Tied up a few after watching, had fantastic success with them on my club water, just skate lovely and the trout were battering them 👍

That made me smile. Thought back to the days when I would "barrow" my Mom's White Rain hair spray to stiffen the hackles and then barrow my Dad's lighter fluid and some canning wax to make floatant. Thank you.

Great technique. I will have to add some to my box. Thanks for sharing, Mr McPhail.

That's how my early dry flies looked because I couldn't afford decent feathers. I'd sometimes trim the off at the bottom.

👍🏻👍🏻 Somehow, this reminds me of the old Neversink "Skater" flies.

Hi Davie, thanks for posting this. I would love to try and tie up a few to use up some of the larger hackles on my capes, but could you suggest a manufacturer of this type of upturned dry fly hook? Kamasan do a lightweight one with a short shank but the only other manufacturer I can find [Partridge] appear to have discontinued their's . Any suggestions please?

Sorry Peter about the delay in getting back to you.. The up eyed hooks I have are quite old as the company that made them are no longer in business, the Kamasan would be fine and easier to find if you want to tye these patterns though I am happy to tye them on a down eyed hook as they will work just as well...I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie

Beautiful. Davie where can I get up eye dry fly hooks from these days. Partridge used to do them but don't seem to be able to get them anywhere?

Partridge still makes them . . . they're called a Stinger . . . a short salmon fly hook.

Nice fly! Nice to see a fly without specific hackle to hook size. Thanks Davie!
