This creature has some of the most original design in a long time, first time you see it it looks almost laughable funny, like man u dont meat this serious, which is QUICKLY turned to WTF during the family slaughter sequence. 100% original and interesting concept for me in the age where everyone just copies monsters from other movies like copycat with little invention. The fuse of realistic monster, body horror and cartoonish treats are the biggest WTF moment.

Aside from every horror movie with an invasion (alien or otherwise) requiring the military to be a bunch of incompetent idiots for the movie to even happen, it could be that there were a huge amount of these creatures at the start, as in literally millions of them, and they managed to overwhelm the military through sheer numbers, and the ones seen in the movie are the remnants of that fight, still fairly numerous but nowhere near the numbers of the initial attack. Otherwise, it might be that some other disaster happened. Mass epidemic, a big war, famine... any number of things that could have dropped the number of humans so low these things could come out to attempt to finish them out. Plus, these things are clearly not the dominant species. They can only be active when there's no sunlight, severely limiting them. They can, supposedly, only hunt humans, which means they'll all die as soon as all humans are dead. And while they're intelligent enough to employ ambush tactics and to prepare a terrain for an assault before the actual assault, they also seem to lack a decent survival instinct, seeing as one of them attacked two humans during the day and while in numerical disadvantage instead of trying to escape and hide, and a bunch of them elected to try and chase three humans (as in, not enough to feed the entire group, but only for 3 of them, seeing how they feed) while being on fire instead of rolling on the ground or running towards a source of water as an animal would usually do when burning alive.

I still have no idea why they were in the maze. It was explained to me like this. They were in the maze to test how the immune's brains work and also to weed out the immune from the non immune. These explanations don't make sense. The immune are precious but you risked their lives because you added the grievers for absolutely no reason at all. Why are the control group abd the immune mixed into one group? Thats not how a control group works In the second movie we found out non immune can make it through the maze too and also there actually IS a way to test who is immune and who isn't so whats the point kf the maze trials??? If you need different types of stress to make enzymes from the immune then why don't you just use different stressors without risking life or death, you give all these kids amnesia just give them amnesia again.
