DaVinci Resolve - Problems putting transitions into your timeline?

One of the most requested #DaVinciResolve videos. #Transitions can sometimes give us problems when we're editing #KZbin or other videos. We go through the cause of these problems, and of course the solutions that work.
All clips taken from the excellent pexels.com - where I grab most of my clips from! Give them a visit if you need excellent B-roll clips for your own vidoes!

I have been using Davinci resolve for more than a year or so. But still this software does not fail to come up with new annoyances on regular basis. Your video helped though, but I wish this should have been easier and more intuitive in Davinci resolve. Unfortunately, I can not afford Premium Pro or other better software so I have to stick with Resolve

Davinci is easily the best editing software in my opinion, as an ex-Premiere Pro user, Premiere gave me headache after headache after headache.

My Davinci just let me drag n drop over the right clip, i haven´t the choice of dragging the cross dissolve over the two clips equaly on both sides, what am i doing wrong?

that might be a case that one of the clips doesn't have enough frames to do the dissolve - so there not enough frames before / after the cut to mix into the other clip

Excellent tutorial, it was a pain in my bud to get this right... thank you, uve just solved the problem. So my next problem is when i bring my cursor to highlight the transition for changing the time, the timeline turns dark, how to fixed this problem ???? is there somebody who have this same issue ????? please help !!!!

I recently watched your lightworks video from 2 years ago, I have problems with my transitions but not what you were talking about... I can put them in easily but they glitch out when I play the video to make everything works, it kinda pauses the clip, skips the transition then plays the next clip... any ideas what could be the problem??

This actually sounds like a problem with your computer / laptop graphics card and the clips that you're using. I know this happens on my laptop when I try to edit. You can use something called clip proxies which are like lower quality versions of your clips. Once you finish editing you can export your movie and it will use your high quality clips to make the finished movie

Thanks! I use a Rode Podcaster mic, which does into an audio interface. I then apply EQ, compression and some other effects.

I’m the worlds biggest Blender fan. It’s brilliant. But they kind of killed the game engine so I’ve moved onto Godot for that. I wouldn’t really use it as a video editor (although you can). For 3D tracking and composting it’s brilliant. You can do stuff like that in Adobe After Effects, but Blender lets you do serious Hollywood style CGI. Check out Ian Huberts KZbin channel.

Hey - for the first question - I don't share any content on any social media at all. Maybe I should but I don't really get time to be honest. For the second question, the biggest thing to remember is DaVinci needs a decent GPU - so a laptop with a simple GPU won't work.

It almost always is because you don't have enough frames in both clips to dissolve together.

seems to be a mistake of DVR: I mean it should be a choice to put transitions automatically without first trimming the clips manually (trim automatically)...really time-consuming workflow ...

actually, it's normal in all editors - just some will cut the clip for you without you realising. What video software will assume is that you will always start rolling the camera before you shout "action" and then wait a few moments until you call "cut". That way you have your overlap sections already built in. But if like normal people (me included) you end up editing stuff that other people have filmed, you've run into this kind of problem a lot.
