Best fly tyer on the planet - hats off to the man - makes tying these small intricate micro patterns look easy when in fact they are the most difficult

Really like that technique for tying foam extended bodies. I’m sure you could use different colors and sizes to replicate your local hoppers or crickets. Nicely done, Davie.

Great little midge mate. That would be a killer for bluegills and crappies over here. Thanks for sharing with us all my friend. Have a good day and keep safe. Best Regards, Ken🐟🐜

The pattern is a dark brown dear hair head trimmed like a grass hopper head .with some dear hair on each side as for legs .I tyed some brown Rafia a dark brown onto the hook .a size 12 ,14 or 16 .I tyed some dark brown seals for as a thick body .I pulled over the Rafia as a wing cases .I then used clear nail polish on the Rafia .it gave the wing case the perfect shine of a beetle wing case .I used this pattern for 15 years every week end .I swear I never did not catch a fish best day 33 worst 2 .I'm talking rivers that were flogged to death .I didn't believe there were fish in there .it is the only fly I tied that was my own pattern .I tyed 10 dozen and I still use it on all rivers for trout rainbow and brown .I can send a picture as it looks so ugly but it doesn't catch fishermen it catches fish .always released

Nice fishing fly! Tying those extended bodies make my pointer finger sore😜 Im sure you know about that. I sand down the sharp point on needle. It helps. Stay well. Cheers!

Such a tiny work of art! If I manage too turn out one that looks like this I'll not feed it to a trout. It'll be framed in a lighted box in my den. Cheers,

If I tie these patterns, it will take me several tries to get the correct dimensions and appearance like the template. The first then mostly look like they are prehistoric creatures that have escaped their time window. But I'm not giving up. I have now also understood that such strange first attempts (apart from the hook) should be thrown straight away, because I will never use them for fly fishing anyway. ATB from Central Switzerland.
