That was amazing watching this again, as the commentator said, it was early days. Luna Rosa would meet the defenders in the final of the America's Cup and in that final after 6 races it was all tied up 3 all. So their boat was improved and got faster. But what they could do, ETNZ could do as well and eventually would run out winners, and successfully defend the cup. Congratulation Luna Rosa for making that final and giving yourself a chance to challenge for the cup, and that was not onesided or easy, going through the challenger rounds.

Amazing Amazing Amazing! I've been following the Americas Cup since Capt Courageous Turner in 1977. Remember Keel Gate in 83. I have posters from each of the American challenging teams in 1987. I wasnt to happy with the "formula" catamarans. Glad they are using monohulls again and look at what they discovered!!! Good job mates. 75 foot sailboat cruising at 50 mph.... DAMN!!!
@EricShreve4 жыл бұрын
As fast and cool as these "boats" are, I wish they would go back to the old yachts. Half the fun for me was watching they guys run back and forth on the deck as the different sails went up and down and the tacking and such happened. It just feels like a guy driving a fast boat now. I know the guys on the boats are working very hard and there is MUCH more to it than that, but that's kinda what it feels like to watch.
@jamesfrost74654 жыл бұрын
@@EricShreve Hoy mate, Yes, I agree. The mistakes made in fouling a sail on a bad set. Chasing each other in tacking duels, downwind legs blocking the wind with Spinnakers. Yes...... but now look! Same dance in the pre-start, good tacking duels up wind and balls out running downwind while cruising at 50 plus mph!!! Yes, we're getting old and things are changing before our very eyes but... 50+ MPH!!! The J yachts of the 30's the 12 meters of the 2nd half of the 20th century, the Catamarans at the turn of the century and now into the beginning of the 21st century with 75 foot monohulls cruising 50+ mph!!! I use to crew aboard a 70 foot Cutter and I cant imagine that length of hull......... AT 50+MPH!!! Happy New Year mate.

@@wallyman292 Captain also has the right to scream obscenities at his crew for not taking the foresail down in time making sure his vessel is within earshot of the yacht overtaking him because he REFUSED to change to a smaller foresail even though he WAS first and would have finished first had his vessel not been blown flat and completely out of control by what everybody but himself saw but HE thought his boat would stand up to.....
