Domi was more of a priority because he was cheaper than bert. Stolarz was who i wanted since early last season so im happy with the free agent frenzy results.

I came for the no-state tax discussion. It's an issue now, but it is slowly growing into a bigger issue and could be a long term serious detriment to the the product on the ice for the league in a few years when fans tune out due to perceived imbalance.
@DonaldMains4 ай бұрын
I don’t think the league can, or should, do anything about the tax imbalance. Hockey results, for Canadians at least, is just the most visible manifestation of sometimes missguided tax policy. In a way it’s a good thing for it focuses the public attention on the fact that there is a very real inflection point where the populist talk of “soaking the rich” manifests itself into actual things that the average Joe can see and appreciate. Like how come Montreal can never attract high level UFA talent?
@joshuatinney47124 ай бұрын
for a league that pushed so hard to level the playing field (hard cap) and eliminate any sort of advantage or cap manipulation (length of deals/Kovalchuk deal) in the name of parity, this seems like something the NHL should be all over...

The other aspect of where players prefer to play concerns sunlight. Some people really need sunlight infusion on an ongoing basis. Mood issues. Overall energies.

Tavares might have to go. You cant get rid of the three amazingly talented players in Matthews, Nylander, and Marner. With Tavares making that amount of money they would most likely have to retain money weather that being 25 percent take or give. (2.75 million.) That makes Tavares tradable and you can go get another vet, or at least a decent player, to fill in Bertuzzi's spot in the second line. That also allows you to loosen the cap situation, and you can trade some third liners for better third liners. Also, trade some players to dump cap becasue Easton Cowan will come play for us this year.

Marner will never win a Cup unless it is when he is 36 years old and on the 3rd line somewhere.
@disinformationworld93784 ай бұрын
Tavares will be extremely difficult to bring back after next year. The cap space will be limited. And if Marner gets a small raise, that won’t help either. Tavares is not getting a Stamkos like deal at around 8 million with the Leafs. Unless he wants to come back with a team friendly deal he’s not back. Quite frankly, he’s had 7 years here and has not made a significant difference in post season up to now. Time to move on. His best years are in the rear view mirror. I think 3 points in post season this year.

Let's compare Tanev with TJ Brodie, which has 1 goal in over 100 games but was getting $5.5 Million, who didn't check, fight or defend the goalie!!! Now you can see just how much Tanev is worth, every penny he is paid!!!

Tampa's hard decision is to part with Stamkos...Captain, two-time Champion... Toronto's hard decision...Let's talk to Jankrok, Kampf...WHAT? There are two hard decisions/conversations that Toronto has to have. We all know what they are. Why this "senior" management team is allowed to sidestep hard conversations when in real life, every other management team from mom & pop shops to major corporations have to have these conversations everyday?

Making Marner an offer unless it is to trade him is an utter embarrassment. It would reinforce, if the last nearly 60 years haven't; that this franchise is meant for losers. Other nations in the U.S make moves all the time, it's a business and they want to win. Leafs are an extension of the government, bloated, entitled and never concerned with doing the best job they can.
@johnsummerhill83234 ай бұрын
I think Matthews should go as well. He has less playoff points than Marner and couldn't even play all 7 playoff games as well. Mind you, they won the two games he missed. Interesting.

Running this back is idiocy. Heck, might as well resign both Tavares and Marner at say 14 mil each? No worries about cap, the team can just play without a goalie.

Who is the 1srt pair defense to pair with Rielly ? Tanev is too old to play more minutes. This was another pathetic off season , this team will be destroyed by BOS in 1st round again guaranteed! Who has been added that will score in playoffs ? That is why we were knocked out of the playoffs every year. This is the worst year yet of addressing the problem and Shanahan still has a job, how do you apply for a GM job?

tanev isnt very good he is 34 and really slow, he played in front of one a top 5 goalies in the league and continued to fail, tanev has no leadership qualities no winning pedigree but the leafs paid him 4.5 million , no team in the nhl was signing domi , you all forget he has played on 10 teams already more wasted money. oel looked great protected in florida, i dont see the leafs being very competitive in the playoffs maybe not even a playoff team
