This is gonna be the closest we are gonna get for a Golden Sun Collection. I'm so happy Nintendo did not forget this IP but seriously Nintendo let Camelot stop making Mario Tennis/Golf and let them Remake or Reboot the Franchise we all love, or make a proper sequel (Golden Sun 4) with the orginal team and this time a proper Ending to the series with no 'Cliffhanger' :D

The good news is Nintendo only has one system, the Switch, so Camelot only had to create one Golf/Tennis game for it. Now that they've done that, plus remind people of the series now that it's on the NSO, I'm expecting a GS Switch game soon.

But before that PORT the DS Dark Dawn game OVER to NSO/Eshop for those that never played it either after all Dark Dawn technically does have several regions from the first 2 games but aren't accessible at all as in Dark Dawn's World map actually shows the Sol Sanctum/Mercury Lighthouse on its world map.

Same here since I REFUSE to have a NSO account or want one so its either that or WAIT Until the 2 games get a PROPER E shop ONLY version or a Physical/E shop REMASTER of the 2 as for Dark Dawn I still own it to play it on my 3DS its a DS game for Dark dawn. But the 3DS still plays DS games but not the GBA only ones.

It's kind of crazy how much love people have for this series. It's definitely niche, but almost everyone that's played this in the past just fell in love with it. And everyone else just looks at us like we're crazy lol. Hopefully with these releases more people will check Golden Sun eyes. And hopefully it'll get Nintendo to take their eyes off of Xenoblade for a second.

Personal opinion: if you compare both GS games f. ex. with the GBA Pokemon games, especially in terms of graphics + animations, you come to realize how much love Camelot put into the Golden Sun series while Game Freak really didn't care that much 😅

These games were so much fun. The graphics were top notch(I miss this style) and the music was fantastic. I can’t wait to replay them. Maybe this time I will be a little less basic and actually customize the djinn vs what I did..Isaac gets earth, Ivan you get wind, Mia gets water, and so on. Still hoping for a proper sequel with the main squad following the original and not a time skip that we got for the ds game.

Thank you for the spoiler free overview! After watching this video I’m thinking I might need to rework my play list order for the year. Yes, I schedule my games for the year (for the most part). As a husband, father (to a couple of rambunctious toddlers), and lawyer, keeping a schedule is the only way I can play through all of the great games available to us.

@@davidvincwhen I worked within a large firm I got use to scheduling out every part of my day as I was working insane hours. Now that I’m at a smaller firm I have found myself with a lot more free time. I continue to schedule out my entire day, after prioritizing family time and work events, I figure out what time I have left for gaming. I then reference a spreadsheet I have that is broken down into games I need to finish, games I haven’t started, and games I might want to replay. Each category is ranked in order of games I am most wanting to play. When I am working on my daily schedule for the week, I pencil in a specific game into my gaming time slots. I set a goal to complete at least one game each month from the first category (games I need to finish) before I start a game from the second or third categories. While my lists consist of mostly jrpgs, I have more causal games on standby (like Super Mario Wonder) should I find myself with a few unexpected minutes to sneak in a little more gaming. With my gaming time limited I am not afraid to drop a game if it is simply not to my liking.

In all seriousness, I have not been able to find a game that scratched the same "class" system as Golden Sun - and I have played a LOT of RPGs of all shapes and sizes and scopes in the last 20 years. The Djinn being equal parts quest goal, battle skill, world skill, *and* what changes your character classes was genius level design.

To me Golden sun was just a proper 32 bit RPG for the console. I dunno why. But til that point our referens of a great looking RPG was Pokémon ruby and sapphire. I still remember seeing moves like Ragnarok or my first summon on the trailers thinking: There is no way this is to the GBA. THESE GAMES still looks great for the console. And the twist and team up of GS2 really is like a core memory for me. Just such a incredible experience. And one I have yet to feel I had the pleasure to experience again in such scale.

The most annoying thing was the password you have to do to transfer everything from the first game to the second one. It has to longest password to this day than any other games. After Pokémon Red and Silver (and the Zelda games on Gameboy, SNES and N64, if you want to count them as JRPGs as I did back then), Golden Sun was my gateway into JRPGs. In a way I suppose I sometimes felt a bit pedestrian for this matter, funny how it's now a 23-year-old classic (though I guess it came to Spain technically in 2002, but I did have my GBA with Mario Kart and was anticipating it as it looked like a portable Final Fantasy, that series my cousin used to play on his PlayStation). I adored the first and experienced a serious case of hype for the sequel in which I couldn't but theorize about what we would get to see in it. The wait felt insanely long back then. I had a friend who couldn't wait and made quite a bit of progress with a Japanese, then untranslated ROM. He even introduced me to Terranigma and Lufia 2, which I also played emulated and also left a lasting impression on me. The anticipation for the sequel was more than warranted. It's insane how much like an odyssey those games felt, and the seafaring aspect of it was great. It's weird how I don't see the comparison with Lufia 2 be brought up as much, as I think it's the closest comparison possible (though of course you can compare them with aspects of games Camelot and ex-Camelot staff made like Shining Force and Alundra). It also has a bit of Terranigma in that its world isn't completely original but based on our world, which may be a let-down for people who prefer original settings, but I really appreciated. It was so great to discover that it was based on an ancient configuration of the tectonic plates of Earth when India was separate from Asia, for example, and to try to draw comparisons with real world places and cultures. It also made me interested in learning a lot more mythology than I know of now, as I have forgotten a lot of it. Truly wonderful games. It's a pity that Dark Dawn felt like such an aftergthought, so small in comparison, with those points of no return that felt so antithetical to what these two games were (when I like a setting so much and it feels cozy, I want to go back wherever I want when I want) and that it didn't get a sequel. I hope this series does eventually come back. If it did, I'd buy whichever console they put it in.

Going through a bit of a classic JRPG phase at the moment as part of a “Video Game Bucket List”. I’m glad what I heard is backed up with content like yours and the video from NintendoLife! My “Bucket List” has too many games that are not readily available on modern consoles and will require emulation, so I’m happy for services like NSO, but naturally I want more! ☺️ Thanks for making this video! 🎉

I remember buying this from Sam's Club of all places. I was really excited to play an RPG on my new GBA, but the fact that I had to (seemingly) press the confirm button four times for each regular-old-attack really put me off; it almost felt like I had to press A mid-swing or I'm part of a stop motion film. And this was when I was young, had all the time in the world, and no fear of RSI from button mashing. I would be open to a remake/QoL-update though, maybe with the sequel combined.

I liked these games although IMO they're just average overall. Never understood why they were so popular ... guess it has to do with nostalgia and being amongst the first truly colored portable JRPGs?

My first real experience in JRPG via the Gameboy Advance. So many memories ! Also, Tank tops are BACK for our pleasure 😂.

Golden SUn2 also has more "Biomes" as in... grass, cliffs, and water landscapes. There's at least 10 that I counted. I learned this when I was sprite ripping. And Golden Sun 1 mainly uses the same cliffs/grass. So GS2 had a lot of landscape variety.

Played them back in the day and were my favorite JRPG’s of all time until I Xenoblade chronicles on the New 3DS. Happened precisely when Satorl Marsh transitioned to night time and I’ll never forget just sitting there staring at the screen and listening to the theme.

I played the first one on an emulator a few years ago and thought it was pretty good. But I was let down when I couldn't find the second one on an emulator. So it left me feeling bitter that I got half (albeit a good half) an experience. I also bought Dark Dawn when it came out, but never got very far. So seeing the the first two get released for NSO had me convinced I was doing a full run of the three. I'm so glad I did. I found a new love for the first one and really the second and third were both amazing as well. It feels like Final Fantasy meets Zelda for me and both of those are two of my favourite gaming franchises. After finishing Dark Dawn, I was feeling so sad that it was all over. But I hope Nintendo sees how many people went crazy when these were announced and they see that RPG's are hot right now, and finally make a Golden Sun 4. My god I need it.

I've replayed them several times since I first got them back during the days of the GBA. I also played the DS sequel and am rather bummed we never got the sequel(s) that it was clearly setting up for.

If only you could disable the annoying text sound effects. That’s the worst thing about Golden Sun. Other than that, amazing game.

I mostly know this game from an enjoyable acapella cover, staring at a box for the DS game to pass time while waiting in a store, and the Smash assist trophy that someone on a certain KZbin channel refers to as "dead franchise man". I strongly dislike that nickname and said someone is a consistent confrontational/trolling streamer whose mockery can apply to Banjo & Kazooie (which he likes) among other complaint(s) that have practically nothing to do with this.

I must be the odd man out here because I recently played all 3 Golden Sun games, yes, including Dark Dawn on the DS. By the end of it, I couldn't stand any of it. I thought it was overrated garbage. Having said that though, I do feel bad for Camelot in that it is clear from the ending of Dark Dawn that they wanted to make a 4th game but were never given the chance.

I thought you were fanboying out these games, David. But judging by these comments & the Metacritic scores, you are not. Kind of raises the question of how these games haven't received much recognition over the years.

The Djinn system mixing which each respective memeber made for some incredible customisation, it an indepth system which to this day still doesnt get enough praise. I would personally now love a full remake but dont for them not to change the combat to much, but a graphic overhual would be amazing as i would love to play it on the big screen.

Golden sun was an interesting series, though I feel the 3rd game was very dumb. Why? Not only do the main characters look exactly like the parents, (they couldn't be assed to think of new designs) the parents send their children on a dangerous journey and do not help them even though the heroes have killed gigantic super dragons multiple times. It is senseless and stupid.

My senior year in HS I had this, KH COM, and Advanced Wars all on my GBA. If that’s not top tier content I don’t know what is

Would love to see this game get a remaster like what they are doing with the Dragon quest HD-re something. I played them and beat all of them. Didn't see any gameplay of the DS sequel Dark Dawn.

I loved those games and I still have the GBA carts. It would be great if they included the Dark Sun game from the DS too.

I wasn't aware of these games until they were announced for Switch's online service (skipped out on the GBA... a time where I wasn't able to play much of anything). They are on my radar, and if I decide to give them a try, I'll probably just get physical copies (loose is fine).

I actually look like Matthew from Golden Sun 3. It was a good game, but the dialogue took forever making the end even worse.
