Spam is a great product to have on hand when power outages are predicted, such as after hurricanes here in Louisiana. I trust what is in it more than what is in any particular brand of hot dog. I have friends from Hawaii that have made some very delicious meals using it. It’s a very popular food there. It can be hard to dislodge from its can. Next time poke a small hole into the bottom of the can using the point of the knife. It’ll slip right out. Ha

I am living my dream watching your journey and being a Californian born and raised individual who still lives in California, I have seen and been to the mountains so many times, there’s 4 mountain ranges in our area, I live by the Santa Ana’s which are the smallest, then San Jacinto where your currently at and across the I-10 is San Gorgonio where Big Bear is, which is currently full of snow and then as you decend hopefully you be able to camp near Lake Silverwood, then the San Gabriel’s where Mount Baldy and Wrigthwood are is on the other side of the I-15. Enjoy the beautiful mountains and the hummingbirds which are migrating should be in full force as the weather warms up😉throughly enjoying the ride🤗

Beautiful scenery today. That snow and ice was a bit sketchy. Those blow downs were rough. They were making my legs and arms hurt and I'm not even there. Guess this hiking vicariously through you is still painful. Your videos are really real, Julianne. Ya'll are doing great. I love that you are a purist. That's one reason I follow you. Ya'll take care. Stay safe. See you tomorrow.

The can that the spam comes in weighs 27.8 grams. As others have pointed out it must be refrigerated within a couple of hours. If others in your group eat spam, have them each carry an unopened can and divide up the contents of the opened one among yourselves in one sitting. Food poisoning is one of the worst things that you can go through and will never forget. It can end your hike, it's not worth the risk IMHO.

I’ve carried slices in baggies for days like she did. No problems yet in quite a few years. Singles are obviously preferable, but seems there’s more than enough salt in it to keep it freshish for a number of days.

Looks like a great day and great whether. I was up there just a few weeks ago. Hiked from PVC to Cedar Springs Trail. Started out with rainy weather, muddy trail, about an inch of snow near Hwy 74 and 35 degree temps. Buy the time I made it to Cedar Spring Trail, it was snowing with about 2 to 3 inches on the ground. Everything was frozen. Temps were easily in the 20's with 30 mph winds. But, it was an awesome day. Safe travels and happy trails on your way to San Jacinto (Hacinto).

Not at all true. 5 days was my max in both ‘17 and ‘19. Gets a little brown day 4 and 5, but still tasted like spam and didn’t kill me. Spam is THE best trail meat. Twice the calories and half the weight of tuna/chicken packets and nowhere near the greasy mess. Spam! Get it!!

@@stone8654 I’ve done it both in hot and cold temps. Did it out of Idylwild just like Dancer when I couldn’t find any singles on my ‘19 trek. Singles are preferable, but not always easy to find. I do insulate any perishable items in plastic bags, kept in the very center of my pack and never let it sit out long.

Under the trees and over the rocks, like your back in PA. 😂 Between the fallen trees and the bushes, you looked like you were off trail, wear the bushes with thorns, I hope not. Remember, your trekking pole can be a Bushwacker .

glad to see you switched to lightweight hiking pants, that probably protected your legs from those bushes you went through. Is the PCT not maintained like the AT, if so those bushes need to be cut back off the trail. That Spam might go bad on you as your pack gets warm with the sun on it, or maybe you started with it chilled and have something insulating it and in the middle of your pack,

I don't remember the bushes being quite so painful on the AT. Guess they have to be tough growing in the high desert. Nice day for it though.
