I remember stopping there on my drive to San Diego. Impressive little dam. Admired the 230-kV Take-off Structure and the external generating units housed to the right of the transmission structure and autotransformers. Saw the Parker-Davis and Davis-Meade 230-kV interconnections on rotated base bridge-type towers. Love that style of lattice tower design.

In 1968 the roads in Riviera were not paved and there were no stop signs back then the old marina was still very active with gas on the water to fill your boat and it was free to launch your boat people used to park there vehicles on the beach the gnat population was unbelievable and the sky would fill with bats every night there was also a large population of huge monitor lizards everywhere that lived in large dirt mounds all residents at that time were mobile homes there were no residents on the laughlin side and only the Riverside casino and a couple of little tiny casinos back then when night came it was very dark due to the lack of street lights even back then people did not drink the tap water a lot of people would go to the dam and get water the only way to laughlin from Bullhead was across the dam it was not a short drive so most people took the free boat ride across the buffet was 1.99 all you could eat you could smoke in the buildings and gas was 38 cents per gallon
