The plants are called beetleweed or wandplant it still has it fall/winter shade and in the spring they turn glossy green and bloom with little white flowers. They are considered a herb.

Those ground plants are Galax! They’re burgundy in winter and glossy green in summer. They have pretty white blooms that look like candles!

I think you've got what it takes to stand on the sign on Katahdin!! Just remember, in moments of discouragement, and there will be some, if it was a good goal at the beginning, it's still a good goal. Suck it up and keep it up. :) Kanati, AT 08

The communal sleeping is one of the things that I think I would have difficulty with. I absolutely CAN NOT sleep if I hear snoring. Once I hear it I can’t unhear it. I’m not even sure earplugs would help. I would have to hike with a white noise machine 😂

“The Bsrefoot Sisters.” Two sisters that hiked the AT Southbound only to TURN AROUND and do a YO-YO and hike back north again. Hey wrote two books about it that are a excellent read. They hiked approximately 15-20 years ago I’d guess.

I've been told by a barefoot Hiker, it gives a feeling of connection to the environment. Growing up in Hawaii I hiked barefoot often, stopped when I cut my foot on some old rusty concertina barbed wire that was in the mud.

That’s exactly why he does it. Everytime we see a nick sized foot print in the dirt, it makes me smile. He’s always happier than me and I think it has to do with his connection to the earth:)
