Heavy incessant rain Davie so can't get out salmon fishing so watched your great video. Lovely fly - you are an absolute artist. I'll be fishing this on a slow hover when it warms up a bit. Best Phil

I enjoy watching your precision when you tie. You don't rush any steps and everything is uniform and proportioned well. Nicely done and thanks for the pattern.

These are great looking damsels, the rainbows love them. i'v had fish come short on a few long tailed marabou flies but rarely on these in fact they are usually half way down the fishes throat, great tying as always. Thanks again, All the best.

Hi Davie, I recently made up a black woolie bugger using elements of this fly to fish for Tilapia here in Queensland Australia. They're a noxious species here bit great sport on fly gear. I had immediate success on the fly with the flash element included! Cheers so much for the inspiration! Regards Colin
@WATTSROBIN5 жыл бұрын
hey Colin. Where about in Queensland? I'm in Mackay and there is Tilapia in the local water systems. I've been planning having a cast for them but wasn't sure if they would take a fly. People are catching them on worms and bread.

Hi Dave. Thanks for great video. I'm new to tying fly and I'm not sure if I purchased the right hooks... I got all products you are using on this video and done my first fly ( not bad;))) but I got feeling your hook is longer then mine.. my question is that all size 10 hooks are the same or is some different type I should look at? Can you give me the right direction? Maybe I'm wrong and just video illusion. Thanks 😁👍
@DavieMcPhail3 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, Sorry about the delay in getting back to you, I have attached a link to the hook that would be ideal for this fly for you to see. www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-hooks/kamasan-b830-trout-classic-lure-long~296.html It's great to hear that my videos are helping you get started and thank you for the kind words... I made a comment on one of your "Humongous Wooly Bugger" videos that I'm going to say here. I assume that you can use various colors for this one as well? Here in the States, our Damsels area lot softer, more of olive drab, than yours. Also, our Damsels are more of a baby blue at the adult stage again here in the Western States. But you are patterning for the larval stage if I read right? Great fly! Going to make some of these for my reservoirs & lakes I fish. THANKS!

Great Tie,as a matter of interest I notice that you wax the thread,what is the advantage of waxing threads,especially if they are already waxed when purchased.
@DavieMcPhail7 жыл бұрын
Hi J J, Waxing your thread will give you far more grip and it will also strengthen the thread and make it less likely to break...Just the once through the thread is enough as you can over do it and as you said most threads are waxed but not enough. When tying a hackle on and a wing is the time I would mostly use wax but as well in this fly the marabou tail...I'm glad you liked the fly... All the very best Davie.....

You'll get short strikes on that one. Tail is too long.....
@DavieMcPhail7 жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas, It's always good to have a good length in the tail as you can always reduce it if you find the fish coming short, though I've found this length of tail works really well when I worked at a fishery and this came as a standard length..I appreciate your honesty and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year... All the very best Davie
@TKBeckett7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply and holiday wishes. I really enjoy your work. Your patterns are markedly different than those we use over on this side of the pond, so I can take inspiration from them in my own tying. The tail length probably does depend on the fishery and the size of the fish. When I tied longer tails (they LOOK much better!), I got consistent short takes on a medium sized stream here in PA. The marabou trims really easily and I was able to modify length streamside. My tails are about 1/3-1/2 body length.
@phoult377 жыл бұрын
If you're getting short strikes, the fish aren't big enough to be caught ;)
