Where we find the SxS to be the better choice: - Tight maneuverability - Faster on the bumpy surfaces - Faster in and out of the vehicle - Burns less gas - Dump bed - Automatic transmission, anyone can drive - In the beginning of our property venture we had no trail system in place. The Jeep would have been very useless in the early few months. Where we find the Jeep to be the better choice: - Stronger. Better for pulling full size trailer - More rain proof, water proof tool storage - Waaaaaaay better windshield, with wipers and washing fluid - More people can ride - Bigger winch and heavier vehicle allows for more creative uses of the winch as a tool, not just for getting un-stuck. - Summer and winter climate control. Neutral for me, huge plus for my wife. - Better parts availability - Will hold value longer Neutral thoughts - top and doors off the Jeep gives the open air feel of the SxS - both can access our entire property via the trail system Email: BPo3Homestead@gmail.com

We’ve 30 acres of forest on a 30 degree slope. Bought 6 years ago. I’ve a 2000 TJ hard top with half doors on 33’s with a winch and adjusted ratios. I’ve owned it since new. When we first bought the property and Jeep was everything. Bull dozer / trail pig / tractor … what ever we needed it did it. Over time we’ve added to the fleet. We’ve now a 50hp Kubota tractor with a bucket. The Jeep saw less work with its arrival. And most recently we’ve gotten a Polaris diesel ranger. The speed of entry and exit makes it a no brainer for easy things around the property. We specifically went with this UTV due to the front bench seat. So our party of 3 are able to comfortable sit up front. These days the Jeep is still used on property. Mostly for towing duties on steep awkward situations. The utv has the power but not the weight to be safe. Having all 3 is certainly a luxury but to your point they are right tool for the right job. As an Aussie looking at the US there is a lot to not like. But F#}{ me $45 rego for a year ? And then nothing for life ? I’m paying nearly $1000 a year for my HEEP ugh.

You won't regret the trade, nice. That spare might be a bit heavy for the standard spare mount.

Welcome to the Jeep Club. I have had my 1997 Jeep TJ Sport for over 15 years. All the same specs as yours except for the Sahara trim package. One suggestion on the winch. Get the synthetic line and remove the cable. Much better option and no worries of getting metal splinters in your hands and they hold less kinetic energy if it was to break. You will LOVE owning a Jeep for the rest of your life.

I have that same color, Jeep Wrangler; I bought it new in Sept. 2000, but it was already a 2001TJ Sport model. This past Sept. it had his 24-year birthday. It has been a great vehicle, I love it.

As a very long time subscriber of your main channel, I'm glad to be number 540 here. As a car salesman at a Jeep dealership, I'd say this is a great fit for you and your family. Jeep Wranglers are the highest value retention vehicles in the country. Not because of the actual quality of the vehicle itself but because of the "Jeep Club" that you have now joined...they are a BELOVED vehicle. I would not be surprised if you have more in the future and it would be an HONOR for me to sell you one some day.

Looks to be the typical 3" lift kit that you have there!! Fun for the non-rock climbing trail riding. 3" lift is capable of rock climbing, but there is more needed for the suspension upgrades, which I'm not sure you have...or need, like upgraded shocks and coils, bump stops, upgraded steering and sway bars....etc. There is an undefined depth to the rabbit hole you can go down to upgrade and modify your Jeep. Probably not your focus at this time...but who knows what the future can or will hold as to your interests, now that you actually own Jeep. Jay Bates Rock Climbing Adventures!! Has a nice ring to it 🤣 😂 😊

A TJ with the 4.0L and a manual is about as bulletproof as it gets mechanically, and that one looks to be in really good shape. With proper maintenance 200-300k miles isn’t unusual for the 4.0. One of the best parts of owning a Wrangler is how versatile they are, almost like a transformer. The amount of aftermarket support is bordering on insane. Fair warning that you’ll have the biggest smile on your face the first time you drive it around with the top and doors off. 😁

I think you're right about the Jeep depreciating less over time than the SxS. Really clean for the age. I'd say you made a great trade! The Sahara (and the mid-trim level) have the I6 engine. The base model has the I4. So, it's more than just visual trim. I think there are also non-visual structural components to make it more off-road capable, but I wouldn't swear to it. I had a similar vintage Cherokee with the I6. From my perspective, that's just underpowered for the Wrangler (and the smaller Cherokee for that matter). I was considering doing a bore/stroke on it to punch it out to 5L. It was supposed to pick up about 100 hp with no change in mileage. Never did it; ended up getting a newer Cherokee w/ a larger V8. For just working around the property, that's probably not something you care about though.

Great motor, I had a 2000 Wrangler sport. Loved it very much. We currently have a 2018 Sahara, totally different vehicles. I personally think the lift is not doing anything for you... It will drive better and be more livable with stock suspension.... Probably require you to get different tires though on top of purchasing normal suspension for it.
@BPo3HomesteadАй бұрын
I've contemplated removing the lift, but we have a few spots on the property where we have to climb out of a deep washout. I lean more towards leaving stuff alone until I have a need for the change. Right now, it works so I'm not touching it. Too many irons in the fire right now, but maybe later.

I live on a 36 acre property mostly pasture some woods. I wanted to buy an old Jeep instead of a sxs however we ended up going with a sxs because we could finance it. The idea being that I could trade it or sell it for a Jeep when it was paid off.

Wow! The registration cost/insight was surprising! In Tasmania 20 year old 4x4 rego is >$600 pa. (Don't convert usd to aud - $100k wages in Oz mean the same as in the US) Crazy, huh! 🤨

As I mentioned in a reply to a comment here, I have a little yellow duck waiting for you to put on that Jeep dashboard. Yep, I learned that "Duck, Duck, Jeep" is a real "thing." A Jeep guy in the Walmart parking lot told me that he has 3 Jeeps and he and his wife traveled to Gatlinburg recently for the Jeep Invasion. He said there were 100,000 Jeeps there. Wow! Enjoy!

Yeah, boy!! And, I am a recent guy to have learned of the "Duck, Duck, Jeep" thing. But, that means I've bought a box of yellow rubber ducks from Amazon. So, as soon as I spy that cool Jeep, I'm giving the Bates family a duck. It's even engraved with "You've been Ducked!" 🙂
