Gretzky was retired by the time I started watching hockey. Lemieux was still very good, but past his prime. I was only talking about players that I've seen while they were playing.

Bossy gets overrated and didn't have to face any regression like Gretzky did over 20 seasons. He also played in hockey's highest scoring era with the worst goalie save percentages ever seen in the 1980s.

I’m from northern Utah , So officially I have a bias now obviously. But I grew up a child of the 90’s… gigantic Penguins Fan during the early 1990’s. I got a Blackhawks Jersey from”Santa”… I would makesure to watch the hockey highlights on ESPN before waking to Elementary. So I Love the game… And I’ll be honest, I had no idea who this McDavid Fella was until the all-star game this year, and this Utah acquiring Phoenix coyotes… my interest peaked again. And than the playoff’s started, and that goal he had VS Dallas..you know that goal I’m talking about… watching the game live, and seeing him do that edge work through 3-4 stars players, my Jaw Dropped! @@Hartllx I agree with you absolutely. However there are certain players that always elevate in the most important game of the season. Like Sidney Crosby scoring the Golden Goal. Or the opposite end of the spectrum Jumbo Joe Thornton failing to score in most elimination games of his career. McDavid has always been big in game 7s (and usually is so good the series doesn't get to a game 7) so you can't really knock him but he did have a tough games 1-3 of the Final last year and didn't score in game 7. If we are talking about the greatest of the greats and comparing them I do believe a championship can elevate you above another player with similar great stats. Not to discredit McDavid. I believe he deserved the Conn Smythe hands down last season. I'm not really sure how exactly I feel. Perhaps we should save the debate on where McDavid rests in the GOAT debate after his fantastic career is over. He's still going to achieve a lot.

Bad back, staph infection in his hip, cancer, severe anemia, broken hand in a cast, Mario still dominated. Mario took three seasons off, then stepped on the ice and recorded 3 points and established himself as the best in the league, again. Sid and Connor are truly great, but Mario is the best.
