Oh god these things are so hard to covert to a sleeper. I did it for an optiplex 7010 with an asrock b450m steel legend and a Vega 56 and the front panel headers are very proprietary (especially the usb2/audio header), there are pin outs on forums but be prepared for front panel audio to not work. You also need either a dremel or a sacrificial screw and a lot of force because the hard drive cage is part of the case. You can actually attach a 120mm fan/AIO in the front with 2 screws once the hard drive cage is removed, so I’m very much looking forward to how the next video will look

Wouldn't it be easier to use a drill bit + drill and drill out all the rivets since the HDD cage is riveted in? @@ntgm20 I have upcycled four i5 3470 computers in the last year. Each with 16Gb ram and a GTX 750ti or GTX 950. and a 1600x900 IPS monitor. None of those builds came to near the cost of building a new PC. @ $150 Flipped for a reasonable $ 250. What is ridiculous is what uninformed sellers are getting from uninformed consumers. However, when the price and reasonable expectations are given consideration, one realizes that they can get a good deal of performance for little money.
@ntgm203 жыл бұрын
@@kirkbrown1267 I think though you missed my point on cost of a new system. I'm talking about the $550 CAD that Dawid paid. I did get a 10th gen i3 system for about $330 this year, which would almost outperform the one in David's video even with its UHD 630. You should check out my two quick videos on my $30 PC.

i will say i love seeing a VGA port when im messing with tech as 9/10 it will just work and like its fine for anything that isnt gaming
@NXSProductions3 жыл бұрын
I should point out, I am building one of these (9010) that I picked up with 16GB of RAM, the i7-3770, and I am adding a GTX 1050 TI. At 1080p on medium/high settings, you can play anything you want on it. With an SSD and storage drive, these systems are still very capable budget build gaming computers. You can get the entire setup for under $400. Definitely worth it.

VGA is still super useful and for alot of older pcs that have a certain comfortability especially for writing software its super nice to have the ability to use legacy monitors.

You know, I think we have to give the builder points here for their colour-coordinated e-waste. The headset is black with orange trim to match the case repaint and the keyboard even has an orange badge on it too. That's attention to detail, right there. Wondering now if you could fit a little LED screen where the infinity mirror is and have an AIDA64 secondary sysinfo display there. Probably not with that GPU, though!

Did a HP Envy 2015 sleeper build. added a 3060 ventus and swapped mobo's from the i7-4790 cpu to a bazooka matx mobo and 10th gen 10400f cpu for 1080p CAD drafting, work and gaming.

I have that same CPU bought a prebuilt from a local computer store in 2013-2014 and it's still running
@Thewaterspirit57 Жыл бұрын
Also the Vega 6 iGPU does better, only because the thing has more cores and a higher frequency than the UHD770. Though lots of people have mixed thoughts about the CPU it’s packaged with. 4 cores 8 threads is good, and the thing is cheaper in the long run if you configure a system well enough, but it still doesn’t compare to 10th or 12th gen i3s.

100% have to do a crazy high end optiplex build, if there was ever an optiplex case to do it in, that's the one!

@Dawid, get yourself the i7-3770, slap it in there and so long as your GPU is the GDDR5 version of the card and not the normal DDR variant, you can easily get 60-90FPS in 1080p on GTA. On low/medium settings, I got mine to run Forza 5 at 60-80+ with no hangups, stutter, or crashes (you must have all game updates applied). These Optiplex systems are still very capable budget machines. Especially considering you are revamping the much more ancient Optiplex/Dimension with the Core 2 CPU in it.

I am actually surprised they didn't do that... (make a sleeper build) it's got all it needs to be able to easily move over to a higher end matx build rather than the circa 2013 era i5s. The 1030s are hard to get a hold of right now to... (CAD 130ish if you can even find one..) so it would have made some sense to just go to a Amd Ryzen 5600G with no video card and still sell it for 7-800.

My guess is that the Optiplex originally had a 2nd gen Intel CPU in it and the seller upgraded it to a 3rd gen CPU. All of the Optiplexes I’ve owned have USB 3.0 with the 3rd gen CPUs and USB 2.0 and VGA with 2nd gen CPUs. That’s my guess as an ancient Dell Optiplex aficionado.

NGL that's probably one of the least sinful office grade cases to do a sleeper build in. Looks like it comes stock with some form of ventilation, is that front panel completely punch-through with that cheese grater design? (That and the OEM form factor component mounts, ofc.)
@Josue316273 жыл бұрын
Honestly if that GT 1030 wasn't DDR4 (it has to be, the GDDR5 still beats or matches all integrated graphics) and had an i7 it definitely wouldn't be a scam at all, if it cost less than perhaps around $400 USD but no more than that (already a stretch). It does seem to be based of the Dell Optiplex 3010 which is the cheapest version of the Ivy Bridge-based Optiplexes. How much did it cost? I didn't really recall if you ever mentioned it. I love the Dell Optiplex videos. They're really a relic that's still very much usable in 2021/2022.

My first rig was a i5-3470, 16 GB of RAM, and a RX 480 and AIO water cooler. Not the best, but for what I paid it ran Cities: Skylines modded half decently. I eventually upgraded but those old i5 processors aren't that bad.

The front IO is not standard. Putting a MATX MB in will be tough. But you can put a power supply, an i7, 16gb mem, and a GTX 1070 and get respectful gaming.
