@@MackTheMadman that is largely a myth. Humans largely run on auto pilot, with things such as breathing and body regulation being done automatically, independent of concentration. Only a small portion is available for free thought, with a bit more becoming free during sleep. This movie is pretty unique in that it shows the werewolves being powerful, but awkward. Spoon is using that against them, staying one step ahead of a single creature while delivering some pretty powerful hits. All it will take is one hit from it, so he isn't letting that happen while going hard. Had the werewolves survived, he likely would have been the hardest shit they had to take, too, lol.

there is also the case of Judas,as he was paid 30 silver coins to sell out Yeshua (commonly known as Jesus), later regretting his decision and throwing the coins into the temple before hanging himself, which would give silver, mythologically speaking, both holy and unholy properties.

@@fukumarkzuckerburg That last bit could show silver as being a sign of balance between light and darkness, or good and evil, which one could argue that lycanthropy is a lack of said balance. Funny thing is, poison in general is recommended for use against werewolves along with silver and quicksilver. Specifically the plant hemlock is named and it is a pretty deadly poison to normal people as it is, let alone if they had the metabolism o& a werewolf.

DANIEL M. Going off of Roanoke’s theory it would actually make sense, do keep in mind that disease and poison are not the same thing, so if they are resistant to disease they can still be weak to poison. But at any rate that’s what I remember in their lore, quicksilver by the way is just another name for mercury essentially, so the recommended weapon against a werewolf is a dose of toxic metal, poison, and silver blades or projectiles.

While not super competent if one looks at it from a realism standpoint, the soldiers are head and shoulders above the vast majority of government/armed forces in horror movies here and it shows. Now, if every horror movie had a mofo as tough as Spoon as part of the survivors....

@@krazykuz13cmc yes but upto that point in film and legends the mind of werewolves was almost pure animal with no higher thought other then a sharper cunning and understanding of how humans would react e.g mauling someone and leaving them screaming in view of their prey as it would not only cause panic but often trigger massive emotional outbursts like a mother rushing to help her wounded child even though she knows that the werewolves will storm through and kill everyone the moment she unbars the door - so the fact they could not only remember how to pull a trigger but more importantly how to chamber a fresh round and appear to have been counting the soldier's rounds as it uses the last round and doesn't even try to chamber another before throwing it back which in itself is a very odd behaviour its almost like it did all that just as a "how do you like it when someone shoots at you uh?" @@mercurioslevin1877 Tbh that is quite in line with the older stories (starting with king Lycaon) that a werewolf is not scary cause of what it physically is(especially since werewolf denotes a man that turned into a wolf and not the "man-wolf" wolf in a more anthropomorphic form interpretation of more modern media) but because of that it has the mind of man, and that potential malice is more destructive than a wolf hunting to eat(even if it's your livelihood its eating) especially in a tradition that considers animals to be under humans by divine right. Also the older stories seem to imply that the mind is kept intact( examples would be the Breton Lai of Melion and Bisclavret, the Livonian Werewolf of Thiess of Kaltenbrun and livonians in general, or just any of the transformations that involve sorcery, removing the clothes or using a wolf skin/belt) and what the werewolf does is more dependent on the individual. TLDR: I suspect the family is perfectly aware of what is happening although they might be psychotic due to their power going to their heads. Oh and if the wiki is correct that theme of "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely" would have been part of the sequel, so make of it what you will. Edit: oh and yes i suspect the werewolf was counting the shots, a capacity of 8 would be quite standard for a shotgun(even if the magazine seems to be a bit small for even a 7th shot, eh maybe a blooper)

Yeah I thought I was crazy for remembering it like this, I think this dude kinda forgot that point a little bit cause I remember it being like the big twist of the film. Like getting the Jeep out of the barn. She knew the wolves were their!

I dunno, seemed more to me like she was playing both sides of the field. She didn't want to be part of the family and was looking for an escape from being a part of it. The soldiers were her chance out, though it's never stated as to why that is. She holds off on changing as long as she can, hoping that the soldiers can free her, but they never do. Out of hope and out of time, she lies and lets the werewolves in, contributing to the kill instead of becoming a target. I just don't see any other reason for way she would hold back her change once they'd gotten the soldiers trapped in the house and destroyed their means of transportation, if she was just luring them to their deaths. And, no, I don't think it was part of a game because predators don't really play games when they're hunting for food.

This was a fun movie, though I wouldn't put it at the top of my favorite werewolf flicks. In my opinion, werewolves work best when their affliction is treated as a curse, as opposed to a fast-acting "infection". The torment and regret of characters like Lawrence Talbot or the main character from "An American Werewolf in London" makes the carnage they leave behind all the more tragic. All the same, I really wish werewolves had a larger presence in modern film and media; vampires, zombies and aliens have hogged the spotlight for far too long as it is.

@Wolf Generally in places like Britain and sometimes in North America receiving a bladed weapon, or something which could be considered a weapon can be seen as a sort of passive-aggressive warning. It's somewhat on par with how in Mexico vacationer homes which have been broken into and burglarized sometimes have machetes left on their beds, which is a more subtle way of saying "Don't call the police, we know where you live and we know you have a family". Although I'm probably wrong, this is just all from memory and I'm pretty sure that if I received a letter opener right now I'd be more concerned with why someone in 2020 was still sending letters when email exists

Gonna be honest. I wouldn't put 30 Days Of Night into my top 5. That said, I do think it's a very underrated movie, and I think it'd sneak into my top 10 fave vampire films. My favorite vampire movie is probably George A. Romero's Martin......and my 2nd favorite is Let The Right One In (not the American version Let Me In....but the original film). I guess there's a small chance that I may flip-flop these 2 movies at numbers 1 & 2 if I'm being honest. I do like both films quite a bit. If you aren't familiar w/ Martin, please give it a look. Up front, if you aren't already aware of the movie, there's no way you'd consider it the best vampire film.....as it is a "different" kind of vampire movie. More of a serial killer who may or may not actually be nosferatu.....but he believes he is a vampire, and some of his family members do as well. They leave it intentionally vague in the film. Could be mental health stuff. Could be a vampire. Either way, this is a near-forgotten Romero classic that gets overshadowed by his more "famous" works, such as Night Of The Living Dead, Dawn Of The Dead, Creepshow, etc etc etc.

I just wanted to take a moment to say a couple things about this movie. This is my absolute favorite werewolf movie. My brother (who passed away in the first wave of covid) loved all things supernatural. This is his favorite one as well. Spoon and sarge were our favorites, and just like everyone we laughed so hard when Spoon hammers the hand. But one of the best aspects is these characters are fleshed out. The scene in the beginning where they are saying their fears is a great way to get to know them. Like cooper is afraid of spiders.... and women... spider women. Then he confronts a female werewolf. It makes them people. You CARE about them. You are sad when Spoon and sarge die. A lot of American movies forget that. My brother was my best friend. I watch these types of movies when I miss him the most. He never got to see Underwater... but (he is 11 years older than myself) read me the story of Cthulu when I was far to young to really understand it . So I like to imagine his watching it with me. Well that is assuming the virus doesn't partly fix what causes the aging like the shortening of telomeres since it seems to ramp up the healing process, so it might just cause the immune response to be even more aggressive against failing or worn out cells to the point that you stay effectively young so long as you can keep yourself fed. Actually I would have to say it would considering it is accelerating the body to grow at thousands of times faster than normal meaning it's reproducing new cells at an ungodly rate (which is why as in the video he mentioned all the heat.) so that would also mean that the chances of cancerous cells would be multiplied thousands of times as well (not that we don't produce them on a daily basis as it is)

Fast-forward to my highschool years, literally at EVERY Halloween party I attended and even having to party hop much like bar hopping between my groups of friends, they ALL would always request "DUDE PLEASE BRING YOUR WEREWOLF MOVIE!!!" It just made me appreciate this movie so much more because ALL my friends absolutely loved it and I was the only one to literally have a physical copy (and this is back in the EARLY 2000's mind you) but regardless it just goes to show how fu©king awesome this movie is, and STILL holds up to this day!

Okay but I think you forgot to think about this, Roanoke: Silver is also a well documented antimicrobial, which might also explain the effect it has as well as your own hypothesis, the Virus can be assumed to be everywhere in the hosts’ body, and it’s probably helping to compensate with the new form, so the silver may destroy or damage the virus, further interrupting the virus’s effects, which may be why it’s so deadly.

Fantastic film, one of the best werewolf films ever made. I always thought the transformation of becoming a werewolf must be fucking agony. I mean your bone and muscle mass is literally growing with horrific speed while you scream in pain. I think David's transformation scene in the equally excellent film, An American Werewolf in London, shows the sheer agony of changing form very well.

hi John:) One important thing Hollywood does not show/tell you, Once you turn, you can't turn back to Human form. I was told it's some kind of satanic, black magic ritual that only the most brave and dedicated satanists will attempt. The dedication part is never being Human again and of course, like you said, the crazy pain and and sheer agony is absolutely evil I heard It's just easier to turn into a vampire, it's a lot less painful. Vamps like to go out at night on hunts called "Tom cat prowl(like the song:) 2 of them lure you towards a certain place and the 3rd takes you out. They also do not leave bodies for police to find, they take their kills with them (had a run in with 2 of em) One of the few times i heard my guardian angels voice audibly, telling me to "go in the house:) It's a crazy world, John:) Christ bless :)

Megan was always a werewolf, she was taken in and turned by them years ago when she came to investigate evidence of werewolves in the area and discovered the family.
