I see music creators with 100k subs and above do a ton of talk about gear yet rarely talk about setting up., This content is pure gold and more need to do this 1. For beginners to help decide if this is worth investing money into 2. If you’ve opened that wallet, how the hell do I set this up. This wasn’t taught in high school. You gained a sub for this. Yeah thats how I have my setup, more performance based for sure. And, when I create something special, I will perform it in a few different ways. Much more versatile way of working. These kids these days dont use sends like us old dogs lol great video man. Was just wondering if you can recommend a good quakity mixer with good preamps. Thanks

I definitely enjoy a more improvisational setup. I route through the Octatrack to avoid external mixers. I have been looking at the Tascam Model 12 as a reasonably priced full function mixer/ recorder. Seems solid for the price. Thanks so much for watching!!

The knobs on the pc12 aren’t endless. How does that work when you change a value on the elektron instrument? i.e. if you had knob A01 controlling the filter cutoff on a digitone, and turned that knob the right most position, then you changed the value of the cutoff on the digitone to an arbitrary value, would the A01 knob have a maximum at the said arbitrary value and only be able to move to lower values?
@SURCOlive10 ай бұрын
It’s true that not having endless encoders is less than ideal. The plus of the PC12 is that there are enough knobs to keep them by channel rather than having them be by active track. This also allows the adjustment of non selected parameters which virtually eliminates switching tracks live. There is also the option to set up the knobs to ‘hook’ the parameter rather than ‘jump’ if you prefer. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

As for the routing... the A4 needs to get the clock signal from whatever you have running the clock (Octatrack I think). That will not come from the PC12, so you will need to merge an OT out signal with the PC12 signal in to your A4. I hope this helps...

I use the Faderfox PC12 for the OT because there is so much more I like to have control over. I am a big fan of the volume sliders on the Launch Control though, and it has 24 pots too (for a lot less money). It all comes down to what is the most musical for you to play for sure. Let me know what you pick.

@SURCOlive3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I am planning to do that exact video very soon. I love using the Novation LaunchControl XL for the Digitakt. I have been a DJ and producer for years, so I am a big fan of having tactile knobs and sliders to manipulate the sounds. Some people who are more used to pads from Akai or Push prefer to use pad based controllers. I personally get a lot more inspirational feedback from seeing where the knobs and sliders are, and from actually moving them to shape the sound. Thank you again for watching, and please let me know if you would like to see anything else that could be helpful. CHEERS!

@@SURCOlive I could really use that tutorial, as I have both of them and dont use them together 😅 I hope to have a set up like yours in the near future. I have a question: what do you map to the Novation’s lower buttons? Can you map a function such as Fill mode? Id love to see a video about your way, tips & ideas for transitions between tracks. I also do improvs and sometimes they are too untidy or very drastic!! Thanks again! Hugs from Buenos Aires

Thanks for the video :) there is something that annoy me with midi controllers is that when you change the pattern the settings of the midi controller won't be matching the hardware. It can be quickly confusing, how you do with that?
@SURCOlive3 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you are controlling. Sometimes there are global MIDI settings that apply across patterns for things like control changes. If the settings are only by pattern it is important to set up each pattern with the settings you will want. I would also do a template that has your controller settings saved. Start with that, then 'save as' to save it without overwriting your template. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Nice very interested for you to dive even deeper! Very good learning series. My question after seeing both videos is how exactly are you using the Octatrack? I see you primarily using the digitakt and digitone and the AR. I could see using one row for samples, and another row as a looping setup of your live signal to live remix.. I use a launch pad pro and love it but I do miss knobs! Seeing your fader! I’m jealous;)
@SURCOlive3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I’ll go deeper in to the individual pieces of gear in the upcoming videos. Basically, the Octatrack serves four roles. It is the midi center for everything sending clock, transport, and changes. It is the summing mixer and master effects for everything in the setup that I use for transitions and overall effects (including a master compressor to glue the whole mix). I also use it for longer samples, vocals, stems of my original productions that I want to incorporate live, and basically any samples that benefit from the time stretching capabilities of the Octatrack. Lastly I have at least one looper track (sometimes more) that I can use for live remixing and also for transitions. For me the Octatrack is the foundation of the whole set, and at the same time the icing on the cake. I hope this helps. I’ll for sure get in to this in an upcoming video. In these first videos I wanted to keep it as simple as possible, but the Octatrack will be the star of its own series. :) Thanks again so much for watching and commenting! Cheers!
