Golden Sun is in need of a true revival. There is so much more to the world to explore. I also agree with all the ones you put for in this video. As for a game that is need of a full on remake would be Xenosaga, needs to flesh out it's combat, story, and pacing to bring it to a new audience.

LUNAR LUNAR LUNAR! They are so beautiful, charming and lovable games. Such a shame they've never even had a modern port. So many people are missing out. They really should be mentioned in the same breath as FF, DQ, CT of the 16/32-bit eras. And agree w/ everything else on this list. Especially Shining Force. SRPGs are arguably more popular than ever and Shining Force has its one killer app: the exploration, just like you mentioned. It makes the games feel alive, like a real world, with real people and consequences, instead of just a battle grid.

If they had remade any other Lufia game in that style it would have been far better received, but they remade the best game and just made it worse. I still would have been mad if they remade Lufia 1 like that. But Lufia 1 is extremely dated with many problems going for it as well as the fact that the game is mostly just a long series of fetch quests (a huge chunk of the game is just the Alumina fetch quest lol). Nothing of importance happens most of the game, so trimming it back would have been fine (though I would have obviously preferred a more fleshed out remake instead of trimming it back). In Lufia 2, most of the stops are important to the overarching plot, and even those that aren't (like Alunze) help to establish Maxim as a known entity which gets him known to the various nations he meets later.

God, I agree with all of these so much. Phantasy Star 4 was one of the few space jrpgs I completely fell in love with! And breath of fire was always so genius! Like, same Ryu and Nina, different personalities and stories! I mean, in two instead of giving the main character amnesia they just make the rest of the world forget him, what a hook! And the fact that you actually had non human characters really face that fantasy feel. God this video made me nostalgic! Someone remake and continue all this series for the love of god!!!

I really want a Super Mario RPG sequel. Or a real, honest to goodness Chrono Trigger sequel. Other Square games I’d like to see would be a new Parasite Eve or Vagrant Story, which I know are more Action RPG than traditional JRPG, but I still think they deserve a mention.

Another franchise I would like to return is Valkyria Chronicles. We got Valkyria Chronicles 4 back in 2018 and it was super fun but it seems that the franchise is still very niche, and we haven't see anything else about the franchise since then. And it is a shame because Valkyria Chronicles 4 was already trying to bring the series back after a long hiatus.

No marketing from Sega America, release bad action RPG spin-off Valkyria Revolution before VC4 (VR created bad word of mounth), bad release date (with Monster Hunter World in Japan, and with Dragon Quest XI + Octopath Traveler in West), no worldwide release in 2018 ???, no VC2 & VC3 ports / localization (casual: wtf we have VC4 and VC1, but where is VC2&VC3 ?). Many mistakes and bad business decisions from Sega, atleast game was multiplatform. Just, Sega don't care about anything who is not Sonic or Yakuza.

When we talk about series, my top would be Breath of Fire, Grandia, Lunar and OF COURSE SUIKODEN! The Suikoden revival movement is still ongoing, we got a new masterpiece from the original creators but continuing the main series is still a dream. It isn't a series, but a remake/remaster of Xenogears is still what I am really hoping for.

Seeing that shadow heart disappear broke my heart as a kid. After playing final fantasy 10 that game became my favorite. I don't care about the graphics. It's just a unique story that you have never seen an rpg. I know there's a spiritual successor but it will never be the same compared to seeing Yuri in that game.😢😢

Dragon Quarter (Breath of Fire V) is a very unique and visionary game. It was literally ahead of it's time. I understand that many RPG fans would prefer the more traditional BoF IV, but if you give it a chance it has a killer story and challenging mechanics.

Breath of Fire IV is the most beautiful game to me visually and no other game has even come close. Top that with a memorable soundtrack and a story that sticks with you. It's one of my favourite JRPGs of all time and I really hope to see more of the series in the future!

Grandia 1 is an all time favorite, and bof 4 would have been, if it weren’t a bit too easy (and a bit too mini-game oriented) …but I loved the combo system in bof 4. And it was such a pretty game. The sprite animations were so clean

It's so wild to me, looking back, as a kid I felt like Grandia and Breath of Fire were on the same level as Square's series, and if you asked me in the PS2 era if the next console generation would see new entries for those, I would say "Of course!" but here we are nearly two decades out from both receiving a traditional series entry. I admit, when I learned of the first Dragon's Dogma game, which is made by Capcom as well, I was initially excited specifically because I thought it was going to be a new BoF xD

It hurts that Phantasy Star as a franchise is gonna die with PSO2 because it couldn't hold a candle to the replayability of PSO Blue Burst. It was an MMO made by legacy developers that didn't adapt to how the new mmo world. Hoping for some remasters or 2.5d remakes

The Quintet Trilogy: Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma. A sequel to or remake of Terranigma would be so great. We got the ActRaiser remake in 2021, so Square Enix might own the rest of Quintet's library as well.

I forgot Grandia 2 was on the PS2 since I inherited my brother’s Dreamcast. He gave it to me when Sega announced they were getting out of the hardware business. I was actually able to pick up Grandia 2 for $7.99 at EB Games around that time since they were getting rid of their inventory. I think we tend to forget the Grandia series started in Sega Saturn and Dreamcast since the Saturn didn’t do well here and the PS2 just simply buried the Dreamcast.

I remember being shown breath of fire 3 by my dad's friend back in the late 90's he let me borrow it. In my teenage years I saved up so I could buy dragons quarter and I was utterly let down. Grandia is one my favourite RPG's ever, I went from only ever playing phantasy star to grandia and it blew my mind.

There's also a BoF spiritual successor in the works by an Indie team. It's called Tear of Magic, I believe. Would be nice if an indie dev decided to to a spiritual successor to Shining Force (Which I think also ended up becoming a mobile game). There have been a number of really good indie tactical rpg's in the past 15 years, but none that I know of have the same feel as Shining Force with ~15 ally units per battle in a fantasy world with multiple races and varied class promotions without a full on job system like FFT and Fell Seal.

I wouldn't mind a remake of Phantasy Star III, from a team that know what they were doing since it was an arcade team who made that. It also suffered from being released before Final Fantasy IV where dialogue and developed characters were pushed to the forefront. How are we supposed to care about these characters who we have to choose to marry when they've had 2 lines? Shame Rieko Kodama never got to make her Phantasy Star V project before she passed away.

Wild Arms! They had such a unique setting and 4 and 5 had a battle system with tons of potential for 'puzzle bosses' along with 5 having some good tool-using puzzles and platforming. There is a 'successor fangame' coming with Armed Fantasia but it won't be quite the same, lacking the Hex system. An ideal 6th game would dial back the sci-fi/anime cliche trappings of 4/5 but keep their battle system, and return to a fully western setting like 3*, my personal favorite. How can you not like a game that begins with the four main characters pointing guns at each other during a train robbery?

I want to see all of these series revived! IIRC, Phantasy Star 4 had a retail price of $100 when it released in the US, which was around the same time when FF3(6) released for $70. Not having ever had a Sega system, my only exposure to Shining Force was on Game Gear (that six AA battery hog). Grandia Xtreme is a cautionary tale to never have a protagonist that wears underwear on their head. While Lufia 2 was the greatest in the series, the DS remake was my preferred version, especially with the NG+ feature where Maxim and Seline can survive at the end. Breath of Fire IV was peak BoF for me; its art style, more Chinese theme and music felt more immersive than the jazz overtones of BoF3. Fortunately, we have Tears of Magic to look forward to as its spiritual successor. One series that I think needed to be added to this list was Arc the Lad. I enjoyed the collection and Twilight of Spirits. Great character design and I like the non-grid based tactical combat.

Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete deserves a remake or better sequel. There was a Lunar II game, but I never played it or heard anything about it. It would be cool to get a massive game where it either told the story of how the moon was originally terraformed, or where the characters can go back and forth between the moon and Earth (or maybe even explore/terraform more of the solar system. Jupiter's Moons? Yes, please).

I can't believe Sega really isn't doing anything with two of their JRPG franchises. Sega tried to revive Sakura Wars, another of their RPGs. But the reboot failed to revitalize the series. It was pretty good, but it didn't really seem to find an audience. Lufia and look like they have very interesting battle systems. I'd love to see revivals! Breath of Fire definitely needs a new game. It's a Capcom RPG. Capcom is well known for their action games, so them having a turn based game would be a change of pace. I'm actually pretty shocked to see that 2 of these games ended with dungeon crawlers. Why were they popular in the 2000s anyway? Was Diablo that big in Japan?

Sakura Wars never was a JRPG, it is more Visual Novel / Dating Sim with SRPG (older games) or musou combat (PS4 game). Series is still popular in Japan, but unknown in West due to lack of localization of older games, or they were localized to late on dead platform (Sakura Wars 5: So Long My Love was released by NISA in 2010 on PS2 and Wii). Plus VN/Dating Sim is very niche genre in West. PS4 game failed from two reasons: In Japan, it was poorly received due to the complete lack of respect for older games in the series + Sega quietly killed old characters from previous installments (except one). In Dating Sim, the latter is a mortal sin. It is like Sonic The Hedgehog without Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy etc. In the west, mainly due to the badly chosen release date (together with Persona 5 Royal, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake and Trials of Mana Remake) + lack of multiplatform + no english VA + no localization of older games. Not to mention this was first game in series developed not by original creator (Oji Hiroi), original mangaka (Kosuke Fujishima) and original studio (Team Sonic instead of Valkyria Chronicles Team).

Hell, battle system from SW3-5 was even reused and improved in Valkyria Chronicles series, so this is also precursor for VC. The main problem of this franchise was lack of localizations (imagine don't trying localize a game with 500k sales in first week in Japan). Sega just sleep whole PS2 and PS3 era to localize those games in West, when anime and jrpgs in PS2/PS3 era gained popularity (Sega in that era was focused on making mainly crappy Sonic games, like Sonic 06, or Sonic Boom). Now market is oversaturatted.

Sega did not really drop the Phantasy Star titles, they just moved them to the MMO space. PSOnline 1 & 2 for Dreamcast, kind of the same for the Vita, etc... Meaning it lost some of its original charms though like the marriage stuff.

I know I mention Shadow Hearts a lot, but it's actually one series I wouldn't be too thrilled to see again. 1 and 2 told a self-contained story that tied itself up with a beautiful little bow and left no room for a sequel. Even FTNW felt gratuitous. If a new one were released, I'd prefer it had nothing to do with Yuri and the gang whatsoever. Same for Lunar. Breath of Fire, though? Different story.

Sega and Konami have the most abandoned IP's from japanese publishers. Sadly Sega Japan only care about Sonic and Yakuza (and Puyo Puyo + Hatsune Miku in Japan).

My first phantasy star was the 4th one. From the sega collection in the psp. I loved phantasy star so much, Alys was my favorite character. I'd love to see more mischief makers and dark cloud honestly Also are you wearing a hawt dawg man shirt?

Phantasy star was one of the first rpg games I ever played, and will always hold a special place in my gaming heart, and with how well they did with #4, u would love a 5th game

So you want to revive my childhood, lol. I'm all for this. They did make breath of fire 6, but it was a mobile game (yuk) only in Japan. I loved each of these series of games, I especially wish that Breath of Fire would have continued, I believe it was the first RPG series I played and I still have the strategy guide for Breath of Fire 2, though it's falling apart at this point.

Jade cocoon 1.... not 2 1 NEEDS a remake, it was amazing, great story that never got fleshed out fully, fun characters, great rpg gameplay and the soundtrack was cool But yh phantasy star is a godsent pleasure

My top five in no particular order are Suikoden, Ogre Battle (I wouldn't mind a Tactics Ogre revival but Ogre Battle is much higher on my wish list), Wild Arms, Front Mission, and Dark Cloud.

Dark Cloud needs to come back. I would LOVE another Radiata Stories and how about bringing Digital Devil Saga back! Remaster the originals then pop out a new one!
