hi, kenny. so many great covers! i do like those moorcock ones, particularly the whelan ones. that strugatsky one is SO nice. but as you say the prices of these books have become untenable for many of us. i'm not familiar with e. c. tubb's work but agree that the cover for prison of night is quite captivating. a book that has that DAW stamp in red? blasphemy! ;) thanks, as always, for sharing. cheers

You're right, those Bob Pepper covers are very distinctive. I Googled images and saw the PKD covers he did later on for DAW: remarkable. Very eye-catching and perfectly suited to the author's work. In regards to the other covers you show, I particularly like the one for the 1978 Best of Annual - gorgeous! 😍

Hi Paul. Yes I managed to get most of the later Philip Dick's recently and the covers are very striking. Yes, Jack Gaughan did his best work on the Best Ofs. Shame the art is shoved to one side. I'm sure it would have been full page on the original painting.

Ah, yes, that's it. Nr 296 Pursuit of the Screamer is the only Yellow Spine DAW I ever found that deviated from the yellow indicia on the front cover.

There are a couple of white ones toward the end of the series. I saw one on ebay recently that had no collectors number or UE number. Weird.

@@kennyrh9269 That one may be a later printing, or else, maybe it was one of the Cap Kennedy books? While they were published during the collector number period, they did not have numbers.
@kennyrh9269Ай бұрын
@@tedtalksstamps It wasn't a Cap Kennedy, I don't collect those. I can't remember which book it was but there were copies on ebay numbered then this odd copy without. Might have been the Canadian printings or maybe a small batch just misprinted.

Kenny, hey. Are you watching the new Joker movie? Im thinking getting 4k of this film.
@kennyrh9269Ай бұрын
Yes I went to see it at the IMAX just today. Don't know what everybody is moaning about. I'm going to get the steelbook.

Why am I suddenly searching for these books online 😂. Are you on some kind of commission, Kenny?

Because I'm a bad influence and I have you under my spell. Don't spend too much. 😂

I've read Lieber's "A Spectre is Haunting Texas", I didn't really like it at all. I couldn't read his "The Big Time", and didn't like his piece in "Dangerous Visions". I've read Thomas Burnett Swann's "Green Phoenix" and "The Day of the Minotaur", both of which I'd describe as a mythos in an historical context, as is his short story, "The Manor of Roses", set in medieval England. They're not really like fantasy, as you might think.

I'm not a big Leiber fan to be honest. Very vanilla I find by and large. I have a few Swann books now but I don't really fancy any of them.

@@kennyrh9269 I think you're right about Lieber. Well, they might be better than you think.
