All right, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons? Don't make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! 'I don't want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Probably also the Scarlet Devil Mansion from Touhou Luna Nights. Stated to be a perfect replica of the SDM within Touhou Luna Nights, so it’s a HOUSE/WORKPLACE first, somehow. No, just because all the residents could fly (besides Sakuya during the events of this game due to her powers being sealed), and it’s a game within the plot itself, doesn’t mean you can just electrify your employees by putting gigantic live magic wires all over a room. No you can’t have a spikes-everywhere room, No. HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO USE A BIN THAT’S THREE FLOORS AWAY FROM THE VENDING MACHINE, THAT’S GUARDED BY FIVE DIFFERENT DRAGONS AND A GATLING GUN. WHY ARE YOU MAKING EMPLOYEES GUN A COLLEAGUE DOWN FOR A GAME?! No, just because all your Employees (besides Sakuya, Patchouli and Hong Meiling) can respawn, doesn’t mean you can send them after one specific employee endlessly. How am I supposed to explain that gunning down employees with siege weapons and artillery isn’t kosher? Why the hell do you have a moat with no guard rails on the bridge? On the INSIDE? You’re telling me you have Tori gates that do TELEPORTATION, and multiple of them are locked behind massive gauntlets? Why are there multiple rooms where the spikes IS the floor? Why do you a massive cave down here, with NO guard rails? You do realise that a fall from nearly every one of these heights would be at least SIGNIFICANTLY lethal to anyone who isn’t built different, right? With how massive these are, compared to the Australian ones, the winged Lizards with swords are a CLOSE second, also, those spiked helmets are definitely going to cause them neck injuries at one point. Also, why is Sakuya the only one doing any work? (In the mainline games too) Shouldn’t she be actually paid for literally doing ALL the work? Yes, she’s a maid, but last I checked, Maids have paychecks. Why do so many of these doors close so fast that a TOUHOU character has to SLOW DOWN TIME or outright teleport to go through them? If these doors didn’t use the power of glitches to spit you out, wouldn’t those pivots be leg removers? I’m giving you credit, Remillia, some of these doors will stop if it happens to have you in the doorway while it’s closing, but that doesn’t excuse having a running waterfall on the only platform to get across a pit of spikes. Why do you have thousands of ghosts trying to kill one of your employees? I get there’s a lot, but this isn’t anywhere NEAR safe. Why is there a lot of timestopping bunnies? What’s with all of those statues containing the souls of the dead? Why do you have a room with so many chandeliers that actively try to kill anyone that’s too close? Edit: 4 dragons, Not 5.

I've noticed that play testers tend not to look at things that seem extremely apparent unless specifically told by the characters to do it. Edit: For example, in Half Life 2 ep1, you were originally supposed to be spotted by an Advisor on a jumbotron right outside the train depot. If anyone knows how big those are, then it should be obvious you're supposed to be paying attention to it, but no. Somehow, every single player ignored the big ass screen with the big ass slug creature with BRIGHT BLUE EYES, and so they had to resort to trapping the player in a room with a teeny tiny screen and darken said room so the tiny monitor was the only thing you could see. Like, I'm surprised they even knew how to play.

Few hazards you overlooked; The Enrichment Spheres in old Aperture are actually made out of asbestos, Cave says as much. The Excursion Funnels are also not only a fall hazard as they are also made out of 'liquid asbestos' according to promotional materials for the game. It's not only glitches where you have the potential to destroy the universe, there's a part in Old Aperture where Cave mentions undertaking tests which have the potential side effects of wiping out time forwards and backwards if the subject is careless. The Portal Gun canonically contains a black hole, and in the event of system failure within the portal gun it can explode/expand/otherwise create a dangerous area of effect there are specific proceedures that need to be undertaken to gauge a safe evacuation distance. Not only are subjects never informed of this, they have no way to evacuate to a safe distance because there are no exits other than one they cannot access because the device they need to use to access it is currently exploding. The Portal Gun also contains two Aperture Science Miniature Surplus German Stick Grenades which are supposed to be used for 'maintenance' in the event that the Black Hole within the portal gun stops working- subjects are also never informed of this, and while the fact that the Portal Gun contains miniature grenades seems inconsequential in comparison to the fact that it contains a black hole, it's still worth mentioning.

Tbh the whole “black hole in the portal gun” thing falls apart in a realistic scenario since a black hole small enough to not have its own substantial gravity (relative to the earth’s surface that is) would be releasing ungodly amounts of energy in the form or Hawking radiation, assuming it doesn’t just dissipate and explode on the spot (as microscopic black holes do inside particle colliders)

44:08 something I only realized when I finally played the game myself, when I finally heard that dialogue without it being in the middle of a theory, is that that seemingly-contradictory advice actually makes perfect sense if you think about it a little. If aperture equipment makes people prone to hallucinations and delusions, then perceiving the companion cube as speaking to you is probably a common delusion. Glados tells you it cannot speak, because factually it can't speak to you, it's an inanimate object. She then tells you that if you do hear it speak to you, which you may because hallucinations are an expected side effect of testing, that you should disregard its advice, because you're hallucinating and it cannot help you, no matter how much it might like to. This begs the question of whether equipment that frequently induces psychotic symptoms in personnel who otherwise don't experience such symptoms violates any OSHA regulations.

This is a clarification on 31:23 In the Aperture Investment Opportunity promo for the Long Fall Boots it's sort of implied that they have a mechanism so that when launched the user will automatically move in a way that they always block the impact with the boots, which is then followed by Cave Johnson showing a clip of Chell under the caption that she was challenged to land on her head and was unable to. That said, that is in Portal 2, since he calls it a new feature of the Long Fall Boots it's safe to assume that didn't exist for the advanced knee replacements in Portal 1, and either GLaDOS refused to give Chell the long fall boots or she hadn't created them at the time.
@computer_dude
@computer_dude Жыл бұрын
Well, since GLaDOS was dead when Chell got re-captured, the alternative where GLaDOS simply didn't put the Long-Fall Boots on her is quite likely, because Chell was under the autonomous (as in without GLaDOS command) Aperture Science care, and it probably gave it to her.

Bounce off of anything and every at increasingly dangerous speeds, except being a bundle of bones wrapped in meat instead of a sturdy metal cube.... you wouldn't even get the generosity of being accelerated as a whole. if your hand touched a wall, only your hand would be repelled. Appendages would twist, contort, fracture, dislocate with every impact. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if limbs could be completely severed if you bounced just wrong enough while covered. As for why Cave addresses people that might already have gel on them.... if they weren't standing directly in the path of a blob, it's possible someone may only get partially covered. Something to note about the Hazardous acid pools in some of the tests, they weren't actually there originally in the lore, and instead leaked into the chambers over the many years of Aperture science existing That's why GlaDos says touching the floor is punished by death because the acid wasn't there originally so they would just use neurotoxin or Turrets to kill you if you fell. so that means you can Get on Aperture for not performing Maintenance on their facility and thus letting hazardous waste enter certain parts of the chamber

Thank you for the monolouge at 1:42:35. I'm having a rlly hard time lately and I've been thinking about un-aliving myself again, so I re-watched this video mostly to keep myself occupied and distracted, but I kinda forgot about this part of the video from my last time I watched it, so this hit me pretty hard lol (Third time trying to comment this, it seems like a few words are banned either in your comments or on yt in general? I still wanted you to know that this actually made an impact. I hope this one will get posted lol, if not I'll stop trying lmao)

I think P2 takes place somewhere inbetween 20-40 years after P1. Some of the relaxation vaults you pass by in The Courtesy Call have labels on them with expiration dates, meaning that there’s a limited time they can keep a human in stasis. Plus, Aperture at the beginning of P2 looks as dilapidated as Chernobyl at present day.

I'm willing to bet the reason the fans stop when you put a radio in them is that the code for the fans you stop with objects in Half Life 2 was just copied over to Portal without it being changed.

44:29 I think the best case for the Companion Cube is that it is sentient(Glados confirmed it in Portal 2), but only because Aperture thought it was a good idea to make virtually everything sentient, including door mainframes! If it was a human or not? I'm leaning towards no. Glados was the first full human mind upload, and Personality Cores(which very well may have human were it not for their very stereotypical personalities, though that could also be a product of their purpose rather than their origin) came later, and if I remember correctly the Cubes did appear in old Aperture, before Cave died. The Companion Cube could be more than just an Aperture Cube with a heart on it, but... Why? I know Aperture isn't exactly known for having good ideas but still.

What a great video idea! If you want to analyze OSHA violations in another Source game, please consider checking out INFRA, where the whole premise is exploring degrading public facilities like power plants and subways and taking pictures of structural flaws and safety violations.

0:14 The thing about the "Valve making seemingly nothing" thing is that they only announce a project when it's close to being finished. That means that they won't have to openly cancel and disappoint a bunch of people and it keeps hype from going out of control.

While understandable on paper, realistically it's not the most sound business decision to completely ghost your community without explanation, with the only indication that the company still exists being maintenance updates on its existing games.

@@dovahkat9635 They also did not “ghost the community without explanation” there was an explanation they gave paired with Half Life Alyx, it’s the lack of oversight and administration of employees which stems from their pretty laissez-fair approach to game development. With 10 games and ideas being worked on for a couple of months, developer engagement dropping, and then the development stopping to move onto another experiment.

1:38:20 Other things that the emancipation grill might also rid of being crowns, tooth enamel, fillings, and teeth. According to GLaDOS's line in chamber 2 of the first game. Not sure if casually losing those is against OSHA or not, but in my eyes should still be noted.

To be fair to that staircase that breaks in the backrooms of aperture during the escape in the first game, the stairs are clearly eroded, rust, and all around worse for wear. And it's safe to assume that most rooms, especially ones not designated for testers, havent been touched for ages. So basically, if chell wasn't one of the last humans to ever walk in apertures halls, it is safe to assume that the stairs would have been refurbished long before they would have a chance to start eroding to time. Of course, I'm not well versed in OSHA laws, or in how stairs eroded to begin with, so maybe there's still an argument to be made against them
