I’m pretty sure those aren’t steelhead unless it’s spring, fall or winter. The summer run are called Skamania, and they’re a special breed from out west that survive well in warm water. They’re very silvery fish with little color. I don’t think they’re stocked in the UP, but you could check the dnr stocking reports. Regardless though beautiful trout. I had some great fishing in the UP last summer and fall. I know a brookie stream that is unparalleled to any other stream I’ve ever fished in the UP! Tight Lines!

@Evan S. Then maybe they were fat resident rainbows! That would be so cool. Brookie streams!!!! That sounds legitimate!

Very good video my friend, won’t be long and our bass will make it back into the rivers here in Western NC mountains.

@John Porter I might have to make a road trip to get away from this nasty winter conditions to get at some bass elsewhere in the states. It was -25 windchill here today .. :(

@@HaightsWanderings come on down, we been catching the fire out of jumbo yellow perch from the raft lately. Rivers are blown out this week due to rain but I may sneak a day in on a small lake just to keep fishing

@@HaightsWanderings what are you using for a anchor? I am running two different Tornados, depending on what river I am running. I have a 15 pound and 34 pound.
@HaightsWanderings
@HaightsWanderings Жыл бұрын
@John Porter I have a 15 lb custom Tornado that I run and also a 20-25lb pyramid that I run if I need to stop on a dime. I prefer the 15 but there are some spots that I can't get it to hold me at.

@@HaightsWanderings my rivers here are tailwaters from dams so I use my heavy anchor on them as sometimes they release outside of their scheduled times. My free floating rivers I use my 15 pound as it’s slow moving and not to deep.

You proved that having bananas on the boat does not affect the fishing. But I will still never have them on my boat because, well...I just hate bananas.

Great video, we have similar multi- species fishing on the Muskegon. What month did you film this, dies this river flow into which Great lake?
@HaightsWanderings
@HaightsWanderings Жыл бұрын
@Eric Richards Honestly I don't know what month it was. Possibly June, July, or August. Probably mid-summer ish. And, yes, it eventually does flow into one of the lakes.

I was curious because the foliage looked pretty green to still have dropkick steelhead in system, they could possibly be resident 'bows, pretty cool excursion, I look forward to part 2.

@Eric Richards I don't know enough about steelhead to say for sure. I was very happy to find them though. It was definitely mid summer ish. I think those trout can be found in there year round - the water temps were pretty cool if I remember right.

We have a summer run of "steelhead" in some of our cooler systems aka " skamania" those trout you caught look kinda like fresh steelies. Interesting, either way, very cool bonus.

@Eric Richards Ah, I have heard of skamania but I didn't know what the specifics were.

Sick video! This river looks awesome and those Smallmouth are amazing! I know on the rivers I fish in Indiana, most of the land around it is private, and if you want to camp, you have to find an island. Was this river in a national forest where you could camp anywhere?
@HaightsWanderings
@HaightsWanderings Жыл бұрын
@Jonah Switzer I think we were on state land. I used Onx to map where I could and couldn't camp. Although it could also be in national forest - I don't remember back to the trip well enough. Sorry!
