My mom and I started a little late today, not realizing there were videos to watch first. That got me so stressed because i felt like i was going to be further behind and would miss my deadline for finish day one. However, these videos have been so helpful, so supportive, so valuable. It really helped me to just ease my mind, have oeace and give myself grace. So im just watching the videos and will double up on the readings tomorrow.

Here are some important timestamps. Thanks for your wisdom, Tara-Leigh. 0:37 Mistake #1: Looking for myself in scripture. 3:31 Mistake #2: Disregarding context. 6:28 Mistake #3 Being tempted to draw conclusions before I’d read it all, which meant I didn’t have all the information. 10:45 “As you’re reading the Bible, hold your questions and your conclusions with an open hand and continue to ask God to guide you in wisdom and knowledge and understanding as you read each day.” - TLC 11:48 Summary of 3 important tips

I love where you said that asking how a particular portion of Scripture is applicable to modern-day life is like asking how your mom is applicable to modern-day life. 😀 That is a great way to remember to keep circling back around to what is being revealed about God and building a relationship with Him.

I am really struck by your comment that as we read the Bible, we need to ask God to help us grow in wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. I am not sure I have ever prayed for that before I open my Bible. I think that will be a very important one for me, tackling the Bible in a year from a different advantage point. It makes so much sense, and maybe it’s something everyone else automatically does, but that really hit home for me!

I just found this through my Mom. I can’t wait. I’ve started the D-Groups Bible studies. And added this on my Bible app. Can’t wait to fan into flame the fire that I seemed to neglect. Thankful for God’s mercy and love to want us back again if we’ve drifted. He restores, redeems, heals….why waste one drop of all that Jesus purchased for us? It is more prideful to accept shame and condemnation than repent and accept the forgiveness of God and walk in that

I believe that this was a prayer God has answered because I have been wanting to read the entire Bible and understand it. I know it’s not the 1st but it’s all good I’m ready to learn. I got my Bible, my print out of the yearly days, and a note book. Here we go🙏🏻♥️ Thank God and thank you for doing this for us.

I have been going through the year in the Bible by myself, I am in Joshua now, but am going to go back, the way you explain things makes so much sense. I think I have found myself at times to try to get through the "verse for the day", not just blowing through it necessarily, but also not asking myself questions about what I've read. Thank you for doing this.

Great tips. The Bible Recap is a great resource and maybe I will try it next year. I started to read the Bible and Catechism of Catholic Church October 2023, I did not have plan I just opened up page one and started reading and made almost all the mistakes you mention. So I started the Bible in a year (BIY) Podcast and the Catechism of the Catholic Church Podcast both with with Fr Mike Smitz and I finally started to make sense. I also read "How to read the Bible for what its worth" by George Fee and Doug Stuart. The book shows you hermeneutics and exegesis in depth. I recommend BEFORE you start reading the Bible.

How often I have said, "they know better (my adult children) they have been raised in the church"....I have taken wisdom and tried to turn it into a promise in an effort to save face, by not understanding the true meaning of the scripture, Proverbs 22:6. It is the wisdom of God and how ignorant of me to even remotely think that scripture should be applied any other way than intended. Thank you Lord, for opening my eyes.

I agree we shouldn't be reading the Bible to find ourselves or find a check list. But the Bible is absolutely applicable to our every day culture. Jesus is the same yesterday, today , and forever. Culture changes, social rules change, state/country laws change but the Word of God is constant and will always be applicable to our every day lives. No matter what part of the world or what culture we are in because we are always going to need God's Word to lead us.

Read it as a story about God? Read it in context. Questions: who wrote the book, why, when, what's the style of the writing. That matters what is said, eg wisdom book are with purpose of helping people walk in wisdom rather than a prophecy. ie-Get the inside spook. Hermeneutics- 1. scripture interprets scripture. Interpret unclear passage in light of the clear passage.' 2. Is the passage descriptive or prescriptive. Context is key. 3. Read it as it was written to be read.as you read hold your it with an open hand. 4. Ask God show you who he is,

In Gen 4:5. Why didn't God accept Cain's gift of crops?
@marshabraswell56812 жыл бұрын
His crops were beautiful and lush; but his heart wasn't right with God. We're left to figure out why. Perhaps it was a matter of puffed-up pride for Cain where Able brought his sacrifices came from an humble and contrite heart. We won't know here on earth.
@denisecollier55092 жыл бұрын
I believe it was because Able did not bring the best of his crops, not the first fruits but more of what was leftover. Where Caine brought the best of his flock and gave it as his sacrifice to God. Just my take, I am still learning like everyone else.❤
@rtroysmith2 жыл бұрын
@@denisecollier5509 Agreed. Able brought his first and best. Cain brought some of his leftovers. It was their attitudes that mattered to God. Even still, God offered Cain a chance to do what was right, but Cain’s heart was hardened and he chose not to and eventually murdered his brother. 😢

I don't understand why you support that evil company Patreon given how they make a lot if their money and the ungodly attitudes of their founders. I hope you can find an alternative so Christians do not feel they need to support their actions indirectly by paying them money in order to support you. It is not that difficult or expensive these days to build something that works effectively like Patreon using free, open source software. Please give this prayerful consideration. Thank you.
