it still baffles me how fast they grow up, from first day being a tiny pink bean to being suffecient happy hamster in just two weeks. I just love that toddler phase where mom tries her best to keep them at home but they are adventurous and even tho still half blind they run from the nest to roam the area and their big heads still cant be kept high and they shiver on those weak legs and wheak and are just so adorable

From the constant nutrition and safety to the creative enclosures, these hams were really given the best upbringing. Its nice to see a mom hamster raise and protect her baby's instead of just eating them like mine always did when I was a child. I'm aware stress to the mother is a huge factor, which I'm sure we could have mitigated better. But yeah, was a pretty gnarly life lesson to a 7 y/o.

I once had a hamster named Tubby and I always tell this story, even though nobody gives a damn, because I'm so proud of it: I bought him a mansion of a cage with all kinds of tunnels and extensions, gave him the best food (actual fruits and stuff, not that cheap hamster food). I even left one of his tunnels open so he could climb out and explore my bedroom every night while I slept. It made me happy to hear his little noises. I treated him so well, that even when he escaped a few times, he always returned 2-3 days later, in the hallway for me to pick him up and lead him back to his cage. RIP Tubby
