And this is where it really started for Davis/White (the first of 6 national titles, 2 World Championships, Olympics silver medal, 5 Grand Prix Final golds, innumerable brilliant programs); this is the first of their programs I saw & was immediately a fan. As Sandra Bezcic said during 2014 Nationals (to paraphrase), 'the combination of Meryl's exotic mystery and Charlie's exciting flair' meshing together beautifully are what make this couple so unique and special. (Yes, I went back and watched their earlier "Lennon" and "Polovetsian Dances" programs, but "Samson & Delilah" was what caught my attention and gave me goosebumps)....I didn't think they could improve on it, but "Notre Dame de Paris", "My Fair Lady", "Scheherazade" were/are breathtaking, as is their current ex program, "Fade Into You". Just outstanding! Unique duo, programs I will always remember, classy people!

lauramartha3 I think it’s also more than just friendship these two share. They have the benefit of intimacy (not sexual) in their friendship having known and skating together since they were 9 or so. It takes years for ice dancers and pairs to develop that level of proficiency.

A masterpiece. Her soft yellow costume and he in warm maroon velvet. The music, the athletic skill...all silky smooth. I have watched this time after time and it never looses it's appeal.

+Steve jarvis S&D is my favorite program and this is my favorite version. I watch it every night before bed. And not everyone can pull off yellow but Meryl does it beautifully.

Davis has always shown her ballet gracefulness, but this skate shows White is graceful and masculine and strong all at the same time. They are beautiful dancing on the ice together.

This is still my all-time favorite program of Meryl Davis & Charlie White, closely followed by "Notre Dame de Paris" (Grand Prix Final version, 2012) and then "Die Fledermaus". But "Samson & Delilah" is truly a masterpiece: gorgeous music, wonderful choreography, and complicated & passionate skating.

There's some so special about D/W that sets them apart from any other team - past and present!!!! They are so innovative and interpret any genre of music beautifully. They didn't stick to one type of program because it worked for them, but rather taking the risks and trying new things. Meryl and Charlie are the best ice dancers EVER in my opinion.

That's my favorite part too! Some V/M fans said that Charlie and Meryl don't have any chemistry and I suggested they watch this program. If they don't have chemistry, I don't know who does. LOVE this!

Each and every program that Meryl and Charlie have brought us has been unique in its own way. They always pushed the envelope and tried different genres of music. Samson and Delilah was a masterpiece just like their Indian program, Notre Dame de Paris and Scheheraze. I'm not taking away from their other programs, but these were stand-outs. Congrats to not only the best US ice dance team, but the BEST ice dance team.... Meryl and Charlie..... Olympic Gold Medalists and well deserved.........best of luck to you in the future...

I haven't been this sad about a favorite of mine leaving competition since Michelle... the rink at Nationals will seem empty without Meryl and Charlie. But as you said, what an outstanding body of work they left for us to enjoy.

Yes that was an amazing program. They won the first ever World Championship for the USA which in itself is hard to believe.. It was passionate, powerful yet soft and graceful at the same time. The twizzles were mind blowing speed. I'm very sad as well that they won't be competing, but I totally understand their choice to retire. They go out on top which is where they should be. So grateful for You Tube :))

Who would have thought that only 5 years later Meryl and Charlie would be Olympic Champs!!! Miss them competing so much. With the experience they gained in ballroom dance, I think their program, whatever it might have been, would be #1 and for 2018 Olympics as well.

+Michael q Yeah it is definitely being sung in Italian and not the original French. Also it is up the octave because it is a "soprano" singing.

Both Norman and Callas have the ability to "darken their sound" Norman in particular sang roles from contralto to dramatic soprano range. Sopranos singing this sorta changes the original intent of the music and doesn't really bring anything nuance to it.

I watch this from eight years ago, and I wonder why it is that many people consider Virtue and Moir to be better. Even here I think Meryl and Charlie were better. Supposedly their competition days are over, but I hope that they can and will continue to skate together, as Torvill and Dean have through the years.
