In this update of the Dawlish Sea Wall, we take a look at the new footbridge as it gets closer to completion; we look inside the new lift shafts, and Jack Brookes shows us around the stilling basin now all three spans are open.

After years of watching your wonderful videos of this incredible project, if I had my 1970 apprenticeship choices again, I would certainly have chosen civil engineering. These men and women are clearly a source of great pride to their families and their Employers. Well done all involved, we need more like you. 🙏👍🇬🇧

Great explanation so us ordinary mortals can easily understand all that you have been doing in terms we (without engineering degrees) can understand. Most of us couldn't possibly imagine all that you do, but given in relatively small dolops of info makes it all staightforward. Thanks.

What a beautiful job the BAM men and associated sub- contractors are making of the finishing features of this job! I expect that a lot of your subscribers (including myself) will want to visit Dawlish next season to walk the whole fascinating project, so local hotels and guest houses be prepared! Thank you “Coast Cam” man 🙏

Thanks Jack for detailing how much goes into all the little things that make a great project complete. Thanks too to you Neil for the great video, skillfully edited to give viewers the best possible views of what goes into industrial scale projects. Jack and Neil, a brilliant combination, that gives us, the onlookers a most wonderful understanding of the the complexity, and intricacy of design, and execution. Thanks guys.Greatest respect for you both and all the people you represent that have had input into this project.

@17:18 mention of telecoms for lift emergency call, in 2025 all telecom / PTSN phone lines are switching off so I guess these will need to be digital IP lines for all lifts going forward. We are having to adjust ours and add battery back up as it won’t be line powered any more. Great tour !

Really admire your commitment Jack throughout this project, the orange army have been very committed to a great job , I think the flood this week has shown how much it has benefited this week. Being it a bit different storm. It all looks really good. Be nice to walk the see walk and be able to stop for a rest along the way. Well done all including all updates from Neil thank you. So hope the bridge will be cleaned up a bit, as it looks really shabby as it is.

If we could afford this quality of coastal protection around all of the exposed endangered parts of our “little island”, it would be far safer for future generations to live near them. Wonderful engineering prowess 🙏🇬🇧

Dawlish isn’t the only place in the country that needs work, millions has already been spent on it already.

At the end of the video I see that the waves have damaged the lower part of the pontoon that the none wave return blocks are sat on.

I don’t believe so. What you’re probably seeing is a seam between precast blocks, there’s 3 layers of them under the barrier units. They can be seen in the update video for July of 2022

I do wonder what will happen to the old footbridge when the new one is opened. As part of the Grade II listed station it should remain, but that’s not what happened at St Austell.

I'm confused was this done before the storm last week? Others are talking about how big the impact was and the flooding down the creek to the sea.
@CoastCams247
@CoastCams247 Жыл бұрын
This was filmed a couple of days before the storm but the sea wall and stilling basin are fine. A little bit of debris to be cleared. Nothing major on the sea wall.
@georgethomas7814

@@CoastCams247 It was shock to see the creek and the sea competing for the small gap under the bridge. I presume the tracks and station are now protected from these floods. I hope you can include some footage of the storm and the effectiveness of the new wall.

All very worthy around Dawlish but, the entire route from Starcross to Teignmouth will require work over many years costing many millions. I’m afraid despite objections the Oakhampton route must never be discarded. The population on this route to Plymouth has quadrupled since the sixties.

Yes it’s called “new shoe syndrome” ( where you’re lovely comfy old shoes seemed to look fine until the day you get to compare them to your brand new ones, then you realise how “tatty” your old ones really looked!) 😁

Network Rail’s report on the spans is they are solid, rust present is cosmetic staining that would come back relatively quickly

Can they paint the bridge next to the road as it looks awful and rusty. Blue with some black swans or Dawlish written in letters.
