Happy Birthday Dawn!! 🥳🎂🎈 Your house looks so pretty with all the lights. Hope you are all feeling better soon, these colds are so hard to get rid of, I've had a cough for almost two weeks now, very annoying!! Your cats are so funny and playful, love watching them. Hope you've had a better week!! Can't believe I'm all caught up!! 😍

Great save with your batteries! I have quite a few decorations that are battery operated, going to look into getting some of these. I have two Smart Plugs and plug my tree and lights around my house to them, have them programed so they automatically come on at dusk and go off at 11:15 pm. such a time saver!! Hope you are all feeling better! On to my last video!! Yay!! Not bad for 5 days and 158 videos!!

Dawn sorry you had such a rough week! I also love candles and candle melts, can you share with us where you get your supplies? That Vanilla, Patchouli and Sandalwood sounds devine! Great job on the fireplace, it's looking so good!! You remind me of my dad, he was a handy man and tried to everything himself and in turn taught my sister and myself how to do things ourselves. Grateful I had such a great dad like you did.

I needed to see this. I'm currently in the middle of purchasing a derelict property in Ireland. I was on the verge of pulling out as I could see so many issues which were clouding my judgement as to the potential of the property and the reason I am doing it in the first place. Thank you for reminding me that with hard work and the right attitude, we are all capable. You just need the vision and motivation. Look forward to seeing the continued progress. 👍🏼👍🏼

So happy you've decided to keep the original fireplace surround! I didn't realize it was wood, thought it was terrazzo stone. Love the wood, I would use a clear coat of stain over the wood, it will make the corbels stand out nicely. Love how the vent hood came out, it looks pretty as it is, love the silver color! Dawn the wall is beautiful, you've done a magnificent job!! On to the next video!! 🥰

rasberrysbushes need a little different care: you only cut the branches from last year and leave the ones that were growing this year be for next year, rasberrys are only growing on the 2 year old branches. at least that is what i lerned xD i wish you luck in your journey

@@thecornerhouseproject yeah, the woody ones are the one that you need to cut, the 'green' ones are the ones who will grow the berrys next year, if you cut everything back you will still get some rasberrys, but they will be small und there will not be much.

A great idea but sadly is isn't our gutter to be able to make alterations to really. I am sure I could speak to the farmer and he would be OK with it, but at the end of the day it isn't his problem if we get water or not. We are lucky he lets us use the down pipe as it is. Again though, a good suggestion and would work well. Thanks for always watching and commenting Peter.

So do farm buildings with animal feed Gerry. Even without the bird feeders up from last winter, the cats were still catching and killing rats. The feeders may draw them closer to the house but we hope three cats will do the trick. Worst case we take the feeders down again.

Thanks very much Joe. When I was up there the other day I wondered about a simple pvc gutter lay inside the metal one. Only massive downpours would then over flow, but that happens anyway. Would it be an idea to put insulation around the 3 x water tanks? Otherwise, the water will freeze in there and freeze the pipes from the inside, I'd imagine?
@thecornerhouseproject
@thecornerhouseproject 12 сағат бұрын
Hi Darren. Last winter it was only the surface of the water in the tanks that froze and then the pipes. Hopefully the trace wire, which goes right up to the tap of the tank will be warm enough to keep the tap clear. We will see though. Insulating the tanks will be next on the list though if they freeze too much. Thanks for commenting :-)

Love the door! I think the archway looks out of place, it doesn’t showcase the rectangular door as nicely. There are no other arched bits on the front of the house to make it cohesive.
@thecornerhouseproject
@thecornerhouseproject 11 сағат бұрын
It’s a beauty isn’t it? We think that originally there probably wasn’t an arch but when the house had a cement render put on it the arch may have been incorporated then. We have plans for next year to remove all the render so we should find out what was originally there. We rather suspect that the front door used to be flush to the front of the house rather than having the small porch way it has now.

Would something like cardboard inside bin bags keep frost away longer if placed under pipes on ground. I remember way back in the 1970s my dad wrapping pipes to pump for our water well in all sorts of things in desperation old coats and a red heat lamp he later used for chickens after they hatched. I understand different set up as you are outside and not in a shed . Also might be good idea to ask farmer beside you if he has a well how deep b4 they hit water for well that g8ve you a clue where water table is . I live in cavan and we had to drill deep and cost 5000 in 2005 . Was OK for 10 years but we had lime issue and needed new well cost about 5000 again. I recall lime dust everywhere on drilling of second well . We avoided hooking g up to scheme water which was new to area as didn't think water quality would be great . People who do wells tend to know water table depths in most townlands in Ireland. Belated happy birthday to Dawn the cake looked yummy

Hi Dizzy, thanks for watching and commenting. I can see how cardboard on the floor would work. Last year, (maybe early this year) the black pipe was lay on the ground and did freeze, I am hoping, apart from the heating wire, that being off the ground will also help with preventing freezing. With the two changes this winter we hope for running water each morning. The cottage just up the road has a well which will drilled way back when. I can't remember how deep they went, not very I don't think. I think the water table it fairly high here, which will be nice if it is, as it will keep the cost of drilling down should a well ever be on the cards. Mains water is only 375m down the road, but Irish water won't connect us and there is no water scheme as there is only 2 dwellings. One way or another, we will either sort a well or get on top of the rain water harvesting. Sadly it is all money :-( Dawn said thanks for the birthday wishes. Oh the cake really was lovely. Thanks so much for watching and commenting :-)

Happy Birthday Dawn! That was a lovely cake that Lucas made for you! So nice that you have the bird feeders up again, being able to watch the birds in the winter is very relaxing. I hope you are all over that cold soon, I hate it when they drag on. I like Christmas, I just don't like all the fuss, decorating and then undecorating lol. I'm going to cheat this year as I don't have the energy to do "all the stuff" and for the most part it will be just me and Mum on Christmas Day with a few people popping in, besides, we are fat enough and don't need all the calories that come with all the treats. I will get some mince tarts and such but I'm thinking more for New Years Eve. I did a temporary fix on a gutter once using mactac (stick on vinyl that comes in rolls). There is Tape now that is sold for fixing holes in gutters etc. (Gorilla Waterproof Patch & Seal Tape instantly seals out water, air and moisture. With an extra thick adhesive layer and UV resistant backing this tape conforms to form a permanent bond indoors and out. At 4" wide use it to patch holes, cracks, gaps and tears, even underwater.) Have a great week! See you next Sunday!

Hi Janie, how are you both doing? Dawn said thanks so much for the birthday wishes. The cake really was lovely and now all gone.... fancy that hahaha. It is lovely with the feeders back up. We can watch the birds again and when we open the back door they all scatter before realising it is just us and they fly back into the tree. The colds are much much better, we both feel really well today thank you. You are allowed extra calories at Christmas, it is what keeps you going throughout winter hahaha. Our Christmas chocolates are open already, so they will need restocking very soon and the mine pies are already a couple of packets less in the cupboard haha. Dawn has done the shopping list and we will be collecting it Sunday instead of our normal Friday. The picking people aren't always the best at getting long dates on food. Today or tomorrow I will be using some really sticky duct tape on the outside of the gutter as a second attempt on a dry day has made not different. Failing this, we think it will be some pvc gutter in the metal one. It rained a bit last night and we got zero drops in the tank again. It bothers my brain when we don't get any water, one of the things I feel I have to sort for the family. That and heat were my concerns and water is still a big concern. We will get there. Thank you as always Janie for joining us and always coming up with good ideas and things you have done in the past :-) Love to you both xx
