allowing for shifting baseline syndrome - nature bounces back (just not in paved areas during 'normal' working hours)

Indeed, what is that VOLUME? Do turn it up! Wise words once again. The UK soundscape is still one of noisy birds in the late spring dawn. Sadly far fewer people are in tune with it and rarely take account of just how and why it is a tad bit different to those dawns of the 1960s (just before my time). In your recording I can at least identify the following birds, some of which are those you already mentioned. Blackbirds, Wrens, Pheasants, Great Tits, Chiffchaffs, Woodpigeons are all to be found in behind your narration. Best wishes, Tony.

I hear a massive difference in the dawn chorus. Even compared to the previous year it's much diminished. Same story in Poland where our Summer cottage is where even nesting boxes were empty this year. I don't think this is on the scale of the industrial revolution anymore. I fear downslope changes are going on as we speak.

context specific - birdboxes full here in wild hills. upslope thinking provides ways to reverse declines!
