I edited gameplay footage that was captured in Nvidia Capture (in 1440 because I have a AW2721D) i was exporting various ways in a lazy attempt to see what looked best w/o doing any color grading and realized i was capable of getting more cinematic contrast in black level when exporting in DNxHR HQX 10-bit. I appreciate you explaining this process. PC: Windows 10 I9 9900k RTX2080 16G ram/2 m.2 SSD 2T/ SSD 4T Interface: Avid Eleven Rack

By Nvidia Capture you mean Shadowplay? Are you sure it recorded HDR? Cause last time I checked, its output was h264 8 bit, rec.601, so not HDR.

Why do you believe a separate HDR monitor is required? If you use something like a 1600 nits Pro Display XDR, any reason you couldn’t get an accurate preview with the single monitor?

I was suffering to edit HDR videos for past two years. Getting discouraging results, saving money for ultrastudio, OLED TV and new house to put it all together :) It appears that any MacBook Pro M series can do HDR work. I also checked with my friend on his m2 air with non XDR screen, and it still show descent colors although can't pull 1000nits. So far I am able to edit using PA32UC as a desktop and internal XDR 14inch as a viewer. Not a Hollywood, but colors visually matching to what KZbin playing on the latest HDR capable HDR phones. I am still looking for a good monitor. Tried to use PA32UC over Ultrastudio Mini, that one was not enough. Indeed PA32UCX is better, but I never had a chance to test it.

Hi there . Thanks for the video. Big thumbs up . I am new to HDR and would like to ask a few questions. I would like to share my PC specs first. Monitor : Asus ProArt 32UCG Processor:AMD Threadripper 3970X RAM 128GB Graphics Card : Asus rog Strix 3090 Operating system: Windows 10 So I would I like to know wether I need the Blackmagic Playback unit to Edit HDR videos or is my Graphics card ie) RTX 3090 enough as my graphics card specs say that it can capture and playback 8K HDR. I am a property photographer and have several 6K and 8K cameras. So if I still need a Playback card which one do you recommend for editing 8K HDR videos. I am looking for the above Blackmagic Design Ultra Studio 4K mini or the DeckLink 8K pro. If I use DeckLink 8K pro how would I connect it to my HDR monitor as the DeckLink 8K pro doesn't have HDMI output? Thanks for reading this patiently and I will be awaiting your response
@LoveWhatYouDo2 жыл бұрын
I think that you would still need an output card. If your monitor is strictly hdmi, the less expensive Blackmagic solution would work. I’ve done 8k hdr with it no problem. That being said, I would contact Blackmagic support just to double check that everything I am telling you is accurate.

Hey, i dont understand why the LUT for braw? What that LUT do? Is that how the HDR Origami LUTs should be applied, over another LUT? You could have set the input color space and gama as blackmagic raw and the timeline and output color space to Rec2020 1000 niti limited to P3 D65 and then to apply just the Origami LUT, no? I dont know how those LUTs are made to work.

Rather don’t use a lut. Leave colour management on auto. If you are going to use a lut rather put it in a group post clip node (so it’s at the end of your node tree).

Does handbrake work with the export file with all the HDR meta data? Id like to cut down on file size if im uploading to youtube.
@ArcanePath3602 жыл бұрын
I followed along to the letter, except in Resolve it says "use HDR meta data" not "HDR Over HDMI". I also don't have that Black Magic box. Do I really need that? I am on a HDR TV and set Windows 10 to HDR mode, but Davinci doesn't seem to be displaying HDR content. I outputted a HDR file anyway, which VLC seemed to really struggle with. I'm now uploading to YT anyway to see what the result is like, but my file is 2gb in size for about 30 seconds??! Surely there's a better codec for HDR?
@LoveWhatYouDo2 жыл бұрын
I believe that you would need the output box to correctly feed hdr to a monitor and see what you are doing. I agree that the file sizes are big. You could experiment with other file types, but that’s my method.
@ArcanePath3602 жыл бұрын
@@LoveWhatYouDo Thanks. It turned out my file was uploaded to YT in HDR, so it retained the data, however the grading was bad since I didn't know what I was doing, despite using my 4k HDR TV to try and grade. But 2gb for a 26 second clip is just killing it for me. I will likely not bother with HDR if this is what it costs
