📖 Follow along with the official Bible in a Year Reading Plan: tinyurl.com/yj...
Fr. Mike reads Genesis 20-21, Job 9-10, and Proverbs 2:6-8 and shows us how we can strive for holiness, even in the midst of sin and suffering.
We hear everyday from our community how The Bible in a Year helps to capture hearts and souls for Christ. While we’re happy to make it free to our audience, it’s not free to create! It takes a significant investment to produce the podcast and distribute it free-of-cost to the public. You can make a gift of financial support to help defray these costs and enable us to keep bringing evangelizing digital media to all those searching for God: tinyurl.com/ye... Thank you, Lord for the times you intervened so that I would not fall into sin. If ever you allowed me to fail in my resolve to do Your Will, thank You for making up for my failures and shortcoming and for not giving up on me. Let me learn from Job how to relate with You when I do not understand the pain and suffering You allow me to experience. May I hold on to the fact that You know best for whom You love, and may I never doubt Your infinite, unconditional, and relentless love for me.

Thank you so much Father for doing this. I can't imagine the patience & the loyalty it has taken These stories are the reason I could never pass page 1 reading the Bible. It was so scary to me. I know now I need something, some understanding. It's no less scary and thinking it's very possible all my answers are right here in 9 & 10.

When I lost my closest friend to a sudden accident, I was drawn to reading the book of Job. I felt like everything I had was taken away. I think there are times that we all can relate to Job’s story. It’s just as real today and it never fails to make me cry. No matter the circumstances, we must continue to pray and know that God hears us and is near.

Day 10 2024. Abraham kicks out Hagar & Ishmael again this time for good. The Angel of the Lord saves them & Ishmael grows up in the wilderness to eventually become a great nation & enemy to the descendants of his brother, Isaac. So sad 😞 The results of Abraham’s sin still felt today 3000 years later.🙏❤️ Abraham lies again about Sarah & nearly causes a whole peoples to fall under condemnation. For all his great faith we still see Abraham as a sinful human prone to fall. God intervenes time & again to lessen the consequences of Abraham’s brokenness. Thanks be to God! He does the same for us.🙏❤️

Happy Easter Theresa 🕊🐰🐇 I miss are old group as we had such a great connection. My brother fell off a latter and he died. His wife has dementia and she has been staying in Chicago with her daughter. She will be down here for two or three weeks and then her son will take her back to Chicago. She thinks she is back to live. It will be a fight to get her to leave. The daughter, husband and 8 of her nine children are here for spring break. We are throwing things in a dumpster and putting things aside for Good Will. I looks like they will keep the house for at least a year. If they sell etc. I will have to move. I injured my left arm as I tripped over the dog pad and landed on a dresser hardware that was shaped like a spear. It went down to and took part of my muscle off. I will always have some ugly scars. I hope you are doing okay. I miss your comments. It is going to be hectic until mid April so I am listening & reading without commenting until I can get back to normal. Please stay safe. I think you can find an old message of mine and comment. I do not know if you can comment on this message that i send to you ❤🙏🙏🙏🥰

@@dianefrank3688 Oh, Diane! I’m so sorry about your brother! Heartfelt condolences on your loss.😞💐🕊️🙏❤️ May God console you in this hour of loss & may the soul of your brother rest in the peace of our Lord.🙏❤️ I, too, lost my next younger brother on March 15. He was the closest sibling in age to me. It was very unexpected. He was only 64. He was in ICU for 8 weeks & we moved him to hospice. He passed away 16 hours or so later. I was able to pray the Divine Mercy chaplet at his bedside for several days. The afternoon we moved him, I was praying the Divine Mercy & had such a complete feeling of peace overcome me. I felt it was our Lady herself wrapping me in her mantle. My brother, too, had the look of peace about him. I prayed he felt it too. Take care of yourself!!! Don’t hurry or rush. Take your time, even if you have to move slower than you want. Accidents at our age can be deadly serious. I’m so sorry you’ve had these injuries on top of losing your brother & now you have to worry about a place to live. That’s heart wrenching.💔Is it possible to live with your son? I’ll be praying for you.🤗🙏❤️

Sorry to offend you, but your salvation is important to me. It's a sin to call Mike "father". Matthew 23:8. Easter is not in the Bible, Passover is in the Bible. Christians honor Jesus resurrection and Passover and Feast of unleavened bread in the same week. Matthew 22:17.Exodus 12. Forced celibacy of priests and nuns, and forced poverty to give up their worldly possessions is not in the Bible. 1Timothy 3:2. Rosaries are forbidden. Matthew 6:7. You are supposed to use Anointing oil not Holy Water. James 5:14 and Exodus 40:9.

What I understood deeply when I first read Job was really conflicting but yet relatable, it was exactly as you said they are words that are deep in the heart but out of fear to the Lord I dare not venture into it. I learnt only now after re-reading it a few times with the help of Bible study in church too to realize God is good and often times what good means in God's way or the ONLY way is not portrayed in a way the flesh or the world views it to be, when I think of the way to be good it is often painless and easy (which is a lie and untrue at all) and it conflicts with the truth of God's goodness which is shown to be a way of difficult challenges, a narrow path, a battle. For God is love and love is good and as you said in the first few days of the Bible reading that love requires sacrifice. Goodness requires sacrifice too. Jesus is the only good man I came to understand why He is truly good too but in a deeper sense than before. Other than the fact He is born from God's spirit through the virgin's womb, His actions and thoughts are holy and good. It is demonstrated all throughout in the Bible, Jesus never harmed people and His goodness was displayed the clearest in His suffering. Humans we are weak and impulsive with our actions and gifts from the Lord, what was created to be good often is used for bad intentions and sinful desires. Jesus faced through every temptation we humans faced too and remained blameless, He did not curse out His enemies or fight back, He surrendered and trust in God's ways even though it is painful for Him, I really learnt that being good is difficult, it requires you to choose in the most tempting moments to hold back your anger and control your emotions and actions. Truly a moment to humble yourself and trust God. And it's very hard because prideful are we humans in moments to surrender and trust, our ego comes up fighting for us to defend that we are more righteous than God when it's farther from the truth. God bless you all brothers and sisters! May God break our hearts of pride and humble us daily to remember we are human and He is God and a good God.

I don't think God "lets" bad things happen to good people, bad things happen to everyone. It's how you handle it. You can still love God and worship him even in the bad times. There are so many more people out there that have it worse than I do, i'm thankful for the gifts he has given me. Even in my darkest days God is rooting for me. He gave us free will, and with that free will some people use it for evil. So God doesn't stop the evil doer if he did then we wouldn't have free will. People get sick, people die, people are injured, God didn't do that. It's part of life, and sometimes it just stinks, but God has greater plans for us beyond this life. This is a drop in the bucket. Have faith, love God, and do what's right and you will reap the rewards in the after life.

I'm no expert or anyone with claims to knowledge or wisdom, but it seems one reason God allows the rains to fall on all of us regardless of our hearts is because of our very natures. If nothing bad ever happened to those who follow God, then surely people would turn to God not out of love for Him or concern for their souls, but because they want to hit the easy button & live a life without hardship. It ties in with what St. Paul wrote in Galatians when he said, "Be not deceived. God is not mocked."

i relate to Job 100%. At one point ive even told God that he doesnt care about me, he has forsaken me, he hates me and that God wanted me to die. I was so close to killing myself even after me relentlessly praying to God to make my pain go away. The moment when i became seriously suicidal thats when my pain slowly begins to fade away, and it started to fade when i suddenly had the urge to write down bible verses in a notebook about pain, suffering, trusting God and such. Months after ive recovered from that incident suddenly this looming darkness started to enter me and my life. It made me feel so lonely and empty inside and i dont understand why. It felt like it snatched all the good things away. I literally described it as me being attacked by demons who wanted me to suffer but thankfully by that time i felt like God was testing me and my faith and so i decided to believe in God's words and trust in God that God wouldnt let the 'demons' torture me if he didnt allow it himself. It can be hard sometimes to live good religious lives, sometimes we want to be extremely faithful but at the same time it feels so tired to be faithful. God never said our lives would be easy but i trust that God wont abandon us in our hard times even if he feels very far away

❤ Day 10 of the Bible in a Year (BIY). I am so blessed that Father Mike reads Genesis 20-21, Job 9-10, and Proverbs 2:6-8 and shows us how we can strive for holiness, even in the midst of sin and suffering.

Quick small example on how God preserved me from sinning. It was a Saturday, at work, and the next day my working program would not allow me to go to Sunday Mass. But it seems like one collegue needed a chance for his shift, and we made both the chance. So i was able to go the next day on Sunday Mass, and after that going to work. Praised be God

I didn’t start listening until recently, and out of all the Bible studies I’ve attended-including three years of Bible College-this is the most applicable, human, God-centered study. Maybe, it’s that I am more ready to hear, because I was quite young in Bible school, but it just feels easier to digest. Thank you again, Fr Mike & Ascension staff. I plan to donate when I can. I hope this series goes far and wide around the world, spreading the Good News of salvation! Praise God!

This really helps that farther Mike is Going Through the Bible with us in a year. Because I cannot read very well I used to be in special education classes I'm about a first-grade reader even though in October I'll be 67. So it's difficult for me to able to read the words don't know what they say. I understand better since father Mike read it for me. I was baptized in the Catholic Church when I was 22 years old I'll be 67 in October as I said so I've been member of the Catholic Church 48 years. And I'm grateful to be a Catholic took me a long time to know what I believe so I took the classes over again what we believe. I did not know there is a difference on sin mortal sins venial sins . I always thought Sin is Sin I didn't know they were different levels of sin of course murder and adultery his mortal sins but the gray areas it could be either one I didn't know when I went to confession I went back 48 years of confession

Thank you Fr Mike for this podcast that is helping me to read the bible. There is so much that is being uncovered. What touched me was Abraham, being the father of faith, yet at times he has fear and fails. I know I have been like that. And we learn from our mistakes. And God takes care of us from sinning as long we are faithful in His ways and teachings.

Job has a way of saying words that make my heart feel for him. 😢
@jac1161

Job has a way of saying those words because of His heart based on his soul's cry, secondary to His faithfulness to the Lord who permits his suffering for the sake of their intimacy. I feel him because I can relate to Him as my life parallels his in the family, work, even "ministries" in the church. I'm pretty sure if Job was psychospiritually assessed, he too would be categorized as a high sensitive intuitive empath type of sanguine choleric temperament. I'm glad you feel for him. Not enough people feel for any one today. Refreshing to read, because my heart is similar.

I really needed to hear this today. Today, I faltered. I fell out of my bible reading plans by 1-2 days due to issues that arose in my personal life. Listening to a similar story happen to Abraham really helped me realize that failure to stay committed to this goal of mine does not cause me to lose sight of my goals nor does it make God see me less. I know He loves me no matter my failures or shortcomings.

Abimelech's correct actions are inspiring. We must stop doing what we are doing as soon as we learn that we are on the wrong path. God allowing Abimelech and us to correct ourselves by warning (sublimely for us) is indeed a grace. The honor of Isaac despite the childhood hardships show how God plans great things for even those who are persecuted and discriminated against. God listening to Hagar's cry shows God's mercy and kindness. Abraham's mistakes even as he follows God are relatable as we all fail and God forgives us as we repent and correct ourselves. Job's questions are also relatable. We also contemplate the exact things that Job is wondering. Why do we exist? What does God want from us? Why do we suffer without a reason... Job is indeed our friend. Let's pray for each other! Thank you and God bless you, Fr. Mike and Team Ascension!

Ezekiel 13:2, beware of priests who teach from their imagination. They don't have the Holy Spirit.

Wow. While listening, I couldn’t believe the things that Job was saying. And I truly can relate to the things he was saying, because I thought them in my mind. We had a horrific tragedy in our lives that we still struggle with, and every day, try to understand why this happened? Father Mike did a great job of explaining how Joe felt like so many of us do at times. It’s OK to feel that way. Although our tragedy is six years old, it’s still feels like yesterday and I still ask why.
