After 32 days of clearing the land by hand on our one acre homestead in Ireland, this video "The Final Day: Our 14 Day Homestead Clearance Comes To An End" explains why the time has come to reduce our videos from seven days a week to three days a week: Monday, Wednesday & Friday.
On the homestead today, we prepare the area between the 200 year old dry stone wall and the conker tree ready to begin making the "dead hedge". We have spoken about the "dead hedge" for quite a while now so the time has come to make a start. The "dead hedge" will be made up of willow tree, apple tree and plum tree as well as some freshly cut blackcurrents. We also dig up and expose the old mystery farm machine from day 27, can you help us again? Lastly we take a walk around the one acre homestead to show what we have been doing for 32 days.
Being beginners to homesteading, we really are the perfect "Homestead for beginners" example. We are doing things they way we think they should be done and learning along the way with your help and with the help of others on KZbin. Land drainage, tree felling, fruit trees etc and so on. But what an adventure we are on.
The 100 year old derelict farmhouse renovation also continues and we will be filming both as we work through 2024. There is so much more to be done and that is before the introduction of growing our own food for sustainable living to having animals on our homestead in Ireland.
There is something for everyone, if you subscribed for the renovations or for the homestead, we will bring the smiles, you sit back and relax and let us do the work.... well, Dawn will do the work.
Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more homesteading and house renovation adventures!

Actually the L stands for Linda. My mother couldn't find a middle name that went with Diane. I have many scary stories about chain saws and my husband, but will refrain from sharing them with you. Also, I am a bit jealous of all the lovely leaf mold you have lining your ditch. I would be down there digging it up and transporting it to a future garden, and flower beds. I look forward to all the amazing things you have planned--God Bless you both!

Diane it is. So firstly, thank you so much for being our latest channel member Diane. Yes, the chainsaw will be treated with extreme care. It is safest in the box it came in hahaha. Digging the ditch will be a huge can of worms to open at the moment. There will certainly be lots of good flower bed material in there though. Thank you, and thank you again :-) Hope you have a nice day ahead.

The MWF video schedule sounds like a good balance between up-to-the-minute vlogging and the need to be a human being living a human life. What you have done on the land is astounding, & I can hardly wait to see the trees rewarding you with even more astounding flowers and fruit. See you Friday!

The MWF schedule - I love it Evelyn :-) We think it will be a good balance too. Maybe we can slip in a fourth now and then as a bonus. We can't wait for the trees to start to become green. We just need to move the logs and branches and then we can begin to mow everywhere to try and promote grass growth and slowly kill off the brambles and ivy. We will indeed, see you Friday. Thank you Evelyn :-)

My husband said that is part of a mowing machine, and maybe horse drawn because of the gears. The sickle bar is gone, and it moved with the wheels. The pitman stick is not there. You might look up Deering mowing machine. He is from a line of farmers here in the US and some of the equipment he was around growing up was really old. He immediately knew it was a mowing machine; he is guessing if horse drawn or not. Hope this helps.

Hi Bobbie, well his information ties in with Denis Peel, further down in the comments. Now we "think" we still have the sickle, it was in an outbuilding last year, but because of it's huge teeth, it may have gone too. We will try and find it the next time we go through all of Dawn's "Treasures". We are hoping we can find a photo of that model, just because it will be nice more than any other reason, to know exactly how it was. We are guessing horse drawn too, but in all honesty, what do we know about all this stuff? We are loving find it all. Thank you as always Bobbie :-)

At any rate it was made by IH (International Harvester), formed in a merger of Deering, McCormick and a few others in 1902. The mix of IH and Deering logos seems to suggest a build date soon after that merger.

What an accomplishment getting that all initially cleared to have it ready for the season- cannot wait for Bird watch, or updates as you can! We will start with three and see where it leads. I am sure we can have another daily run for a while, just not 31 days straight. We are really pleased. Out there today, no rain, a little bit of sun trying and it was just nice. No rush to get the job in hand done, but there is tomorrow. Ooh a stove manufacturer would be great wouldn't it. You two have done amazing with the dailies! You can be assured, I’ll be here for the three days a week, and if there is a surprise video inserted once in a while, well that will be icing on the cake. Most KZbinrs only do vlogmass on a daily basis. I much more enjoyed your garden videos. I was saying to myself that one is a crab apple, and there was Dawn reading my mind. Crab apples were everywhere here when I was a kid. There were used to make cider in Maryland, once upon a time. I’m not sure what species of apple they use now, but cideries are growing again in popularity. We actually have one less than a mile from our home, which is lovely.

Well I did wonder if we will be able to drop in a special from time to time, not sure but we will see as I do like a bit of icing on the cake too. We have only been told they are crab apples, but we will see what we have, So are you saying I need to learn how to make cider? I am sure that is what I am hearing :-) When I was little, and it is still there today, there is a public house called "The Monkey House", actually called The Cider House, and they sell cider. Dad used to take me. It is a 17th century place. Anyway... some of the cider was like vinegar. That is pretty much all I remember. pubheritage.camra.org.uk/pubs/191 See you Friday Dory, and thank you :-)

Budget seeds a co uk company - think you can work out the web address if you pop them words together and add a couple of dots. Seed from 15p - can't go wrong at that price and usually delivery is cost of a stamp. I have used them for a couple of years now and their seed is as good as the others. Now is the perfect time to get going and it will stop the area getting overgrown again. See you Friday

Thanks Tracy for the company, we have had a look and they only ship the Northern Ireland which would then mean driving a couple of hours or paying for delivery from up there. They are very cheap though, hopefully someone in the UK will see your comment and get theirselves a bargain. Hi guys its me again! I wasn't expecting to see that name on the mower, not sure how unusual it is but I have not seen one before here (and I've seen quite a few). It is an International Harvester Deering mower, an very well known American Company who still exist. (from wiki 😀) It was formed from the 1902 merger of McCormick Harvesting Machine Company and Deering Harvester Company and three smaller manufacturers: Milwaukee; Plano; and Warder, Bushnell, and Glessner (manufacturers of Champion brand). Its brands included McCormick, Deering, and later McCormick-Deering, as well as International. Along with the Farmall and Cub Cadet tractors, International was also known for the Scout and Travelall vehicle nameplates. They sold agricultural products under the McCormick-Deering name between 1922 and 1947 so your machine falls some where in between those dates, but were producing things that went bang 39-45 so probably before that! The thing you thought was a gear pattern is the monogram of I and H the logo of International Harvester. They were designed to be horse drawn but lots were converted to be tractor drawn, sometimes the speed of the tractor did not agree with the cast iron parts hence being thrown in a hedge. You guys have done an amazing job, just keep on top of it, little and often! Denis

Daily videos are nice but time consuming for you. You need down time.❤

Oh we do and it has been lovely to get a bit of normality back again, but having said that we really did enjoy doing the daily videos, it was fun getting to speak to you all everyday 😊❤️

So your desserting to do a duo comedy hour. Well planned that was worked beautifully. And your cutting us down to 3 days a week. I suppose that gives me more time in mine ROFLMAO. i MEAN, GUYS you have really no idea, do you? How entertaining you are with you digging, nd shovelin', and your spadin' and the natterin' of plans that could go ahead but might not. Oh my, I've got withdrawals just thinkin' about it. now I need a cuppa. Awww that's betta. So Sundie is me day off. Mondie is me comedy couple, who knows nothin'. Tuesdie Day of our lives. Wensdie, is the duo in the corner reno. Thursdie is coronation street lane. An' Fridie is a duo in nowhere land making all their nowhere plans. And we love it But I can see my algorowryhme will go. Hey!! its Saturdie time to binge watch all 3 Monday, Wednesday and Friday on the Saturday. Bc days finished in 22 and coranation 11 lololol I had to google that .

Hahaha well it won’t be long as we will back on your normal itinerary of telly watching! We do sort of have an idea of where we are going next but nothing set in stone…we like to keep it interesting! 🤣

Well I am quite appreciative of any videos you wish to share with us. I really do not know the amount of work that goes into making these videos (as I have never made any) but I'm sure it must be a lot. So whatever suits your time and life schedule is fine by me.
