How to Build a Plane in Besiege [Extended Edition] - Basic Simple Plane Tutorial Part 1/3

This is the extended edition of my old tutorial containing remastered scenes, more polished tutorial, and fixes for the audio issues.
I received so many request on how to build a plane, so here it is. A video guide on how to build simple plane (not the SimplePlanes game) on Besiege. By simple it will cover everything from building engine, designing wings and stabilizers, and how to controlling via ailerons and elevators.
This basic Simple Plane Tutorial will not covers the usage of mods, since you need to know how to build things properly without mods first.
All building footages are recorded in Besiege 0.42b
This is the first part of the video guide. Which only covers the engine, wings, and stabilizers, but enough for you to build a plane that fly.

I used my first recorded aircraft as an example in the video. It was simple enough but has exceptional stability and maneuverability so I think it is a good example.

On building the engine: I wasn't able to do the part where you replace the block with a 5th powered wheel, which left me with a lower max power (going faster would break the block). However, it seems that adding the fifth wheel, then replacing the block with a swivel joint and bracing it onto that 5th wheel fixes that problem.

yup, because swivel joint has more mass than wooden block, so it wont break. know what has even more mass? ballast. You can use it if you find swivel joint can no longer keep up with the speed

I like how you made your added graphics look like the in-game tutorials. Some of the game clips starting at 5:42 lag noticeably, so I would recommend playing at a low game speed, and speeding up the video in editing.

thanks for the feedback haha, i know well about that trick Ross it was footage from the old video, since it does not shows any building, I don't see the need to retake that scene so i just recycled it and cover the UIs.

I got besiege last night and spent 2 hours this morning making an extremely overcomplicated yet “working” (barely) airplane. It’s a monstrosity and now I realize how overcomplicated it is after watching this video. I wish I could upload a picture. It’s the shape of ‘T’ with one propeller for each wing powered by two medium powered gears each. Then on the belly I placed 6 umbrella looking spinners and going down the sides of the plane 8 balloons! 😂

I don’t know if it is something I am doing wrong, but stabilizers don’t seem to do much. Yes, they sort of stabilize the plane, but it just doesn’t seem to do it enough compared to real aerodynamics

When I change my plane's altitude, some of the parts(though they are connected before I changed the position) fall apart and breaks my airplane. It seems like a glitch...Is there some way to solve it or am I doing something wrong?

For people who are lazy, to bypass the intersection, quickly move your cursor away from where you want to place the block but at the same time try to place it, there... you bypassed it

Now you can even toggle bypass intersection. Just enable that in Advanced Tools

Hey I’m having trouble. I’m trying my best to copy what you are doing, but the separate parts keep wobbling even though I tried to brace them like you. I also can’t fly straight, and the braced swivels are restricting the whole aileron. Also idk if the wheels on the engine are right. Do all wheels in a single engine spin the same direction or do they need tuning. You work so fast in the video. Help!

the wheel should be configured to spin in the same direction but they will spin at different speed because the first wheel rotates the second wheel, which also rotates the next wheel, etc.. for the rest of the problem i need to see a picture of your build to know whats wrong

@@rustyspartan4258 you can try to enable the advanced tools: on the top right click on the gear icon, there's a toggle to enable advanced tools. with advanced tools, you can duplicate the wheels and move it closer by 0.5 points.

not really directly straight, but like a paper airplane. It stays in the air for a considerable time before crashing in the ground. You will need control surface on the next video to make it stays in the air forever.

Make sure the swivel joints connecting the wheels and the entire body is not facing backwards

I don't know what is happening but every time I accelerate the plane it goes up, and I have tried to counteract it with aerodynamic thrusters to the opposite side and it keeps going up. I don't know if I've done something wrong or if the developers have changed something because the 1.0 has come out

In minecraft, you start with the body of the plane or the landing gears, in roblox plane crazy, the cockpit, but for some reason, in besiege you start with the engine

When I add horizontal stabilizers, my plane just goes upside down, but if I take them off, it flies fine.

The angle of the rotor blades might be incorrect. Notice how they placed in the video, use R to rotate blocks and use F to flip placed blocks.

I believe you need to make a new version of this first part of the tutorial. The plane described does'nt generate enough thrust to get off the ground/ stay in the air. Neither does the double rotor plane.

this is the new version, tested on the latest version of besiege (0.42b) and worked pretty well. Unless you wanted the plane to stay in the air for a prolonged time, then you need the control surfaces.

you can enable advanced tools. click gear icon on topright screen, then enable advanced tools. some new tools will appear now when editing, so just turn on the ignore intersection tool then you can place any block anywhere.
