Day 121 | Summiting Katahdin | 2024 Appalachian Trail Thru Hike

Something about a foggy summit is so appealing, and i think gets a bad wrap. The views are amazing on a clear day, sure--but you've had great views the entire trail. The fog and cloud coverage almost makes it seem like nature and the mountains is welcoming you, keeping you focused on the goal of one foot in front of the other, and the coverage is like a blanket keeping this special 'apex' moment just for you. SO proud you've got this far mosey, theres no doubt in my mind you'll finish this amazing adventure strong. You're decision making, ability to asses and stay calm in all situations has improved massively since the beginning of the trail...not that it was poor when you started, but its clear how much your confidence in yourself has skyrocketed! Happy 30th Birthday, congrants on this HUGE moment of your journey! Sending good vibes to on your way South!

It took me 12.5 hrs to do Katahdin on a day hike when I was 68 years old. That was one of the hardest mountains I have hiked. That 5.2 miles is quite misleading as about half of that is bouldering. Fortunately, the weather was great. Congratulations and Happy Birthday. You’ve got this! Enjoy the rest of your hike.
