@@TheAnarchitekyou are right that many are not particularly great or memorable, but a few stand out. It wasn't God that made Honky Tonk Angels was a big hit for Kitty Wells and launched her career, and opened the door for women singers in country. Sweet Home Alabama was a bit of a response to Southern Man by Neil Young. And one very well-known song that literally talks about the original and explains that he was the driver of the other car in the original song, although people never even notice, is Hot Rod Lincoln. One of the most interesting stories is the Roxanne Wars of the early 80s that spawned over 200 responses and was the origin of both Roxanne shante, and the real Roxanne. It's a fun read

Which is great evidence what direction our nation was going in. I will say, it is still good this T.V. clip exists, as so much 1940s/50s & 60s TV is lost to neglegence. ...and yes, the song is unintentionslly funny. Love eve of destruction. It says so much, with so much power. It might seem bleak, but think the point was a warning to get off our ass's , and do something. Had never heard of Dawn of Correction till just today. Pretty disappointing on all levels. I'll give the 3 main reasons it's disappointing. 1. It's not just that the lead singer seemed like he was trying to somewhat copy McGuires voice, which I don't know might've been ok. But he had no soul, no emotion , no immediacy of the importance. The lyrics to eve of destruction was great. But so was McQuire' voice. Not that he had this raspy sound, but the emotion, he made it life or death. We were with him right on the edge. 2. The lyrics are so wrong. Eve of Destruction might be bleak looking, but it is real. These lyrics are propaganda...."the western world has a common dedication. To keep free people from Red domination", it's that typical conservative propaganda of the fear of Communism. To be clear, I'm not capitalist or Communist. That said, at least I have read Socialist and Communist writings, it's merely a different system. Saying it is evil are lies. There might've been some bad leaders, like Stalin is always mentioned, there's also been bad capitalist leaders. That's not either of the systems necessarily. So to say 'free people of red domination' is propaganda and a lie. We jumped into Vietnam, because of Eisenhowers wrong paranoia of Communism. His fear he called the Domino Theory, that if Vietnam becomes Communist country, they will takeover the whole area ie Cambodia, Laos, Thailand. For one, that's not true, there wasn't an agenda like that. More so, so what if they did, capitalist countries like US are always invading, overthrowing , taking power in other countries. Hell, US has 800 american military bases around the world. Why? I lived for 20 years in S.E.Asia. Mainly Thailand, but some time in Vietnam, Malaysia. Just moved back to the States. Vietnam right now is quite the 'happening' place. Cool country. Lots going on in culture, the Arts, commerce, etc in Vietnam. And guess what... The Communists won that war. And to today they're pretty successful, all under a Communist government. Thats not a promotion for Communism. Vietnam isn't perfect there's problems there. But I'd put the same problems they have , that Thailand has. And Thailand is not a Communist country at all. Communist or capitalist, the problems usually are the ones in power being greedy and screwing over their own people. 3. Lastly, I'm all for someone doing a song alternative to another, as far as the politics,etc.. But I hate that they do it exactly. The way the stanzas are, the lead singer really copying mcquire, the rhthym of it.. they just copied eve of destruction verbatim, on every leve. I hate that

It wasn't NEARLY "the greatest protest song of all time",Rev. Bud; it can't hold a candle to Edwin Starr's 1970 anti-war classic "War (What Is It Good For ?") In fact,with its anti-Commie lyrics,it seems an Old Left Cold War song. The Communists of "Dawn Of Correction" have been replaced by today's white nationalists,including Trump; Florida and Georgia African American voter suppression kept Andrew Gillum and Stacy Abrams for being their respective state's first black Governor. (The suppression done "legally" not with bloated goober "deputies" beating Voting Rights protestors as happened 54 years ago .(Of course ,even in benighted Mississippi today,a black man such as I can date or marry white women,which was still illegal there in' 65 .) The song to me proves that the more things change,the more they remain the same .

Eve of destruction is a crap song by a crap singer, made listenable by a band called the screaming Jets And seriously this song makes a good point It's just so BAD
@rex89583 жыл бұрын
Why is it bad? I’m curious
@Briellen_Mellott2 жыл бұрын
I just listened to the jets version. not bad. The Turtles did a good version except for leaving out the verse about the handful of senators.
