Great video, brother and tremendous smallie action! The UP is definitely on my bucket list for bass and pike.

Rainbow, defined fork in the tail. Or technically oncorhynchus mykiss. A steelhead is the same fish but their tails becme square snd they get "chrome" eith spots only on the upper half of thr body but the tail will remain fully spotted. A rainbow will spend upwards of 3 years in the freshwater sytem where evntuslly they'll find their way to where salt water and fresh water mix together and spend enough time to adapt to salt conditions where they get massive and then they return ti their original streams where they were born and breed there again creating that cycle that keads to a steelhead smolt.

Hey man, good video. Random question: Where did you get your license sign that hangs off the frame of the boat? That one looks like it might have been state issued? We aren't required state tags on rafts here, but I want something similar I can use for branding our business. Looking for somebody that can make a custom print on whatever material those are made out of...
@HaightsWanderings2 ай бұрын
@user-ct2gc4cu3b I actually got something off Amazon. Some placard that I then attached marine grade lettering. There is a standard that is used on watercraft that Amazon has. I currently don't know the exact stuff - but it is a peal and stick decal that works very nicely!

I believe the red lure you showed us is the Cannonball Jr. Yes, there is a full size Cannonball that's about twice the size- and Muskies eat em. The Specific Lures I referred to (Dr Evil and Fat Bastard) are much smaller and better suited for the water you fish. There is also one called the Lil Basstard that is just a few inches long and designed for Smallmouth and Multi-species. I think they would (all 3) work well in your rivers
@HaightsWanderings4 ай бұрын
I use the Lil Basstard frequently. I do like that one!

Merry Christmas. I remember spearing whitefish in Munising Bay on Christmas Eve 1976. It was cold and ice was forming. We had to move the scree aside with the spear so we could see the fish. We used a Coleman lantern and I rowed the boat backwards. Sometimes I would row all night. There are some really good waterproof lights and trolling motors available now. I can't imagine how much better that would be. My wife loved whitefish and we went whenever the wind was down. I hope you had calm water and schools of fish. That would be an exciting episode.
@HaightsWanderings4 ай бұрын
@jimfromm3981 It was DEAD still wind and there were some small schools of fish. I speared three myself. It was a very interesting experience.

@HaightsWanderings4 ай бұрын
@richardmeyer4683 I stopped using fluorocarbon leaders after I had a 100 LB leader get bitten through by a 26-30 inch musky. I watched it happen right in front of the boat. I realized that day that I'd use metal only after that.
