Join Abi from the Dawkes workshop as she takes apart this Edwards Bass Trombone valve section which features two Axial flow (or Thea style) valves. These units are modular and are designed to be taken apart in sections.
Abi discussed the modularity of the design, some important facts about cleaning and maintenance of these valves and we also get into some slide cleaning.
Dawkes Music operate the UK's leading Wind & Brass workshop with over 3,000 customer repairs per year. Check out the site for more info: www.dawkes.co.uk/brass-repairs

Man, i LOVE these sort of videos, i play so manny instraments, i absorbe the information, it feels forfilling and satisfying to hear your questions answered without even asking them, i wish these videos where longer, theres manny instrament repair videos on youtube, but i love the professinal level here, the confidence makes you feel relaxed, these guys know what there doing, and do it well, i watched a guy fixing a flute, said hes a professinal, but how manny times i chringed in that video, it was so so bad, no blute tape, tapping on parts to show what hes talking about, i was like AHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, and it was a customers flute, oh my gosh, if i sent any of my instraments to you guys, i would feel that its in good hands, and that its basicly going to the spa, for a beautiful revitalising pamper, i would have FULL confidence in you guys to take care of my prizzed possetions, thank you for being so passinate about your craft, and for having such a level of finesse, the world would be a verry quiet place without you guys doing the work you do, i dont think you know the importance to this job, music is such a needed thing, just a single note can do so much, and you are the people who keep the sound going, to all people who play an instrament and have these people service them, we should all look up to them like they are a god, Abi here was so confident and spoke well, i really enjoiyed listning to you Abi, you shine brighter than that brass, thank you EVER so much for taking the time to make these videos, its ever so pleasing, kindest regards to you all.

Abi did a fine job of showing and explaining but she earns bonus points at 8:50 for mentioning "making it easier for the next person" to take apart by doing preventive lubrication. If only more technicians would be pro-active about doing things correctly, many repairs and maintenance tasks would be simplified and ultimately, save money for the customer.

That green stuff is VERDEGRIS which will occur on any copper based alloy - copper, brass and bronze. Brass is copper and zinc, bronze is copper and tin. Verdegris is actually quite poisonous if ingested. I suggest using a face shield when removing it. Great video. Thank you. Ian

Face shield unnecessary as long as you don't suck the verdegris out of the tube. Been repairing brass for over 20 years and never had a problem with it.
