Long story short...my Father met him in 69 or maybe it was 1970. Davy invited my Dad to sit down and they had a 2 hour conversation. Davy pulled a stone vase off of a shelf and autographed the bottom and sent it home with my Dad for me. A few weeks later. a 8x10 envelope arrived and it had 11 beautiful 8x10 autographed pictures in it. Davy had even addressed the envelope himself and spent the additional postage for Air Mail. To this day my now 91 year old Father says he still thinks about that meeting and how gracious Davy was. When Davy passed, I shared the whole story with Davy’s daughters and I received a lengthy email letter back from Annabel💕

Agree with Spooky. Davy was born for the stage, show business was his calling. This man was an excellent actor, singer, comedian, and yes, musician. Peter taught him bass and drums. He was a better drummer than Micky. He loved his fans and would autograph for anyone, anywhere. He was quite cheeky, and that was part of his endless charm. How I miss him.

No way in hell was he a better drummer than Micky.
@melissacooper4482
@melissacooper4482 5 жыл бұрын
@@scottericksonmusic when The Monkees first started out on their TV show Micky didn't know how to play the drums. Micky eventually learned to play the drums. Davy already knew how but the producers felt that he wouldn't be seen at the drum set since he was so short. That was why Micky ended up at the drums and Davy as the frontman.
@scottericksonmusic
@scottericksonmusic 5 жыл бұрын
@@melissacooper4482 The only thing you're right about, was that Micky didn't know how to play drums when the Monkees were cast. Neither did Davy. Micky was chosen as the drummer (and this has been documented in books and interviews) when Bert Schneider and Bob Rafelson lined the guys up and said "Whoever wants to be the drummer, step forward." and Davy, Mike & Peter all took a step backwards. Micky did learn to play the drums (he was a guitar player for years before the Monkees). Davy did learn how to play bass and drums, becoming a "utility guy", covering parts when Peter was on keyboards (or banjo) or when Micky was out front. Prior to the Monkees, Davy had no instrumental ability at all. He was strictly a song and dance man. In any case, I stand by my original statement. There's no way in hell Davy was a better drummer than Micky.

@scott. But Davy was a better drummer! Davy had rhythm and did not lose beats and kept up- micky lost beats and could not keep tempo. Sorry, but that is the truth.

Micky's been my favorite Monkee pretty much since I became a fan, but there's simply no denying what a dynamic performer Davy was. I saw him with Micky and Peter in Pittsburgh about 8 months before he died, and there he was, busting out the moves to Daddy's Song like it was nothing! Sometimes it really is hard to believe he's gone.
