How to Install GIMPainter in GIMP 2.10 | 95 Free Pro Brushes

Recently, SenlinOS introduced the GIMPainter brush set on GitHub - a free brush pack with 95 professional brushes to improve the painting experience in GIMP. These brushes are totally free and come with a variety of brush presets and brush dynamics. If you're a digital artist who loves painting in GIMP, you'll love this new brush pack!
This is a third-party brush pack, so download at your own risk, though the GIMP team shared this link on their official GIMP Twitter page (which leads me to believe the download is safe).

lmao I've seen this video and have downloaded the brushes sometime ago and all is fine. then today, I have to get back to this because the newly downloaded tool presets and brushes were missing. then it occured that i just changed the path to the brushes and tool presets folders lol. Mike, thank you for sharing. I was able to follow your instructions to the T installing GIMP 2.10.20 from GitHub. Going into the Preference to add the files for brushes, dynamics, and tool presets, there is no red button to turn green. However, the brushes are installed. Thanks Alot!!

So I've installed the brushes into various folders within the Brush folder. When I'm in Gimp (in the brushes dialog), I switch from folder to folder and there's a lag, but Gimp only freezes when I'm viewing the dialog as a Grid. It works fine when I'm viewing it as a List. Since I prefer the Grid layout, how do I fix the lagging/freezing problem when I switch between brush folders? Thanks!

Hmm, my GIMP looks a bit different (Ver 2.10) the left toolbar is very small and i dont have the Tool Options beneath the new SLOS brushes.. i dont know what to do :(

Thank kwame - I would say what drive and folder on your computer is the most reliable and permanent (i.e. not an external drive), and has sufficient disk space. Ultimately you can add it wherever you want.

Why do not use Linux Fedora 64 bit? It is best distribution for using Gimp and Inkscape. God bless you and your tutorials about GIMP :)

I downloaded GIMP 2.10.30 a couple of weeks ago. Not a good experience. It is slow and crashes a lot. There are no additional folders listed when I open the folders file. Help. And while I'm at it, is there any way to have the circle around the brush show up better? I have to strain to see it. Thank you for your help. I got it. Clicked on the plus sign next to folder. But I still need help with the size indicator for the brush. It has to be on a dark background for me to see it.

I have a problem. I reinstalled windows and installed the latest version of gimp. I follow the tutorial, but the brush icons like in the video do not display. Only some black and white and it is not intuitive. Is anyone able to help me?

Please instruct. I am trying to make a brush from a sketched of a bee character for my children’s book. I want to remove the background where just the bee is seen. I tried to go to image menu-mode-then gray scale. My next step was layer-add alpha channel. The white background still remained. I have added the sketch so you can visualize better what I am writing about. I am not creating the image through gimp. I sketch the bee on a sketch pad, take a picture of it and download the picture on my computer where I open it in gimp.

hey! i work exclusively on gimp, and i love doing line art but even with smooth at 100 and weight at 400 the lines get a little wobbly and increasing the weight doesnt really help, do you have any advice on how to exagerate the smoothness of the lines? :)

There’s a “smooth stroke” checkbox in the Tool Options - it corrects natural jitteriness cause by hand movements with a mouse.

@@DaviesMediaDesign yeah as i said i already use that, but sometimes it just isnt enough, specially when doin curves,they are wobbly, so i either draw them on path tool or draw them with a really fast motion (and its ctrl+z repeating over and over, it s hard), but i ve seen how people draw on procreate and that feature is exagerated, that s what i m looking for :(

Unfortunately, the zip file is not downloadable as zip file. It comes as google chrome file that takes back online on chrome.

Are you painting on a layer that has a blend mode set to something other than "normal?" Or is the blend mode in your Tool Options set to something other than "normal?"

I figured it out. At least the folder part. Click on the + sign on the very left. Then scroll down and there they are. Haven't gotten any further yet. That was so exhausting 😅

I was considering your course but when i discovered that none of your directions actually work. The plugins cannot be installed in linux ulyssa to the plugins folder. they cannot be extracted even as root, they cannot be copied and pasted. I realised that it would be pointless. So tired of instructions that don't effing work!

Great tutorial but why on earth would you demo these brushes with a mouse? It’s not convincing me that these are pro brushes to then go through with the lengthy installation.

Pardon the intrusion, but it seems to me these brushes are mere "image stamping tools", in particular for the textured brushes. So you have a sponge, or a square with holes that you drag along a screen to produce finally a thick line? See it doesn't fulfill the needs of a digital artist. I mean, compare those to brushes in Krita. In Krita the brushes have actual stokes. Each bit of stroke connects to the next. Uniform round brushes work okay, but in that case there's no need to add new brushes. I hope my rant gets through!

Hey there. That's how all raster brushes work. Krita's brushes do the same. Krita probably has less spacing by default so it's harder to notice

Thanks for the tut. Your downloads folder is a mess! I can't believe you added the downloaded gimp folder to the gimp without first moving the folder to a better location. Shame. And what about Linux? Windows and Mac, no Linux! Pff.
