John is the G.O.A.T. and can sing any genre and has magnificent stage presence. Jimmy is our Rock, Soul & Blues King. The guitarist is Johnny Diesel, Jimmys brother-in-law and a fantastic singer/songwriter in his own right. John started in 1964 with bands as a teenager, but his first solo hit was in 1967. He has had a No 1 hit in each of the last 5 decades. He is recovering from mouth cancer and is 75 now. A beautiful man, inside and out. Jimmy and Diesel are still performing. Jimmy has undergone major surgeries since Christmas but will still be performing when he is able. You will have heaps of new Aussie subscribers, if you keep going down these rabbit holes of music. OH man, you ain’t seen nothing yet. John Farnham can sing anything. “how great thou art”with Vanessa and Lindsay is amazing. Also “it’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll”. “Please don’t ask me”with Olivia Newton John from the main event “ help” the Beatles cover with Melbourne symphony orchestra I am in the crowd with my camera, it was after 2 hours of a great concert, he was exhausted but came out with this gem as an encore. An unforgettable, once in a lifetime, experience. He has sung it many times but this was the GOAT ALWAYS play John Farnham live. He has a God given talent. So much joy over many years. Both are top Australian singers. John Farnham can sing in over 20 genres. His gymnastic vocals are incredible. He has had a career spanning five decades with top singles and albums in each one. John is a consummate and charismatic showman with wonderful rapport with his audiences. Always react to John LIVE and in concert. There his soul shines ! PS. Jimmy Barnes was a lead singer in the Australian rock band Cold Chisel from 1973 to 1983, before starting a solo career as well as doing reunion concerts off and on with Cold Chisel; John Farnham is an Australian music icon, starting as Johnny Farnham from 1967 to 1979 as a teen pop idol, before forging a career as an adult contemporary artist and being the only Australian males singer to have had hit albums and singles over five consecutive decades(Cliff Richard is the only International artist to have achieved the same feat).

Nobody features John, they are lucky he is there. No one can out power him but it’s fun watching them try. Richard Marx has so far counted 13 different genres that John sings naturally and named him the best voice alive anywhere. So Barnes was lucky not John and the odd thing is that John is so nice, humble, normal and always kind. He would say he was lucky to sing with many greats. The last time I saw him was singing with Celine Dion who has always said she is his number one fan. Tom Jones came here and did a tour with him because they became great friends. I loved the time and care he gave to Ray Charles when he came. Someone forgot to tell John he is amazing and famous but that wouldn’t change who he is. If there is a drought, flood, any disaster that people need help with. John is at every concert and usually first. One of these two is a gentleman.

Hi there Dr_Kap. 💕I just came to say the same thing….. and for those that are interested, Jimmy sang this a decade earlier in 1982 in Germany with his band Cold Chisel. Chisel has 2 singers, of which Jimmy is the lead, and the other is Ian Moss, who also plays killer guitar…. And although you haven’t mentioned it, but Dr_Kap has Chisel’s version on her channel.

Pronounced FARNUM. H is silent. Both are Aussie legends and the very best. When reacting to John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes, Cold Chisel, they should be live performances as their performances are a show in themselves. This is a Sam and Dave cover. They released it in 1966. Jimmy and Sam, finally a few years ago, did a duet of Soothe Me. Amazing

The term GOAT is thrown around so much, but in the case of Farnsy it couldn’t be more appropriate. It’s with good reason he has been dubbed “The Voice” by Australia. IMHO, he’s also responsible for the greatest rearrangement of a song ever with his cover of The Beatles “Help”, and I include Disturbed’s “Sound of Silence” and Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” in that statement. Both “Help” and “You’re the Voice” live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra are great examples of his impeccable vocals and brilliant stage presence, and are a must see for anyone who considers themself a music fan.

Here's another Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham and Diesel it's a cover of Wilson Picketts In The Midnite Hour and they definitely do it justice! Most music after 2000s has gone to he double 🏒🏒 the kids of today and artists don't know what real music is with the autotune and backing tracks and stuff. Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham are Australia's best 2 singers of all time. As to who is 1 and who is 2 is the question. For me, the only way to decide was to go with who has/had the bigger vocal range. Jimmy has/had a 4 and a half octave range, and John has/had a 3 octave +2 notes range, so I have Jimmy no1 John no2.

HOWEVER, John's vocal ability is far more versatile and adaptable. Jimmy himself, in interview on camera, has hailed John as the BEST singer. There is more to singing than just vocal range.

@barnowl. yes, I know that that is why I said what separates them for me is the vocal range that is the deciding factor for me. As for versatility, both cover multiple genres, so not much to separate them there.
