This reading had so many God shots that I couldn’t decide on one, rather my God shot is the whole story. Seeing all the pain and humiliation that Jesus had to go through just in the buildup for a sacrifice shows so many things about him, but the most stand out to me was his unfathomable love. All these people who mocked him betrayed him, humiliated him, and ultimately killed him are the people he is sacrificing himself for, but also all of us, so beautiful, our God is so good. I pray that we can all live our lives following him. God bless all of you today ✝️💪.

How is my sin directly covered and taken away? Jesus is the Lamb of God, entering Jerusalem on lamb selection Sunday, then He’s nailed to the cross at the morning sacrifice and dying at the evening sacrifice, on the day that the Passover lambs are slain. He fulfills and completes the atonement for my sin, and God “tears His clothes” in grief by also removing the barrier (the Temple curtain) between us and Him in the Holy of Holies.

In the Garden of Gethsemene, Jesus’ “soul is crushed with grief” (Matt 26:38). “Gethsemene” means “oil press,” and Jesus is pressed and crushed, His soul being poured out, like oil that anoints His sacramental death. He isn’t crushed with fear, dread, or futility, but grief. He knows the sorrow of loss, how it embeds deeply in our souls and stops us from moving. And He has a few responses: He falls prone, He prays, He submits to God’s will, and He asks for support from His friends. Importantly, His grief doesn’t end in death, but it passes through it on its way to Life. In Revelation, we’ll see Him “make all things new,” putting death to death and changing grief to Life.

I was looking towards the reading for the next few days and dreading having to read 4 accounts of Jesus's suffering and death. I'm just dreading the facts in writing, I can only imagine how much Jesus was dreading His future of suffering and dieing for us.

I have heard that Jesus died on a Thursday for several years now. It does make sense since he was in the grave for 3 days. Praise God for His broken body and blood to save a sinner like me, so I could ask Him to come into my life and save me from all my sins.

These passages today make my heart ache and break. To know that Jesus knew who His betrayer was, yet that person faked it to everyone around them. I'm sure the disciples were shocked when they saw Judas come with the men and take him away. I'm sure they were fearful for their own lives and maybe even wondered what Judas would say/do to them as followers. It hurts to be betrayed by people you think you can trust. Such a human flaw, but in this case, absolutely necessary for our redemption story. God knew what He was doing all along and I love how TLC points out that we needed Judas and his betraying heart. I also feel for Peter. He never believed he could betray the Man he loved so much. The thought of it made him angry. How many times have I told God I wouldn't deny Him yet I ignored the Holy Spirit's prompting or I acted in my own fleshly desires or fears? Then I hear the rooster crow (which isn't a rooster but something that makes me go, "Oh no!") and I realize what I have done. It makes me weep as it made Peter weep. I'm so grateful that Jesus was able to fulfill God's redemptive plan for my sinful heart. I'm so blessed to be able to remember Him and as His follower paricipate in the remeberence and partaking of communion. There's no magic in it but just the pause to remember all He has done for me. By His blood our sins are covered and by His death our lives are spared, and by His provision I confidently know that He's where the joy is. Have a blessed weekend. I have one more thing. As is mentioned in Luke 6, we must remember to love our enemies and pray for those who hate us. I can only imagine Jesus praying for Judas and all of the confused people who just didn't take the time to understand His well meaning, good, life giving intentions. Sometimes people are too caught up in their own junk to realize that others peoples intentions aren't meant to he hurtful. Instead of retaliating with anger and hatred, its always best to pray for their hearts, eyes, and ears to be open to the truth. The enemy is always at work trying to divide people and turn everyone against each other. In these moments, I encourage us all, especially myself, to turn it over to Him in prayer. It may not be my first thought, but I pray one day it will be my natural reflex. I'm thankful for His grace when I mess that up. ❤❤

In my church tradition we have what we call Eucharistic visitors, requiring some training and discernment. Yesterday I was blessed to be able to deliver Eucharist to a parishioner in a local hospital. As I was getting everything ready, we heard on the intercom that lunch trays were ready to be delivered. I asked him if he’d like for me to wait. His response:”No the food you are bringing me with the Eucharist is far more important!” Wow!

Mark 14:36 ESV "And he said, 'Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.'" Our Great High Priest, Jesus Christ, came to die for our sins. And, it was a brutal death. Even though He knew this was the Father's will, Jesus still prayed that this be taken away from Him. There are things that we will go through that we wished we didn't have to, but this reminds me that even though there will be trials and temptation, the Lord will strengthen us to bear through it. Praise His holy name! Thank You, Lord, for providing the perfect sacrifice in Jesus.

It’s speculated by biblical scholars that it’s John Mark (author of Gospel Mark as it’s only gospel that mentions it) but it’s just that a speculation as the Bible provides no more details on who it was.

I loved the explanation about Jesus’s death possibly being on a Thursday. It’s so human how we all just stack hands on one theory that may not be the truth sometimes. I always would prefer to know the different possible explanations and (like TLC always says!) hold them with an open hand if they are not explicit in Scripture.

Every time I read this and the other accounts of Jesus' not subtle hinting at His betrayer, I have to wonder, don't the others see and hear?! They're so worried it's them but then what? They're so relieved it's not that they don't care who it is and go about their meal? Or He hides it from them but at this point Jesus and Judas understand each other? Also wondering - do you (anyone) believe that Judas always meant to betray Jesus or that his heart was hardened at some point (when the girl poured oil on Him) and he snapped and betrayed Jesus? I think that if he was inherently evil he wouldn't have ended the way he did. Just me?

Thank you for the video. Saying “we see that God’s will always comes to pass” sounds fairly deterministic, it might be more careful to say something such as God works all things or uses all things that happen to accomplish His purposes (whether here on earth in time or in the end restoration, or both)

General question... When did days begin to start at 12_am then if originally they started in the evening?
@astrongmama Жыл бұрын
The verses say it was on the day of unleavened bread. That seems to indicate it wasn't on one of the previous days. I think we assume a lot by saying they didn't eat lamb because the Scripture doesn't tell it specifically. I suppose I've always thought they did eat the lamb, but that part of the meal wasn't mentioned because it wasn't noteworthy. Also, the new Testament says he arose "on the third day." We know he arose on Sunday. Sunday is only the third day when Friday is the first day. If he had been crucified on Wednesday, the third day is Friday. If he had been crucified on Thursday, the third day is Saturday. The theory of Wednesday or Thursday crucifixion creates as many issues as it solves.
