Brought tears. Stay safe and may God be with you. This is the best video that I have seen of the total destruction. Lived in South Ft Myers for 12 years. It is hard to believe that everything is basically gone. Now I am thankful that I had to sell in my place due to illness in 2016.

My sister and I were in Florida shortly after hurricane Irma hit and I saw a lot of damage to homes and businesses inland where we were but what we saw was nothing compared to the devastation you have shown here. So sorry for what your family is going through. I know you lost some treasured memories but thank goodness your parents are safe and healthy. Material things can be replaced but people can’t be. God bless you both and your family. Praying for you all and everyone who has suffered the horrible consequence of this hurricane. Stay safe. 🥰

You guys, I’m totally crying watching this. It’s completely heartbreaking to watch all your memories and special, cherished things be taken away in an instant. The silver lining is that you are all safe and all the good folks that are helping clean up and put lives back together. It’s important to not take anything for granted. Everyday is a gift. And, you are so right Drew, I live in Northern California earthquake and fire country. We always have to think about keeping a to go box of important documents and we have digitized most of our photos so we can throw the jump drives and hard drives into a box if we need to go quickly. These are the times we live in now. You have to always be prepared. 🙏🏼

I can't imagine how you feel looking at the mementos of your life nearly totally destroyed. I hope you and your parents can recover from this without too much mental scaring. What was lost were "things", what was saved were loved ones - damaged but not broken. I'm a long-time follower and am feeling your grief but, you have each other and will make it thru this stronger and more resilient at whatever life throws your way. Peace and Love!

I drove through hurricane Michael's damage 7 months after it came through the gulf, and there was unreal destruction still around. I cannot imagine what it was like when it happened because 7 months later, it made me sad but happy to see all the results and rebuilding that took place. Crazy to see all the empty lots where homes used to be. We spoke with fishermen who told and showed us some crazy damage stories from Michael!

The things I saved as keepsakes, travel memories, some gone and others I will keep. I feel blessed having this choice. The way you guys lost these touchable memories is abdrupt and it takes time to sorta mourn, part of the process it is. The best will stay in our hearts, untouchable

My heart is broken. I have family in Ft Myers and grew up spending a couple of weeks each summer with them, playing almost every day on the beach. I have always considered Ft Myers my second home. I watched so many videos of the devastation left by Ian during and after the storm and have cried so hard. My cousin worked as a hair stylist on the beach - they got out in time but lost absolutely everything in their shop, but thankfully their house only sustained minor damage. Prayers to all, and prayers for everyone helping with cleanup.

So many memories. Been through what you're going through, oddly enough here in the northeast when Hurricane Bob hit us bad. I live on a river that feeds out to Buzzards Bay. Tide was high, I'm no more than 100 yards from the river, my house is built up 14ft. Flooded and lost every single thing that we kept under the house, never dreaming we'd get hit with a hurricane. Photos are the worse when you lose them. No water got into the house, we were spared that nightmare. So i am right there with you looking at what was and now, as Harry Styles says 'As it was"......new photos, new memories, new bonds made, and the tribe becomes a whole lot closer and wiser. Life. Brittany, you were right, needed some soothing music right about then, good call. Stay well, that mold is brutal even when you can't see it, and isn't it ironic how Lucky Blue saved the day and you two :) Love from Massachusetts

We lost our home to fire in the spring. So many similarities. We raised our kids in the house...Like y'all it is a struggle to reconcile what IS with what was. BUT, no one was hurt, we salvaged a lot of stuff and we can replace our home with a smaller, more manageable space. Many blessings despite the hardness of losing so much. And we didn't lose any of the most important stuff.

You can take pictures of your pictures and scan them in to computer. Then give to digital photo restorer. My son, who has a computer graphics degree, use to restore a number of our parents and grandparents old photos that had been damaged. He was able to use the surviving parts to copy and fill in some of the missing areas and then used a bit of artistic imagery to create other parts. They turned out pretty good and we still had pictures of ancestors and special memories.

My daughter lives in Sarasota for a non-profit and she tells me so many heart-breaking stories. Our churches have sent support both in-person and monetary. Our prayers will never stop for Floridians. I wanted to recommend to you since you shared so many of your childhood treasures have water damage; corrosion from the seawater; check into companies that specialize in disaster refurbishing. I lost everything in an apartment fire just 9 years ago. I had very, very little insurance unfortunately so I didn't have the money to pay for the services. It is amazing the processes they can take photos, books, keepsakes; and restore (at least better than there are at the moment). Only check into the companies that specialize in these things because a typical refurbishing company (in my case, furniture, clothing was a total nightmare for me; they stole things like my tools and sent clothing to the cleaners that I told them specifically not to; only to return back to me with stains and charged me for the cleaning). I did keep my Bible and 3 of my grandfather's law books that I am hoping to check into if these items can be refurbished/preserved. It may be too late for me but certainly not for you. Sending you big hugs to all of your family. Make sure you take care of yourselves as you well know, trauma is very real. Connie

Thank you Connie. We have put a lot of elbow grease into cleaning what we can ourselves. Something we able to be saved and others not so much. We estimate we lost 85% of everything on that bottom floor. Most items that were paper, metal, cloth or electronic had to go. That's amazing you were able to persevere those family items.

I found your channel immediately post-Ian and the video you first posted of your visit a week before the storm v the aftermath. It was breathtaking. Been following you since! My adopted family runs the Beach Baptist Church, which as you saw, was gutted! They live on Connecticut St right behind the church and rode out the storm. I was SO HAPPY to receive their text the evening of 9/28 saying they were high and dry. I lived with them back in 2012 and was an island resident 2011-14. Back then, everyone talked about Hurricane Charley, how 'The Reef' was gone and Captiva was cut into 3. This was SO MUCH WORSE! I remember eating Bruce's Meatloaf at The Surf Club and going for after-dinner drinks across the street at The Mermaid, owned by his sister. I remember playing with my band at The Cottage every Sunday night for a couple of seasons. There's barely a trace it was ever there. My old beach access sat next to the Sandpiper (Dakota St). The Lahaina Inn on the other side was wiped from the beach, a few of the wooden cottages slammed into houses across Estero. My girls' busstop in front of the car wash near there--completely leveled! The place is almost unrecognizable. Thanks for sharing your journey. Praying for FMB. #FMBStrong

We are happy you found our channel! So glad you received their text to know that they were ok that evening. This was unimaginable to so many on the island. Old timers said that 30-40 inches of water was the most they have every seen in their entire lives. To think many of these establishments that you mentioned are not there anymore is truly a loss. Many place you visited and know so well. We will be sharing more about the cleanup in the next few episodes. 🙏

I liked (this video) but NOT because I like ....the pain Ian has put on your parents and their beautiful community....it was a hard watch to be sincere ( empathy is a good trait....I would not want to go through such trauma but having said that, Drew's best friend shows you.....true colours in a time of need!! (driving all the way from Michigan....Kudos) When I saw Drew's hockey photos....I had a flashback from when you guys were in California meeting Max and Lee & occy.....Drew was playing roller hockey .....LOVED that episode!!! Cheers...guys, Stay safe....and take one breathe at a time!!! Warmest of regards, 1000 islands Ontario

We had a total loss fire at my parents home (family cottage) 7 years ago. The only thing that we were able to save was their wedding photos. They had passed away a number of years before so this was such a blessing.

Wow! What a special thing that you were able to grab those and save them. My mom talks about in an upcoming episode. "What you would grab"

@@Mrandmrsadventure it does teach us to realize that things are just things. People are important but things are just that. It is so sad watching Drew’s parents going through that tragedy.

You mentioned the Greek Restaurant, my friend and past co-worker's family owned it. Their father started the restaurant years ago. The father passed several years ago so he did not have to see the destruction. God Bless
