Living in the US, it is great to be able to see this as it progresses. My daughter lives in Dawlish and my son in Plymouth so I am hoping to see the finished project when I come over next :)

Good luck to you all for tomorrow's opening and I watch with interest as that Bridge section goes in soon. Opening just in time for the season which will make all the traders happy and will get a boost from all the extra people coming to see the new wall for the first time. Local businesses must have been having a tough time of late so any increase in footfall will be welcome. Just need the trains to actually run to a regular schedule again.

I was in Dawlish today (24 05 23) I’m really impressed by all the work that has been done. Sadly can’t make it tomorrow for the opening but I’ll get a chance later in June. Could you ask Jack are they going to give the viaduct a lick of paint or is that down to Network Rail. It’ll be a shame if they don’t. Carry on the good work & I’ll look forward to the next update. Thanks Neil

The three rusty sections of railway girder bridge detract from this glorious project. Will the steel bridge sections be repainted anytime soon? The station structures? Otherwise, congratulations to all!!
@JohnnyMotel99 Жыл бұрын
I have asked this question before, with no precise answer. Seems its a council issue (which is odd for a structure that take Network Rail trains). Someone needs to grasp this nettle.
@andrewreynolds4949 Жыл бұрын
Network Rail has said there’s currently no plan to do so, since it’s just a cosmetic issue
@JohnnyMotel99 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewreynolds4949 doesn't look cosmetic on the videos, irrespective of that, surely it's a structural element and any corrosion is not ideal. But perhaps it is no longer structural...
@andrewreynolds4949 Жыл бұрын
@@JohnnyMotel99 All I know is that Network Rail said in their long document about the project was they examined the structure, and found the rust was only cosmetic. They claimed it would just reappear quickly and they had no plans to repaint it. In my opinion it looks alright. I've seen a lot of similarly rusty structures still working just fine in service. I've also seen some heavy rust damage before and I can't see any in the video, so I wouldn't be worried about it.

I wonder if the wall will be periodically jetwashed (maybe once a year?) to ensure that it maintains that clean, smart appearance? Would be a great shame if it deterioriates aesthetically with algae, discolouration etc.

They could have painted the bridge
@adelia988 Жыл бұрын
You could have put a little stage by the brick benches so local actors could preform or music but the flat bit across could also be used. Also some of the wall surfaces could have mosaics made with shells and broken tiles and china, maybe someone would love to do that, it makes it easier to keep graffiti off.

Is the old foot bridge connecting the platforms going to be removed in the future then or is that staying and going to be renovated ?

No

The 'old' footbridge is not very old at all. It was replaced a few years ago with a composite construction designed to look the same as the one that was there before.
