Day 16 - Tour de Fleece: Nottingham, Lace Capital and origin of Robin Hood?

Day 16: We went to Nottingham Castle today and were treated to stories of the famous Robin Hood and the most beautiful examples of lace produced by both hand and machine. In this video, I show you some of the highlights of the textile industry in this beautiful city.

Yeah, there's a whole museum dedicated to the lace industry; this was just what they had at the castle. Definitely check it out!

Hi Jennifer, I hope you have all had a lovely day in Nottingham. Its a shame that we've let most of our industries close. We were the Capital of the Industrial Revolution. I've really gotten back to some roots while going through these historic places. It's like talking with a random elderly person who, out of the blue, mentions their vast knowledge and experience with textiles while chatting on passing. It's absolutely awe-inspiring and it connects you in three most indescribable way. I've known a fair amount of the textile history of Leicester, but seeing this all in person at the end of my own academic journey is quite special for me. I'd like to do more. :)

Jennifer, a lovely package full of bats (and silk caps) in my favourite colours was waiting in my mailbox today!! They are even more delicious than they look on your webpage! Once the TdF fibre is off my spindles, I'm going to start playing with them!

Oh dear, I hope things are okay! Spinning by candlelight (or LED) sounds romantic (for about an hour, maybe). Glad to hear you're still going!
