I had the pleasure to hear and read this passage in Daniel on the Solemnity of Christ the King. Although it wasn't today's reading at the Mass it lends itself to such. The psalmist asks, "Who is the King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle; Who is he, this King of glory? The LORD Almighty- he is the King of glory." He also says lift ye ancient gates. "Who is this king of glory," is our question even today. We know He's Jesus the King of kings. We say of course we know him but Kingdom of God do you know Him. You who should know yet deny Him present in the Eucharist. He is your King but you denounce Him and see His crown of thorns as a failure not the symbol of His perpetual sempiternal crown of glory. You mock Him as the Roman guards ridiculed Him, "King of the [worms]." How can good figs have a communal relationship with our King with the bad figs or tares among wheat? Santify yourselves in the Sacraments. Come home to His Kingdom you of hearts far away merely giving lip service. Give Him the worship He is due in spirit and in truth. Warm your hearts not your pews. Enter His courts with shouts of thanks giving. It made me glad when they said, "Come enter the house of the Lord!"

I’ve heard it said that the 10 horns 10 kings thing was a prophetic reference to the 10 Germanic groups that gradually conquered parts of the Western Roman Empire until it was all gone. They were the Alemanni, Franks, Burgundians, Vandals, Suevi, Visigoths, Saxons, Ostrogoths, Lombards, and the Heruli. The three which were plucked up in the prophecy is a reference to the three that failed to stick around and were ultimately thrown out of the lands they conquered in the Empire. These were the Heruli who were driven from Italy in 493, the Vandals from Africa in 533, and the Ostrogoths also from Italy in 538, with the last one having been driven out by Byzantine General Belisarius who was fighting on behalf of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian.

Words I took away in tonight's BIAY reading was Daniel's faithfulness to God ....... " When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem and he got down upon his knees three times a day and give thanks before his God as he had done previously. Then, these men came by in agreement and found Daniel making petition and supplication before his God.( Let's pause for a moment and meditate on this part.......this verse is worth pondering and imagine this scenario happening during our time.Can you imagine what these men would have done had this happened today, with Cellphones in their hands? After seeing Daniel kneeling down, praying to God of which was forbidden to do according to the Decree King Darius signed, these men would have been taking pictures of Daniel and sending it to King Darius with the caption....." Daniel disobeyed your decree, he must be punished "! There is no doubt these men would have done that, after all, their aim was to put Daniel away out of their jealousy, enviousness and hatred that he excelled and favored more than them. ..." Then, they came near and said before the king concerning the interdict. O King, did you not sign an interdict that any man who makes petition to any God or man within thirty days except to you O king , shall be cast into the den of lions"? ( let's ALL learn from these tattle-tellers, backbiters and betrayers....do not trust any of your opponents! In any competition, losers might pretend to " congratulate " you and say.." i'm happy for you", are more likely be just saying them out of pretense and it can not be trusted. Hate, Envy and Jealousy are an Incurable diseases and it's usually ruling over the person who got lost over you, so never trust your opponents/enemy!).These men are perfect example of how jealousy can make people do evil deeds. Daniel was thrown into the Lion's den, saved by the God he served and in the end, he won by God's heavenly intervention and execution of his Godly power.Daniel's story is one of the MANY Proofs that shows us that he is very REAL and ALIVE. Thank you Father Mike for another night of feeding our soul! We appreciate all your hard work of feeding Jesus lambs and sheep..

So much truth in the book of Proverbs and especially verse five from Proverbs chapter 16. I find Daniel very difficult to understand. Jeremiah sacrifice so much so that he could bring truth to people.
