Anuradhapura is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, famous for its well-preserved ruins of an ancient Sinhala civilization. As part of north exploration, I had to experience the first capital city on my own and share the experiences.

The sad incident is happened in Anuradapuraya was that they did not allowed isurumuniya museum to be videoed . At least foreign tourists should be allowed to do videos . Tourists Board ,Department of Archeology should give permission for this . Thailand attracts tourists with things like this.

This is one of the first Buddhist monasteries built in Sri lanka. It was built by King Devanampiya Thissa in 3rd century BC.According to the great Chronicle Mahavansa, this temple was offered to 500 newly ordained Buddhist monks. These 500 were from rich royal families, So this temple was know as Isuru (wealth) muni (saints) meaning temple of wealthy saints. Isurumuni was also called " Issara samanarama."(temple of monks from wealthy families). Near this temple there is another ancient monastery called " Wessagiri ". Here there were monks from merchant (vaishya) families .That's why it was named as Wessa (vaishya) + Giriya(mountain) meaning temple in the mountain of Buddhist monks from merchant families.

Brilliant video Davud. Anurathapura is one of the longest continuously existing cities in the world- from 437 BC to 1000 AD(i am not sure). The King organised the city with a Greek quarter and also established a free health service for animals and humans. It has the oldest recorded hospital in the universe.

Davud, brother, happy to see you made it to Anuradhapura and Isurumuniya. But you came so close and missed the Ranmasu Uyana and the Stargate in it. To get to Ranmasu Uyana you need to come out of the Isurumuniya complex turn left and wallk through and past the car park. As you go further up you get a path to your left over a ditch. Keep going and in a few minutes you will be in the massive Ranmasu Uyana complex. Walk around and you will find the Stargate carved into a slanted granite stone with small iron fence near it. If you are lucky there will be a guide who sits near the stargate. Highly recommend you engage him in a chat and get his perspective on the history there. I found it highly entertaining. He will also recommend you do a few minutes of meditation near the stargate and ask how you feel before explaining more on it. You can give him a small donation for his efforts. I think I gave about 500, but it depends on how much you feel like giving. When you are visiting these ancient ruins in Anu it might be best to invest in a guide on site else you will not really know or appreciate the historical context, which makes a big difference. Davud I’m sure likes to explore on his own and NOT be guided by others. That way he can speak with people he meets while walking get to know the locals, make friends. He can ask people for directions if needed and not be controlled by guides who have an agenda.

Brother I think you did a good help to that innocent couple from the small juice bar. Btw you missed a very special thing when you visit Isurumuniya. You could take right to the main entrance and when you pass the public toilet area, there is the king's park. In the middle of that park there is a big rock with an ancient carving of a galaxy circle. Some archeologists believe that it maybe a sign of a ancient space gate
