It makes me SO happy to see FF6 on the list. While I'm not really surprised, it still makes me happy. The fact there is a four part piece of music where there are callbacks to other pieces is either a stroke of genius, or a way to save some space. Either way I think this is Nobuo Uematsu's best work, BY FAR.

I would replace Breath of Fire 2, Terranigma, Dragon Quest 5, Seiken Densetsu 3 and Mario R.P.G with Dark Half, Shin Megami Tensei, Zelda: A link to the Past, Metal Max Returns and Super Metroid. Dragon Quest is the most boring and creatively bankrupt R.P.G. series except maybe Might and Magic, Terranigma is mediocre, Breath of Fire 2 has an excellent beginning but the rest is unexceptional, Mario R.P.G I just find incredibly boring and repetitive and filled with annoying characters and Seiken Denssetsu is great for the first half but eventually turns into a tedious and frustrating boss rush. I love this system, this is the perfect system for R.P.G.s and it would be my favorite retro system if not for the NES.

I really recommend Metal Max, an excellent series that is overlooked because most of it does not have an official translation. Metal Max Returns is a remake of the first game and one of the best. Metal Max 3 and Returns got fan translations recently, I beat them and loved them.

Though there is one thing; I would say Square isn't screwing up Mana right now, I think they're doing pretty good, but in the early-mid 2000s... yeah, that's when they were screwing it up xD Also, Bahamut Lagoon was ported to the DS in Japan, so it got snubbed for localization TWICE. People keep thinking the plot is nothing special but a world being divided into 2 in order to seal off a time compressed world destroying black hole of a void is quite unique story wise and the party mesh is the best in the classic FF games. Bartz and friends mesh so well together and a certain event with the old man still stands as one of my favorite bad ass moments in classic FF (really what is up with FF having bad ass old people? FF4 has Tellah, FF5 has Galuf, FF6 has Cyan)

Im not sure if it was SNES but I remember a game where you catch monsters and they also evolve(one evolution I remember was Btrain(literally looks like a train with eyes). And it also had a story similar to chrono trigger with time travel. I keep searching for lists here in youtube and I cant find it.

I agree with everything you said about ff6 - the game is a lot better if you never equip an esper... which is a failing of the game design, but it's a small dent in an otherwise amazing game.

Could you defeat the cult of Kefka tower like that, though?
@Roanix14 жыл бұрын
@@almightycinder Terra and Celes still have natural magic, umaro can fight in there as well. It's doable, but yeah, it's tougher. Edit: Gogo can be used, too

Great list. I don't think anyone can really argue with it. I finally jailbroke my SNES classic to add the fan translations to is and it works so well. Final Fantasy III (VI) is the reason I bought a SNES and Chrono Trigger was the first game I bought Day 1. =)

Great video with great games. I have some of them. The Mana Collection. Plus some of them are on the ps1. I need to get around to playing them.

Playing Dragon Quest V is like playing a telenovela, the game is full of crazy over the top twists, it's a great game! Chrono Trigger is such a classic, the music, the graphics, the characters, the story, the battle system... Everything is perfect. It's my favorite RPG too.

Wow you've actually played every SNES jrpg ever released? That's incredible. I'll count myself lucky if I ever finish all of the ones released on the Wii and Wii U virtual consoles.

Glad to see good old Bahamut Lagoon getting the love it deserves. :P Also...I dunno how you feel about the Remake of Trials of Mana / SD3, but honestly, after I installed a difficulty boost mod, I feel like it was nearly perfect on my Hawkeye run.

Great list, love your choices! It’s a shame so many of these don’t have easy ways to play them, specifically on the switch.

Number 1 is justified but you did my sweet sweet Final Fantasy 5 dirty! Imo it would take the #1 spot. Great list. My top 10 list would include many of the same titles but just mixed up a bit different. Great vid.

Well... you certainly gave it the credit it deserves. Im just a bit pissy because it didnt get #1 and I wish I could marry that game lol.

Am I the only person in the world whose favorite video game is Breath of Fire 2? I mean, I understand its flaws for why some people won't like it, but for me it's the best.

Where would you rank G.O.D.? It was fan translated only in 2018 or 2019, I think, so not sure if you played through it. I found it pretty interesting too.

@@davidvinc Oh, sorry. You were that. Didn't watch the videos, only noticed them on someone's channel. :-) I only got to the beginning of after the attack. I think the latest thing I did was the zoo. But it's a while since I played. Really enjoyed it as well, but there's so much to play, and also sometimes some work or real life...

1:29 "This is a strange bird. And some american may have never heard of, because well, we got Secret of Evermore, Europe got this sweet child" i'm European and was in junior high school during the SNES years, and I can tell you we had BOTH Terranigma AND Secret of Evermore (And both the games were sold under blister, including their own 60 pages guides to replace the notice! This also happened as well for other games such as Secret of Mana, Illusion of Gaia (renamed of some reason "Illusion of Time" in Europe), Super Metroid, and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest ( renamed "Mystic Quest Legend" in Europe)). Actually the Action RPGs such as the Enix trilogy, the Seiken Dentestu's that came out in the USA, the Actraiser's games were coming out in Europe and doing well. But for some reason Nintendo Europe was very uncertain with the turn by turn RPGs believing they wouldn't succeed in our lands. Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was actually a first attempt in 1994 on the SNES to release a turn by turn RPG and see how the audience would receive it before releasing others. I can't really understand why they were so frightned because on the other hand was releasing almost all of it's most famous RPGs on the Megadrive (Genesis in USA) such as Shining Force or Fantasy Star and the Sega kids were loving them. So we eventually had a release of Breath of Fire II and Lufia II by the end life of the console (Terranigma was also an endlife release btw) while Nintendo of Europe was realizing that people in Europe were playing turn by turn Rpgs on the new coming Playstation and Sega Saturn... Unfortunatetly we never had games such as FFIV, FFVI, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG... But that's when the import market from the USA came in handy in the local video game shops, with the exclusive AD-29 game adaptator wihc allowed thousands of European kids (including me) back then to play all these games, and many others alongside! (I actually owned all the previous mentionned games way before Terranigma or Lufia II!)

Hey David you ever play any of the PCE games. There are some amazing gems on their including Exile and the never released XAK series that consists of 4 games with gorgious art, amazing sound tracks and an excellent story. One of which was actually released on the SFC but pails in comparison to the PCE versions.

Star Ocean always left out :(... Saddens me, cause Ratix is still one of my fav characters of all time, I don't think I've ever felt connected to a character as I have to Ratix (Maybe Dart from LoD). The story blew my mind, and the combat felt fresh and compelling, no to mention the skills system!!!. Ill always be the biggest Star Ocean fan ever lol Tri-Ace are my heroes.

Yo my man… that snes translated version of the first star ocean is so much more fun than the remake on psp that I played first yes they made it like star ocean 2 and can run around and the snes japan original you barely move but it feels so authentic to the remakes of 1
