God affirms more of Who He is in these chapters: He remembers, He blesses, and He promises. And the object of His remembering, blessing, and promising is us-so even (or especially) in grief and sorrow, He hasn’t forgotten me, He hasn’t stopped blessing me, and He hasn’t removed His promise for me, that He’ll always be with me.

This is my second time through the Bible with TBR. I had always assumed that the flood was God's wrathful reaction to the wickedness of man. But i noticed in reading this time that there is no mention of wrath, anger, fury etc. Instead the only emotions mentioned are regret and sorrow. Therefore I think the purpose of the flood was to cleanse the earth from corruption and violence so that we could start over and slow down the degradation of sin. What has happened is continued sin that shows that mankind needs a Savior, which God himself provided in his Son, Jesus Christ!

I see how trustworthy God is with timing. He shut Noah and his family in the ark. God was the one who told them when they could leave the ark. He knew it was hard and they wanted out. But God had new and better for them as they waited on His timing.

This is the furthest I’ve ever gotten in genesis. I don’t think I’ve got past chapter one. These videos are so helpful I’m so glad people told me about this

We still see the rainbow 🌈 today. Whenever I see it my mind quickly go back to the covenant God made. I say to myself: Woah!! God wants to destroy the earth with water again but the rainbow 🌈 has reminded him of his covenant. God Character: He is a covenant keeping God.

Both Adam and Noah "took of the fruit", were naked and brought shame (sin) to the world. Both destroyed innocence. God clothed Adam, and the two godly sons covered Noah. In Eden and in Babylon, men wanted to be like gods.... and God scattered and removed them. Funny that humans never learn. Our godliness, goodness, glory can never come close to God's!

I am trying to follow the genealogy here… Gen 9:26 - Blessed be the Lord, God of Shem, Let Canaan be his servant, 27- May God enlarge Japheth, and let him dwell in the tents of Shem, and let Canaan be his servant. Canaan is the son of Ham. I wonder why Noah didn’t curse Ham. Jump to 11:26 we learn to that Abram is in the line of Shem. Abram is blessed. V31- Terah (Abram’s dad) takes his family into Canaan. Remember Canaan was cursed in vs 25. This is all interesting to me. Abram whose line was blessed is now in the land of Canaan who was cursed.
@rysh_c

Ok, I read on another forum that Noah likely cursed Canaan and not Ham because God had already blessed Ham so he wouldn’t/couldn’t go against what/who Got had already blessed.
@MarkJones-mm3br
@MarkJones-mm3br 8 ай бұрын
Practically-speaking, Ham's fruitfulness may have also been required to re-populate the Earth, and he had other descendants who were not cursed. It is not wrong for Canaan's descendents to supposedly be cursed for the sin of their father because, if they were righteous, God would have lifted the curse and blessed them. However, we know from later descriptions that the tribes in the land of Canaan were very evil (e.g. child sacrifices). I believe, sometimes, curses were also descriptive of events that happen as a result of human decisions, and God's part in the curse is He does not prevent humanity from taking that destructive course. I'm not saying this is what happened to the Canaanites but it could be. If that is the case for the Canaanites, it was also not that God punished the Cananites for Ham's sin, but that Ham's sinful disposition was taken on by Canaan and his descendants who chose to take a course that ultimately required their complete destruction at the hands of God's chosen people, the Israelites.

Honestly I am learning so much. I have tried to read through the Bible probably about 10 times and I always stop because I get confused but this time I’m way ahead of the days that I’m supposed to be doing it because it’s becoming so real and I’m learning that God really loves me and I can trust him just knowing that he’s with me all the time. This really is worth the time. If you take this course, you’ll never be disappointed.

Reflections from today's reading: It's so great to know that God always keeps His promises. There's been time when it's raining cats and dogs for a longtime and I might tell a friend or post on social media that we can be certain that the world will not be destroyed by a flood. We know this because of God's Covenant that He established by the sign of the rainbow. People in the world might think we're a little strange, but it's so reassuring to know that the promises of God are yes and amen. They are absolutely certain and true. I'm still intrigued by the curse on Noah's son Ham as I mentioned this about this time last year. I've yet to study it in-depth with other resources, but I hope to one day. My take is that Ham dishonored his father Noah in that moment and thus God allowed Noah's curse on Ham to stand. Apparently this curse was used to justify American Slavery, but that discussion would lead us down a whole new rabbit trail...too big for a KZbin blurb. Scriptures tell us: "He who the Son sets free is free indeed" (John 8:36). I've had two fathers on earth, a step-father and my natural father. Both have passed on, the later a couple of years ago. I still have one father, Father God. I believe whatever curses may have been passed down in my family line have been nullified by being adopted into the family of God.

If God knows everything, why does it says in Gen 8:1 He REMEMBERED Noah and the animals? Also, why God curses Canaan and not Ham? And what does "see nakedness" could mean? Any thoughts?

He didn’t forget about Noah because God doesn’t forget no one, I think He brought him back to the picture? Because in the previous chapter He was speaking abt the actual flood and then it started telling the narrative of how Noah sent the birds out of the ark to see if land was dry.

@kurtsmith6971 I had these same questions, I’ll probably do some digging tonight to see if I can find some explanations. I did read on a Reddit that the God confused the tongues (their language) to break down their pride and to scatter them amongst the earth. I don’t know if this is the right answer but it’s something to satisfy our curiosity.

@@kurtsmith6971 Hey Kurt, when I researched the scripture mentioning 120 years, what I picked up is that some people view that scripture as not living beyond 120 years while others state it means that there would be 120 years until the flood would take place.
