Thank you for this video. I was looking for a solution for how to mount my anemometer to my chimney because it is the only way to get unobstructed wind readings in my neighborhood. Do you think PVC pipe would be sturdy enough for the anemometer?
@HoosierWeather3 жыл бұрын
My preference would metal. I too considered PVC (either sch40 or sch80), but over time that would more than likely get a bend to it.
@KF5AIB3 жыл бұрын
@@HoosierWeather Thank you! I switched from PVC sch40 over to a metal conduit pipe. My nerves are now settles about the potential of the PVC snapping in a high wind event.

Hello; thanks for sharing. Normally, to enable the solar panels to absorb enough sunlight, it has to be mounted to face SOUTH. Now my question; How can this be done simply when on the field?
@HoosierWeather2 жыл бұрын
For the solar panel mounting, it doesn't have to be an exact science. You just want to get it in the correct general direction so that it receives the most sunlight possible, but I'll admit that I used a compass to align mine.
@ernierader93143 жыл бұрын
Does it matter which way the anemometer's arm is pointed when it's mounted? I ask because I want to mount my sensors on a stationary vehicle as I live full-time in my big RV, and travel all the time. I understand the setting of the solar panel's direction to take advantage of the sun's rays as much as possible, but I'm not clear on whether this placement will affect the anemometer's readings if that arm is pointed in the wrong direction.
@HoosierWeather3 жыл бұрын
Good Evening Ernie. When installing the anemometer, it should point due north. If for some reason it is not, in both the WeatherLink Desktop software and WeatherLink Live, you can set an offset value to correct for this.
@theodoremayah4442 жыл бұрын
@@HoosierWeather This aspect of pointing due north is another concern for me, How can this be archived, how do you simply obtain the due north direction.

Live data is missing some properties like temp, hum etc current observation data in vantage pro 2 wireless console after data logger firmware update. Is there any way to revert back to 1.1.1
@HoosierWeather2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, reverting console firmware is something I have not tried. That might be a call to Davis Support.

Are you concerned about mounting above the chimney? Will this affect readings?
@HoosierWeather3 жыл бұрын
Not really. I don't use the fireplace much and it clears the top of it by several feet. I would have liked to put it somewhere else, but my mounting options, in places in which I wasn't risking death, were limited. :)

What keeps rain from going down into the pipe and freezing and swelling and rusting over time??
@HoosierWeather3 жыл бұрын
There is a risk that this could happen. I did not drill any holes below ground level (except for the lag bolts) for water to drain, but the bottom opening of the hole is in soil and not concrete. This should allow any water that has collected in the pole to drain. It is something to consider, but I will probably replace the pole when the time comes for a new station. It is probably worth considering plugging that hole, if for no other reason, to keep wasps and other bugs out. Thanks for the comment and thank you for watching!

Hi i have an issue, the wind speed reading is not showing , its showing zero though the wind direction is showing correct. Please help!
@HoosierWeather2 жыл бұрын
It is curious that the wind direction is reading but the wind speed is not. I am assuming the cups are spinning, is it possible the set screw has loosened? My next thought would be the cable. Do you have another straight through cable to try?

Hello, my only option is to put weather station on top of the building... height is about 25 meters (80ft) is that very bad or good?
@gorang5164 жыл бұрын
Can you please answer me?
@HoosierWeather4 жыл бұрын
My apologies for the delay, it has been busy. My first thought is that 80ft is not good. However, I have seen units mounted on rooftops. Davis recommendations specifically say "You can also mount the sensor suite on the roof, between 5’ (1.5 m) and 7’ (2.1 m) above the roof surface." Additional information can be found here. www.davisinstruments.com/resource/what-is-the-best-height-at-which-to-install-my-weather-station/ www.davisinstruments.com/product_documents/weather/manuals/07395-262_IM_06357.pdf

Davis recommends 6 feet above the ground for the temperature and humidity sensors to work accurately.

Hi there, can tou tell me the height of the ISS (excluding the anemometer)? From bottom of radiation shield to the tip of the UV sensor?
@HoosierWeather4 жыл бұрын
Just the ISS itself is ~20.5", just about even with the rain collector. The spikes on the rain collector, depending on how much you push them down in to their holder, stick up about the collector about 3".
