I am having to study up on my World History as we go through this most interesting Book of 1 Maccabees. I’ve lost a lot of information since 1966-67. But it’s very exciting studying names that are familiar. I’m still not sure why God put this BIAY study on my heart but it is bringing me a much needed peace-filled year. Prayers offered for all who have/are/ will take this beautiful journey.

Yes it is wise to guard our hearts and minds, the last few years I have changed my viewing and reading habits, mainstream t.v. is just full of swearing comedians, programmes about murder, or sex in any shape or form. Give me an uplifting nature documentary or Fraser (no swearing just clever comedy) any time. The whole woke movement is also ridiculous, hands up who wants to escape to a dessert island ? see you there !

October 26, 2023 Round Two Will you please take a moment and pray with me? According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory: Eternal Father, I offer You the most precious blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, for those in my own home, and in my family. Amen. In her account of another vision, St. Faustina describes Purgatory as a "great crowd of suffering souls" undergoing purification. Further, she says that the souls are "praying fervently, but to no avail, for themselves; only we can come to their aid" (Diary, 20)

Fr. Mike, I missed asking this when we read Micha, but when we get to Luke, I wonder if you would mention Migdal Edar, the Tower of the Flock at Bethlehem, where some say Christ was born (not in a stable as is commonly told). This would have also been in the birthplace of lambs which had been sacrificed on the temple altar to . It would have been kept spotlessly clean, and cloths for swaddling the lambs would have been there already. The shepherds who witnessed Christ's birth were used to performing their priesthood duty there, and would have understood that the lambs in their care had prefigured Him. The Old Testament reference is Micah 4:8... "and you, O tower of the flock, hill of daughter of Zion! To you it shall come: the former dominion shall be restored, the reign of daughter Jerusalem." I'm hoping Fr. Mike will see this message before we get to Luke, to perhaps share this additional insight into Christ's birth. I was so grateful to learn this and believe others would be too. Thank you Fr. Mike, God Bless you as you lead us on this journey! It has been amazing.

Sirach tickles me to bits, there is a lot of truth to be found here, these days there would be protests and flag waving should any of this advice be dispensed now. I have just broken it down into useful advice with possibly a pantomime feel (think pantomimes may be peculiar to us Brits ) My Son some ground rules in finding the woman of your dreams. 1) Time to seek out a worthy wife, quiet and compliant for a peaceful life, and bonus you will double your life span if you choose wisely. 2) When trying to get a young lady's attention, don't lob a stone towards her window space, lest it plummets on your bonce. 3) Tea total is a must, inspect her eyelids, any sign of make up is asking for trouble. If she looks as if she might have an interest in archery, back off. If you are thirsty and fancy a pint, and she is loitering under a lamp post nearby, run away!🏃‍♂🚫 4) Make sure she knows how to rustle up a meal, don't get distracted by her trifle making, until you are married, make sure she knows her way around a sieve🍧 5) Intelligence is always desirable, and if she laughs like a drain she will just be an embarrassment.🤣 6) Don't sow your oats with the first lady that catches your eye, make sure she doesn't spit, and finally, find one who has beautiful feet. 👣😁🙃
