I am sure I am not the only Combat Veteran, so maybe some can relate. From the aspect of a veteran I have a lot of issues I am dealing with, and I honestly feel that learning to play the guitar will be therapeutic for me. I am an older man who has tried to play guitar before. The first 2 times were to become closer with my father as a child, and then something to share with my son. Both times were uneventful as I wasn't taken seriously the first attempt, my son lost interest in the second. This time it is for me and me only. I want to express my emotions and feelings that I can't seem to talk about, through the guitar. I know I have said a lot, but I am really hoping to make sense of my life through the guitar, and if it gives me experiences with others who play or might one day want to hear what I have to say, well that would be bonus.

Billy My advice to you is to simply learn how to tune your guitar. That's all you need...and then just fool around...play along with the music you love...even if youre playing one string. Everyone is different and everyone plays guitar differently, but guitar lessons train people to be the same. Avoid lessons like the plague. Ive been playing guitar my way since 1969.

@millsmills14869 ай бұрын
I agree less talk more play! I’ve had guitar lessons where my teacher talks the whole time, and we don’t play a single note, that always felt like a waste of money to me. When I teach I try to minimize talking and spend more time playing. I would recommend not journaling the whole time you practice, but to actually practice, set goals, and go for it!

Hello everyone. I am a play by ear player from the 60's. Over the years I lost interest because of family loss's in my case it was 2 children. I wasn't fun anymore! Many times I would grab one and strum some notes and put it down. After seeing this video he said everything I've been feeling as to why I quit! Now that I'm retired and have so much time to really apply my self, and a new wife who supports me, and wants to learn to. I am here to start over again. I've always had music in my life, but took a major change from Rock to Finger style. My uncle was good friends with Tommy Emanuel, until his death about 5 years ago! He said it took him 10 years to lean the song Windy and Warm! So Tommy being the person he is, was able to become a friend and mentor him and invite him to Tenn to the July jams. Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, and many many more of their friends every summer. Another good friend he made was the lead guitar player for the Ventures. So I've always had a chance to advance but the music had died in me! Music is love from the heart, and fun to play, to put into expression of your self. So in the end, I needed this to jump start my affection and love for the guitar, I have Hi Hopes doing this!!!!

When i first started playing guitar AI played at my friends birthday party with another friend singing a few songs while I play. When I was up there playing for a small group of people I seen them singing along and smiling. That was the moment that kept me playing all of these years. That was in 2006

Surf Wyoming is a joke because Wyoming land locked.... plus great stuff for the whole world family of us guitar playing folk. Im from nj and frequently traveled between m Jersey and New York by bus i happened to come across your KZbin feed and it actually grabbed my full attention as I am extremely ADHD and quick to jump from video to video.... any way i love what your doing and how your doing it brother. Keep up the awesome job ur doing and please continue to work for the beginner all the way to a seasoned professional like Myself. Never heard of this approach to guitar as im classically trained and collage educated w many years of giving lessens from the younger generation of players as young as 5 to the adult who used to play and perform in a band and has, over the years, become discontented from playing trying to recapture their old glory days before life hit them in the face... lol. Ok keep it up as your are inspecting so many people to continue to work and love to play music!!!!!!

I first started playing guitar when I was 9 or 10. My father had a couple bands and played nigerian highlife of which his songs are on KZbin. I am now in my sixties and have time on my hands to pick up where I left off the guitar. I did play guitar briefly in my teens and had a stint in a jazz funk band but lost interest as I was not interested until I heard someone play a saxaphone. I was hooked on the sax. I have a saxaphone now but life style children and grandkids have taken up pretty much all my time, so here I am listening to tony and getting inspired from a guitar teacher all over again. Thank you Tony.☕

Just had an aha moment while going thru this exercise. As our world has grown through technologies; sound travel, sound recording, and now digital, we have lost live. Even now I’m listening to a recording. In history there was only live performance. There’s an almost spiritual maybe ethereal aspect in a live performance for the listener and performer.

Hi there. George from Hellas (Europe) here. New viewer; new sub. First thing first: thank you (and it is not enough). I’m 52. Although music melts me down ever since forever, I never, ever, in my miserable life (when it comes to pursuing things) had the grit to dive into learning music and organ playing. Never! And it’s a real shame. And this is an understatement. Now... friends of ours had gifted an acoustic guitar to my daughter some six years ago and unfortunately the youngster never even touched it... it stood there in a corner of her room collecting dust... Another shame... So, last Friday, I had an epiphany... I gently grabbed the guitar, downloaded a free tuning app and tuned the darn thing... and then I started watching “beginners’ ’” vids in a frenzy... strumming basic chords and whispering lyrics... I used a piece of folded carton as a pic... three days later, my fingers hurt at the pressure points but I do not care... it is amazing how easier I can strum a couple of chords today compared to my despair last Friday... One KZbin channel led to another and today I came across yours. Plain awesome! I have started your basic exercise with four fingers all the way from E to e string and back again... slowly. Guys, I feel reborn! Just imagine how my heart races! At the age of 52, I want to start it and take it as far as I can. And you, gents, will have my eternal appreciation! Cheers! NB: I bought a medium pick today!

The Borderlands of South Texas (Edinburg) just 20 miles north of the U.S. / Mexico border. I may be arriving late, but I'm glad I found the channel. I've been playing around with guitar for 30 years or so, but went through long stretches where the guitar just sat in the case and I never touched it. I've started to get back into it regularly thanks to the pandemic (and ending a long-term relationship). What better way to woo women than serenading them? LOL Truth be told, I'm playing for me. Now that I'm over 50, I'm eager to record myself on video so that my kids will have it when I'm no longer on this earth (not that I'm planning to leave any time soon).

I look forward to doing this ten day challenge once I have gotten over this flu. While I like an academic approach to music it is not THE way to learn by any means and should never be the ultimate focus. Music is a lot like learning a language; you can learn it academically but it only helps so much, you need to talk with people. Actually applying everything you learn, playing music, making music, and especially connecting with others is what it is all about. Enjoying what you do is key, as is being open to what you can learn from others. Enjoy your personal journey, and find others you can meet up with on the road.

Started learning a few weeks ago and I totally relate to how everyone has advice on what you should do. Worst advice I received was that I shouldn't waste my money on a $300 guitar, but instead spend $1,000 or more for better quality. I disagree. I'm learning for me, and to have fun. I buy based on my budget first, then feel of the guitar, and finally sound. I appreciate your teaching style!
