Hi everyone. A Catholic here. Just did a foretell the future kind of thing today and had many second thoughts about it, my local priest told me he didn't understand what I was talking about when I consulted him about it (he is actually a foreigner so I think that might be the reason why) and then this came up. Now I'm sorry that I did that thing and won't ever do anything like this again. God's timing is unique, which further tells me to trust in His providence.

Missed you, Fr. Mike! Hope you are well! I listened to the podcast on my phone and went on Ascensionpress for the description. For those not aware, in every description of every video there is a quick summary such as this one: "Superstition, idolatry, divination, and magic are all things we can encounter in our daily lives, and, with Fr. Mike, we unpack how they break the First Commandment. Fr. Mike reiterates that superstition represents an “excess of religion” and can affect the worship we offer to God. He points out that we can be superstitious even in our Catholic practices. He also explains that idolatry consists of divinizing anything that is not God. Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 2110-2117." If you look right under the video where it says the number of views and when it was uploaded, there's a "...more". If you click that, you'll see it! Previously there was more written before the description. Hope this is helpful for note takers or helpful for reading before watching/listening! Thanks again! Thank you so much Fr. Mike, Ascension Presents, and everyone here for your spiritual and financial support. Hope you and yours have a light-filled peaceful week!

I will add your son to my prayers and suggest that he talk to a priest who might further explain the danger in messing in these things. When my son was a young teen, he and the neighborhood boys played a game dungeons & dragons. My son bought the hard back books that were quite expensive. I did not know that the game was on the same scale as the Ouija board. As soon as I found out, I discussed this with my son and the other boys. We got rid of the books and sprinkled the room that they played in with holy water. Even though my son did not know about this, he went to confession and talked it over with the priest. I will pray that your son will listen to you and come away from this evil. ❤🙏🙏🙏

I found this song; it matches to Romans 7: that St Paul said in his humanity; even as an apostle; he struggled; and said: when I would - would not. This song's first verse; simulates what St Paul said. Next chapter - 8; therefore, there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. Just do stay away from the works of Darkness; -as explained here. Song: Always have - always will. By Avalon kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIDNiqCCrdmenLMsi=Q0NtFISBGKLsgSHp&t=1

I recently took a short trip to New Orleans, and went on a guided walking tour of the French Quarter. I was SHOCKED at all the stores, museums that catered to the occult. I said the St. Michael prayer of exorcism in my head as I walked through the streets. I couldn’t wait to leave.
@MrDarshD Жыл бұрын
I like how these three aspects are explored fully here. The prohibition of idolatry is not about opposing other religions but to not participating in them even though interacting with the humans that practice them. The human made idols and then the things like money, fame, person, etc. Keep us stuck in the world and provide us with false hope. They often lead to dangerous situations like debt, relationship issues, crimes, psychological issues, acedia, and more. If we are not moving towards salvation, we will be stagnating or even going in the reverse direction. This analysis is also evidence that Catholicism doesn’t support superstition such as making the sign of the cross and connecting it with good or bad luck. The Bible has said that "Don't look for signs". We are meant to just work, pray and believe in God without getting distracted by superstition, idolatry, and divination. The benefits are none but the risks are many. May God help us to fight temptations and fears that lead us to such things. I'm praying for you, Fr. Mike and Team Ascension. I'm praying for my fellow listeners as well. Take care and God bless

I searched up Father Mike talks on dreams to help ease my mind and found, a brief one 7 years ago on veils at Church and dreams. Thanks Fr. Mike , greatly appreciate the explanations. Quick question regarding "charms": How are sacramental objects, e.g. The Brown Scapular, different from charms? This just struck me as odd?
@lumpichu Жыл бұрын
If you would attribute to them powers, then, for you, they are the same as charms. If treated properly, they are holy and completely different. The Church has this figured out, we need to trust the teaching of the Church :) It was in the Catechism. They "work" by relying on God's grace through the intercession of the Church and us being properly disposed to it (i.e. the priest prayed to God over the blessed crucifix and you wear it with love of God and trust God's goodness and promises)
@pam7533 Жыл бұрын

October 3, 2023 Please pray with me. According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory: Eternal Father, I offer You the most precious blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, for those in my own home, and in my family. Amen. In her account of another vision, St. Faustina describes Purgatory as a "great crowd of suffering souls" undergoing purification. Further, she says that the souls are "praying fervently, but to no avail, for themselves; only we can come to their aid" (Diary, 20) Father I need your grace again because I am not the witness I want to be.

Regarding praying to Saints it's nothing against the 1st commandment, we pray for their intercession, not for their own powers. At least, that's how you should do it :) And regarding the desired outcome, we need to avoid insisting on our will, we need to pray like Jesus, "if you are willing, xxxxx. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours be done."

The commandment "You shall not have other gods before me" forbids polytheism, idolatry, and superstition. Polytheism and idolatry divinises creatures, power, money, or even demons. *Idolatry is not merely statues,etc which Catholics get accused of but read Ephesians 5:3-6* 3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. 5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person-such a person is an idolater-has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.[a] 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.

I am wondering if it is wrong to follow some (or most) seers that claim Jesus, Mary, or some other heavenly figures give them predictions of the future. Right now, there are several people who claim to have these visions and say the tribulation is about to start and don't travel too far from home safe houses for believers etc. I have always loved Fatima, have grown to appreciate Akita and other approved apparitions. I don't necessarily disbelieve some of these other people who say Jesus (or Mary, St. Michael, etc.) are giving them this information but am very cautious about them. Does these fall into the area of divination? Also, I have a huge devotion for the rosary, blessed psalms, holy water, and other sacramentals, is this treating these sacramentals like charms?
@mollyjv1 Жыл бұрын
I personally think many of those people wrong, most of those predictions never came true! There’s a cult and I know some of them personally. They take away the trust in the Lord and fill people with anxiety and fear for future.

Is doing yoga poses okay? Because it works at getting my Holy Spirit in balance better than praying.

We commit idolatry whenever we honor and revere a creature in place of God. We also have to avoid all forms of divination and magic because they are evil. We must rather put ourselves into the hands of our Creator and be prudent in caring for ourselves by avoiding unhealthy curiosity about the future. Even good luck charms and spiritism are to be avoided. In short, don't give a power to something that belongs only to God, to something that is not god.

Thank you Fr. Mike, loved your "littlestitious" joke. But what about people who have healing hands? The use of Reike and myofacial release therapy? They don't call upon evil spirits. Are those allowed?

Yes, any kind of Energy Medicine is a cult and even Yoga. These are alk new age practices and we must dlscern them.

Don't know anything about myofacial release therapy, but Reiki is absolutely forbidden. It's exactly one of the cases Fr. Mike spoke about, they want a power reserved to God, but not by calling to God. Explicit calling to evil spirits is of course even worse but this is totally evil too and apart from being forbidden, it also relies on power of the spirits not from God (i.e. evil. There are no neutral spirits).

I was told that Rieke and some yoga practices do call on other forces or powers and we Catholics were not to participate in them.

Reiki is not allowed. You are opening up to “spiritual energy” I don’t know what myofacial release therapy is? These are not the same as a charism of healing, which is a gift of the Holy Spirit.

Reiki is another form of divination and must be avoided. I did do my level one Reiki training completely oblivious to what I was opening myself up to. But I renounced it all and threw away all literature I had on it. The devil can and does appear as an Angel if light and people can and do receive healing through Reiki but it will be at a terrible cost. Look up people who have tried to stop practising Reiki after many years and what happens to them it's really scary. But turning back to God will crush the enemy. Myofascial release Myo is Latin for muscle fascia is what the muscle is wrapped in. It's a a type of massage for releasing tight or unbalanced muscles it's a treatment and not evil. I'm a clinical massage therapist and use it to help clients in pain🙏🙏

Is controversial to count the Earth among the things out of which people commonly make into idols.
