The opening of this movie has one of the best mid-zombie-apocalypse sequences in cinema. The bit where she's driving through the town and we're seeing hell break loose all around her is incredible. In a lot of zombie apocalypse movies, we don't really get to see the zombie apocalypse in process, it's often either after the apocalypse has hit full swing, or we're in a small, isolated area where we can see the horde, but not the effect it is having on civilization.

Romero’s “night of the living dead” has the statement that a satellite from Venus that was giving off a strong unknown radiation was destroyed in atmosphere. So this radiation is 1 actual possible reason why everybody/most everybody who dies comes back. Sure “no more room in Hell” is also a possibility, but I like the radiation explanation.
@JS-wp4gs3 жыл бұрын
It was never explicitly stated that was the reason, though it was strongly implied. I loved Andy and was oddly affected by his death. I figured the same since he looked like he was in a hurry and _seemed_ alive at first. He didn't want them coming after him once he realized he was done for. He built up a sense of friendship with Ving Rhames and the rest of the crew and didn't want them to risk their lives since he figured they'd attempt a rushed and likely suicidal rescue attempt. Makes sense too since many gun stores (at least in my experience) tend to be run by veterans or former cops.

I like using slang terms. Gat is probably my personal favorite. I also like strap and piece. Stick is a good word for longarms like rifles and shotguns, particularly with wood body firearms. Blaat (spelled with one or two As) Refers to a fully automatic, or potentially burst fire firearm of an especially rapid fire rate, typically of a smaller size, usually under the classification of a machine pistol or submachinegun. Iron can be used but this typically refers to a larger "cowboy gat" such a magnum revolver or lever action (i fucking adore lever actions). Irons are extremely reliable and it should be noted that it is said to be quite difficult to confront a trained individual such as an Arizona ranger when he is armed with an iron of significant enough size.
Imagine the pain avoiding the word for boomsticks to not get demonetized and then dropping the "Cov-19" (which is apparently also a demonetization trigger) at the end of a video :( Anyway boomstick is awesome

Pretty sure these Zombies are dead. Lack of a pulse and the fact that quite a few were necrotic or appeared to be in later stages of decomposition. Many zombies had severe trauma and would bleed out / die within minutes, and wouldn't be able to chase someone down due to lack of blood. Given the amount of zombies the survivors encountered during their escape, after surviving in the mall for what is presumably months, would also indicate that the dead are being reanimated since most zombies probably would have succumbed to dehydration, infection, starvation, exhaustion, exposure If they were still living. This would significantly mitigate any sort of hoard action as many would die before any hoard could develop. Also the severed head at the end, clearly animate and functioning without a body in the cooler after being at sea for quite a while (at the minimum at least 3 or 4 days) is probably the biggest tip off that these things are dead. Some other process is animating these corpses. Don't think bed rest and antibiotics would have fixed this. Interesting video tho. Love your work.

@porpus994 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. Which is why I do not think this is the work of a virus, at least not one operating by the known laws of Earth. To accomplish a "Zombie Plague" such as this, the central nervous system would need to be preserved(Running alone takes a lot of coordination, let alone working object with hands), along with the muscular functionality, ocular functions, and hearing while the non essential body parts begin to decay. Not sure if the infected can smell or not, but presumably they can as a means of distinguishing an infected from a non infected. For this to happen the virus would need to completely alter the functions of a human body to no longer require nutrition, oxygen, or water. The need to 'feed' is simply triggering correct mental function and causing the zombie spread whatever sort of pathogen this is. Basically the very most primal parts of the human brain. This would convert the human into something not human. Dead would not be a good description. It would be an entirely new life form.

A few issues with your theories. First, the little girl at the beginning, as far as we know, could have been attacked by her infected parents, ran to Anna's house as they were close friends, once inside the front door, she could have succumbed to her wounds and once she rose again, wandered the house until finding the two in bed asleep. There is no indication that she walked over and attacked out of memory. Second, the zombies not wanting to attack the dog, could very well have been because of the virus. The virus may not be transferable to anything other than humans, and since the purpose of a virus is to spread, it would attack the only things it can spread to, which would be humans in this case. Finally, as already mentioned in other comments, there is far too much to go against the theory that these zeds are alive. Now, I know all to well that the traditional zombie is impossible, but, as was already pointed out, the cooler scene at the final part of the film shows that the zeds can clearly survive, so long as the brain remains intact and undamaged. Great movie though, wish they would have made a modern sequel.

So Roanoke, any thoughts on doing the Mercer Virus (and its predecessor from the first game) and associated creatures, horrors and wonders? I know Prototype is a relatively unloved specimen, but i loved those games, flawed as they were, and i think the Mercer Virus would provide some interesting content, especially with the White Light, Evolved and such. Too bad Prototype 2 was sabotaged by publishers from the start, it had such a fantastic vision and would have made a stellar series, but who cares when Call of Duty is there to exploit for money right?

This is by far my favorite zombie movie of all time simply because of the nature of the zombies. This is one of very few scenarios where I could see a legit Armageddon for humanity happening because the ONLY way to kill them is to take out the brain. That is a very difficult target to hit in a normal confrontation and would be almost impossible with the erratic and quick movements the zombies exhibit in the film. Not even an army of Tier 1 operators could handle a swarm like that. At least in most other movies the zombies are "alive" and are susceptible to normal trauma, bombs, starvation, etc so you can lay into them with a machine gun and take them down. Try that with DOTD2004 zombies and you'll just run out of ammo and die. Also, it is fucking hilarious to watch Phil Dumphy be an asshole to everyone.

8:43 your theory dies here, they're dead by the very factor that no virus can cause anyone to move around without blood flow. so even if they were "walking dead" they wouldn't actually move either. There's no real logic behind this movie, they're just supernatural walking dead and that's all there is to them.
@Richard-mo1nc4 жыл бұрын
All these talk of blood and human organs make my hands sweaty and knees weak. Haha this is why I can’t be a doctor of any sort. This movie is definitely showing the supernatural of zombie horror. When trying to find a theoretical explanation for reanimating deceased bodies, it’s impossible to explain how the virus in the movie can resuscitate a person when all internal organs have failed and most importantly the circulation of blood and other important chemicals that keeps the complex system of the human body functioning. The decapitated head has me skeptical, but, in regards to the movie, it was funny and gives a good little jump scare. Still, I liked this video valiant effort in trying to explain some of the biology of the human and the nature of viruses.

Ayyyy a virus video. Goes without saying that it's very topical. I'm starting to feel dead being stuck at home for days bow.
@edwardcatt23994 жыл бұрын
This virus is impossible and so despite the more "science fiction" bent of the film I think the "supernatural" is far more a satisfying explanation. Even if the husband at the start was bit on the carotid and thus infecting the brain relatively instantly, the virus' rate of replication still violates thermodynamic laws in how fast it replicates. Like, if matter replicated like that then the host would be a literal nuclear explosion in seconds. Or the virus would literally boil the host alive, or they'd be reduced to goo in seconds a.l.a. the Wicked Witch of the West meeting water. Another thing - if a bite to a neck vessel = instant zombification, then why not a scratch to the little toe? The time differential is illogical. I mean, the virus is still incubating at light speed so ultimately who cares where you're bit? It's over in seconds no matter where on you the virus is introduced. I prefer the interpretation that the whole world is already infected with latent virus but those who are bitten close to vitals die of the immediate injury and reanimate. Even after reanimation it'd be unique and cool to interpret these zombies as "alive" and they _were_ clinically dead for a few minutes, but then again that living head in the chiller box on the island belies that interpretation. Nope. To the tune of "Nice Video", "Cool zombie film, explanation sucks".
@timmellow13534 жыл бұрын
It has to be supernatural otherwise the zombies should just decompose & collapse after a couple weeks
@edwardcatt23994 жыл бұрын
@tim mellow - Well, most zombie movie "diseases" portray a dramatic deceleration of decomposition 'cos the virus thwarts bacterial processes - I'm OK with that kinda sci-fi bent. Another thing that always bothered me about _DOTD'04_ was the apparent speed is the outbreak. I think the film earnestly depicts this as a fluid-bite disease and the living are uninflected and wouldn't reanimate if dying "naturally". I'm guessing the huge success of _28 Days Later_ really impacted _DOTD'04_ in that way, even to the point of having their zombies running. Why then is this disease global after 24 hours? It'd have to be there were _multiple_ "patient zeros" in myriad locations around be world and even then..? To infect the entirety of the USA in under 12 hours? You'd need a "patient zero" on every block. How the hell did this spread so universally in such little time? I know it's "cool" to see on screen but to me it makes zero sense. Even _28_ had throwaway dialogue to the effect that the "rage virus" took weeks to spread across the U.K. I do like the idea that these zombies have no mental capacity for object permanence but then why would they "remember" where important places in their former lives were? It sucks but I really think this "disease" bellies any attempt to rationalize it so fine. It's some blood/waterborne "magic" (though I remember being confused by the scene of the water fountain when the dude washed the zombie's blood off his hands into the water).

I used to watch your videos and wonder if the creators of the games/movies actually had this much thought in their zombies/monsters since you were able to describe it so logically that I figured they had to have thought the same thing. I guess this video kinda proves it's just scientific/medical theory based on the source material. If I recall, I think the zombies in the movie are actually the dead come back to life...indicated by the ones who have severe damage and don't bleed to death and still function. One is even just a head in a cooler with some random guts and it's still functional. They don't bleed out and they only reanimate after dying. And yes I know once we get to the supernatural, science kinda goes out the window so this channel can't really jump too much into that because the whole thing is scientific explanation of zombies and monsters. What you said about the last breath kicking off the change over but they're actually alive, that's probably the coolest explanation ever given and it would be cool to see that in a movie. People assume the dead have come back but they didn't really "die" they just sort of stopped breathing for a minute and kickstarted again, making it look like they came back from the dead. Also in the movie the zombies seemed to respond to movement, just not animals. They only had interest when the dog was being lowered because it was movement they could see, but they weren't interested in the dog. I think they only noticed the doggie door because it was sudden movement and the guy couldn't close it. Anyways, love your vids. The concept of your vids is extremely unique and fascinating and an amazing way to learn some biology and science will enjoying zombie talk. Please never stop making videos. The world needs you

One story I've read it has an interesting take on a zombie virus. It's like the mutated cordyceps from Last of Us but much more brutal. One such was told from an infected human, over time it was explained in detail how the virus was taking over his body. Fully conscious, until the involuntary muscle spasms come on, he felt like his body was moving on its own with his muscles stiff dry that he can only move his fingertips as he walk in an involuntary and erratic motor motion, aka the zombie walk. Next was the intense acidic reaction from his metabolism causing him to feel such a painful hunger that he felt like the stomach acid was eating his insides. Then as he moved on, he saw the rest of the infected all moving in the same manner as his, take note the infected was STILL FULLY CONSCIOUS. Then at a distance when he saw survivors he tried to call for help, but the virus has swollen his voice box and tongue that the only sound he can make were growls and gurgles. He tried to stop but his limbs won't listen, until he met his end at the end of a 12 gauge.
